About This Listing
My one bedroom Chinese walk up is a real home. It is quiet, but walk 5 minutes in any direction and you are in the middle of all that Hong Kong has to offer. Bars, restaurants, gym, yoga, and hiking trails. The beach - 15min taxi ride!
Flat is located in a chinese walk-up. It's on the 3rd floor- quick walk. It is in the heart of Central Hong Kong. The street is not a through street, so it is very quiet and there is a beautiful view of the central skyline. It is kind of a green street for Hong Kong.
The flat is 500-square feet. There are two bedrooms, the second is used as an office. There is wifi and all cable. The bathroom has a full size shower, being an old walk-up it has a small water heater. This means quick showers in December/January but the rest of the year it is fine. Kitchen is small but you can easily cook a meal. There is a french press for cofffee. Double bed in bedroom- the mattress is firm but there is a feather bed if you prefer a softer sleep - and the sofa is comfortable, too!
The flat is in the heart of central. It is on several bus-lines. There is a five-minute walk to central MTR station. I am in the popular SOHO district so there are dozens of restaurants and shops right outside the door. You can be right in the middle of it all, or stay in and enjoy a peaceful night. The building is very quiet. I am a block away from grocery, laundry, atm, starbucks. I am also 10-minutes away from gorgeous hiking trails.
My flat is:
35 minutes from Disneyland
30 minutes from the airport
20 minutes from Ocean Park
15 minutes from the Wan Chai Exhibition Center
15 minutes from Tsim Sha Tsui
5 minutes from the Macau Ferry
5 minutes from the IFC (International Finance Center)
Guest will have a top closet in the office, access to cable, wifi, anything in the kitchen.
Interaction with Guests
Most of the time I am traveling. I have a helper who can help out if needed.
I love my street. It is one of the few in Central that does not have through traffic. I have a clear, open view of the HK skyline. My flat is in the middle of everything but so quiet. It is quirky - it is called a tong la - old Chinese walk-up. Old Chinese flats don't have ovens (I have a mini oven) so I don't prepare lavish meals. But I have lived here for 8-years, so it works for me!
Cabs, busses, MTR are easily accessible from my flat.
I think it is pretty straight forward. Please leave things as you find them. You are welcome to use the stereo/dvd player (movies in the far left cabinet). My one hard and fast rule is please no smoking. No cats!!
Very nice flat, fantastic location. I stayed for 4 weeks. For a longer stay they bathroom and kitchen being a little dated was my only small issue but for Short stay this shouldn't worry anyone. Also great value and shelle was very friendly and helpful if I needed her.
Had a great stay in Shelle's apartment. Incredible location and great value for money.
We stayed at Shelle's place after a long overnight flight from New York. She was out of town, so we had to let ourselves in, which proved a bit challenging. Our taxi driver couldn't find the place, despite Shelle's detailed instructions. When we finally got inside, we crashed -- hard. The neighborhood is quiet and the apartment has good ambience. We made good use of Shelle's extra power converters and guide books. There were a few downsides however: the bed was really firm, the hot water tank was small, and the stress of finding the apartment ruined the experience a bit. Otherwise it was a pleasant stay. Great location. Fabulous size for HK. Good value.
The reservation was canceled 7 days before arrival. This is an automated posting.
My work trip was cancelled last minute, which meant I would be in town. I
felt terrible about leaving Derek and his friend in a pinch. So I contacted
a friend who is on Airbnb. Her place is nearby, it's about the same price
and it was available! I give Derek the link and he contacted Sarah. I was
relieved that everything worked out for everyone!
This being the second time I have rented Shelle's flat, my experience was the same. Perfect. Her and her place is of great value and its location is hard to beat. I can only hope to rent her place each and every time I visit HK.
Shelle's place is fantastic !
You should stay here !
It's such an ideal location - right near the midlevel escalators, and only a short walk to Central, Sheung Wan, the MTR and buses. It's also perfect for getting to the ferry wharf quickly. On arrivaI I wheeled my 20kg bag all the way from the airport via the undercover walkways and the midlevels escalator, almost all they way up to her street! Of course taxis are also plentiful in Hong Kong, and the drivers all seemed to know how to get to the address easily.
There are also a lot of options for eating and drinking - Shelley street is just around the corner, along with Soho and Lan Kwai Fong. If you want to enjoy funky restaurants then they are just outside the door!
The neighbourhood is probably the coolest in Hong Kong, with galleries, boutiques, cafes and antique stores dotted all around. Perfect for strolling around.
The apartment itself is quite big for Hong Kong standards, with an ample living room and spare room - all very tastefully decorated. The Air Con was very functional, the fridge was great, and the windows are big with good circulation. The bathroom and shower are a good size (not to be taken for granted in Hong Kong!), and the bed was very comfy. The TV service was great, just what I needed to relax after a hard day of exploring.
The view from the windows is superb! You can see the bright lights of Central. And even though Hong Kong is a very busy city, her street was so quiet and peaceful after dark. Such a relief after a long journey to be able to get a good nights sleep :)
Shelle is a great communicator, and all the instructions were clear. It was really easy to get in, and easy to find my way around the apartment. Overall, Shelle's apartment has a great vibe, it's a relaxed, welcoming home.
I am definitely glad that I chose to stay here, and would thoroughly recommend the apartment ;-)
About the Host, Shelle
I am a yoga and journalism teacher and have lived in Hong Kong for 11-years, 8-years at this place. My flat is in an amazing location! It is super convenient; 2 minute walk to gym, yoga, the coolest bars and restaurants in Hong kong. It is in an old chinese walk-up in central district. It is close to everything! I really live here, it isn't an IKEA flat for the sole purpose of AIRBNB rentals! I hope you love it as much as I do!
