With the best view in Ubud, Asmara at the Harmony retreat means "Romance" in the local language and this stunning villa is the perfect love nest for a honeymoon or singles or couples seeking absolute privacy and beauty. Villa Asmara has a huge private deck and meditation garden right on the edge of the rice fields and both sunrise and mountain views to the north as well as a panoramic vista of the terraces to the north and west. A tastefully furnished open plan living room with fully retractable doors and a full kitchen allows for indoor/outdoor living and the spacious master bedroom is designed for intimacy and privacy with its canopied oversized queen bed and rich decor. Designed for personal indulgence, the en-suite stone and granite garden bathroom comes with a lovely rain shower and a unique open "museum style" sculpture frame wall looking out to a Buddha in the garden.
One of the favorites of Asmara's guests is to awaken before dawn and watch the early light lift the mist over the ocean of rice and experience a Bali Sunrise right from your private deck with coffee in hand. It's an experience like no other in Bali. Stay long enough and you'll experience the whole cycle of rice cultivation from planting to harvesting and the local religious festivals celebrating Bali's unique cultural heritage.
The gorgeous 15 meter infinity pool at Harmony on the edge of the rice fields is only steps away from your private villa through Harmony's lush landscaping. The Harmony pool is situated on the very edge of the bluff overlooking the rice and has a shallow end seating area for relaxing after you've done your laps! It's central for use by all the villas at Harmony yet large enough for privacy. We don't have pool hours so feel free to take a moonlight swim at 3 am!
Staff at the villa will help you with all your needs from the wonderful daily cooked breakfasts of delicious pancakes or eggs, fresh tropical fruit tea or coffee and juice to start your day in paradise, arranging tours and sightseeing, car or scooter rental, personal laundry and itineraries as well as giving you tips for the best shopping and massage in Ubud. A private chef can also be arranged to cook you traditional Indonesian cuisine right in the privacy of your own villa in your fully equipped kitchen. Or, if you would like to do it yourself, book a private cooking class. Our chef is very reasonable and an amazing cook! We can also organize lunch or evening dining in your villa - just ask our staff at check in and they'll take good care of you.
For those wishing to cook for themselves, we are only one mile away from the main supermarket (Coco supermarket) so you'll be able to stock up with local provisions.
Villa Asmara is located on the edge of a huge rice paddy in the village of Lodtunduh, about 2.5 km from Ubud and not far from the Monkey Forest and all the world class shopping on Hanuman Street and the cultural activities and restaurants in Ubud. We are very centrally located for all of Bali's sights and activities. Sanur beach is close (about 12 miles) and Seminyak. Kuta and Legian are easy drives for a whole day out with a different vibe. Or you can go up the hill to Kintamani and the hot springs at Lake Batur in an hour or so. Temples abound everywhere - from Besakih, the "Mother Temple" to Tanah Lot on the ocean (two of the most famous and holy) and we can organize tours to anywhere on the island and to Lombok too....
Lodtunduh is very close to Ubud center but very quiet. It's a village of farmers and artisans. Villagers can be seen grooming their fighting cocks, drying rice on the road, or participating in the numerous religious festivals.
It's cooler in the Ubud area than the beach. A/C is not needed at Harmony due to our location right on the edge of the rice fields. We almost always get a breeze and Asmara has 2 powerful overhead fans and a high ceiling to keep the air flowing. The breezes complemented by ceiling fans are usually enough to keep you cool even at the warmest time of year. You'll find our open tropical design for indoor/outdoor living works for your comfort.
Your villa stay includes daily breakfast (for up to two people), free wifi, a laptop sized safe, fully equipped kitchen, towels, TV/DVD, parking, laundry (by arrangement), daily staff service, nighttime security staff, a yoga deck, sun loungers and the priceless ambiance of the Harmony lifestyle.
Although we welcome children (our pool has a children's bathing area), Harmony isn't designed specifically as a child safe property so you will need to be responsible for them at all times.
The Villa is available for daily rental (2 night minimum please) or longer. Please ask us for rates for longer term stays (over 10 days).
We have a flexible check in and out time and are happy to accommodate you if you are coming from outside of Bali. We can arrange airport pickup and drop off for you for a reasonable charge.

... and finally .... enjoy the wonderful cycle of the rice paddies! Depending on when you visit you’ll see the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. It’s one of the best things about visiting Harmony! The cycle is fascinating to watch no matter when you come!

Interaction with Guests
I'm not always in Bali as I travel extensively myself, but our staff are really wonderful and will treat you like family. If I'm lucky to be staying while you're there, I'm always available to give you tips and pointers on the best way to maximize your stay in Ubud and Bali.
