Sunny, cozy with a large touch of quirky and off the beaten path, this old farmhouse is a perfect place to explore all that the real Maine has to offer. Set on an acre outside of town, there is plenty of open out door space, fire pit and BBQ.

The space

1200 sq. ft. almost renovated farmhouse in the country suburbs sits on 1.5 acres, close to downtown Lewiston/Auburn (3 miles), and a hop skip and a jump to Portland (35 min), Freeport (25 min) , Brunswick (20 min) and western Maine. Ideal for visitors to Bates College, CMMC, or St. Mary's. Nestled between Durham and New Gloucester, easy access to the turnpike or Rt. 136 (river road) to 295, or you can also toodle along country roads.

The house has three bedrooms: a master bedroom with adjacent bathroom, guest room that sleeps two, and a futon available for a third room that I use as a studio. One very comfy couch and I can round up some air beds for those happy to sleep wherever. Or if you're adventurous pitch a tent in the yard.

The house is an artist's work in progress rebuilt with green / recycled materials and a passive solar heating design. I try to leave a small carbon footprint and have home made or eco friendly products, recycle and compost like crazy.

The house is is not 100% complete - only one bathroom (no shower) and as you will from the photos all the inside details are not done yet. However, it is quiet, cozy and full of beautiful natural light.

If there are a group of people, you have to be okay with sharing - the downstairs is an open plan, and the only bathroom is in the master bedroom. There is no shower but you can have a luxurious candle lit soak in the claw foot tub with bath salts and an array of essential oils to choose from.

Sleeps 4-6 comfortably. It's perfectly located to explore the lakes, State parks and farms that are Maine's best kept secrets. It's about an hour drive from Sunday River for the ski enthusiasts.

Linens, full on kitchen, picnic + beach blanket provided. I'm often making things so there is usually a home cooked meal or bread waiting for your arrival. I encourage you to help yourself to whatever is in the fridge or pantry.

The house is filled with an eclectic collection of contemporary art, a record collection, film cameras to play with, at least one working super 8 projector, and of course WIFI. I have a few yard games, board games, as well as a pack and play, some toys and books for the young ones. Clothes washer and sunshine / rack dryer.

Two day minimum, but I'm flexible especially in the off season. Dogs are welcome, but please add them as an additional guest when booking.

I'm happy to help in anyway I can and if I'm in town be available when needed. I've lived in Maine for over 20 years and can recommend places to see and help plan day trips. My specialties are art, food and thrift stores.

Guest access

Basic cooking essentials like olive oil, baking supplies, herbs, condiments, and of course Maine honey + maple syrup are available.

Tanja is wonderful! The space was perfect for winding down. Loved her binder of suggestions for the area (including the thrifting!) the fire pit was an added benefit bonus because the moon lit up the whole back yard!

Comfortable and relaxing we enjoyed our stay. Tanja was great when it came to communicating and information about the property. The area restaurants were a bonus. We had a great walk finding and checking out each option. We choose Rails and had an excellent experience.

Cute little Cottage, close to beautiful Range state park. Lots of decorations and tchotchkes, may not be the best choice for those with toddlers; infants or older children may be easier. Tanja was a great host, thoughtful and available if needed. Quiet peaceful property. Bring tick spray.

This was our second time staying at Tanja's house and we loved it just as much as last time. Definitely recommended for those looking to have a quiet getaway not far from attractions around the area.

Tanja was a wonderful host. She communicated well prior to the trip and answered our inquiries via text quickly as well. We loved the tub and the wonderful array of essential oils and epsom salt at our disposal as well. Tanja's home also has a variety of artwork throughout that adds to the eclectic ambiance of a retreat away from home.

I'm a fine art photographer based in Maine. I love all things local, especially art, food, thrift stores and dive bars. I also enjoy hitting the road - and am currently working on a project called Are you really my friend? I am photographing all of my friends in their homes all over the world. I have stayed with more 200 friends on this adventure, so I understand what it takes to make guests feel "at home".