Our village is still mostly agricultural and its a fascinating place to experience real Bali village life which can't be found in touristy areas such as Kuta or Seminyak. That's the lovely thing about our area of Lodtunduh village.
You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali) , the local temple festivals.
but most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. You'll see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight - you may not approve but its very much part of village life here. And you can wager and maybe win if you want!
There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport (about $30) and into town (about $4) a few minutes away and we can also rent you scooters (and helmets!) for about $6 per day. There's free parking at the villa.
Other Things to Note
Ubud is a gastronomic paradise with virtually every kind of food available just a few minutes from Harmony. Many offer take out and delivery, so you can eat in your villa, under the stars on your private deck, or on the pool deck. Our amazing private chef is available (by arrangement) to cook for you or give you Balinese cooking lessons.
Villa Asmara is one of five villas at Harmony and while Harmony is large enough so each Villa is private, it's small enough for community. We don't have a lot of rules except have maximum fun and relaxation.
We ask you respect other guests privacy as they will yours and please don't smoke except on your private deck (not inside the villa). There's some basic stuff about being in a tropical environment; our staff will advise you on arrival.
Please also note that although we love children Harmony is not designed to be a child safe property and if you do book with children you will need to be totally responsible for them at all times..
We do have a few suggestions though....
We like to suggest you support the village shops where you can buy your beer and snacks from the locals rather than going into town.
We have a resident dog called Trixie. She's a real sweetheart. Enjoy her.
Watch the rice... it's mesmerizing.
Already planning our next holiday to Michael's wonderful villa ! Thank you to Wayan and all the villa staff for making our holiday so restful but also a fabulous experience. The villa is about 10mins by scooter from central Ubud . We hired a scooter which was organised by Wayan and while the road rules were a mystery to us all the other road users were so polite it made getting around Ubud and the surrounding countryside a pleasure. The villa itself was beautiful and we made good use of the pool . Can totally recommend Harmony villas! PS . Trixie the Harmony dog was an added bonus !
From the moment I arrived until the moment I left Bali Harmony Villas I was in bliss. The villas are beautiful, very clean and exactly as pictured. The scene around you is enough to make you want to cry, every morning was the most peaceful experience, paired with a delicious cooked breakfast and fresh fruit juice. I spent many hours on my deck just taking it all in. The pool was lovely and clean, during my stay in April I always had it to myself. While the property dog Trixie would patiently sit by and watch. Trixie was another delight to my stay, a very clean well behaved dog that took on the role of copilot to my solo stay in Harmony Villa. I will miss her!
The staff were very friendly and quite helpful, making my stay that much more comfortable. They were always available if I had any questions and made me feel at home.
I would bike into town every night for dinner and often during the days to explore. I would recommend a bike, or to make life easier, a scooter rental while staying here. It would be about 10 minutes by bike to town.
The experience I had at Harmony Villas was one I will never forget and one I certainly hope to return to. I could not ask for a better location, accommodation- only that I had more time to enjoy this place!
Beautiful private villa, just as advertised. The wall of windows opens up to an expansive rice field view. As other reviewers mentioned, it is far away from town, so expect to take taxis (can be arranged by the lady manager). You can also walk through the rice fields to the monkey forest, which takes about 30 minutes.
We arrived at the villa around 9pm straight from the airport, and wanted dinner. Only the security guard was there, and we couldn't figure out how to get a taxi into town or order food delivery. We tried walking to the main road but were quickly turned away by an aggressive dog. So, if you're arriving late and hungry, you may want to pick something up on the way. This was a minor inconvenience during an otherwise perfect stay!
Hi Matt, glad you loved the villa and sorry you had a difficulty with late food. Actually the security guard knows to order food for you as he has a phone for that purpose. We probably didn't explain that well for late arriving guests. The dogs in the village lane are territorial but they don't bite so you just have to shoo them away.
Our villa manual will be updated to show guests how to order! Thanks for the tip.
We look forward to seeing you again at Harmony.
Our stay in the Samara villa was out of this world. We had the most incredible view of the rice fields and the staff were so kind and accommodating. All of the pictures are true representations and our hosts were extremely prompt in their responses to our inquiries or requests. The breakfast each morning was divine, especially eating out on our own private deck. We were able to drop off our luggage early before checking in and head into Ubud for the full day, which was such a generous allowance that gave us extra time in the area. The taxi ride into Ubud proper is about the equivalent of $3.50 and only a few minutes. We also ordered food delivery on one occasion with the assistance of the sweet staff and it was delicious! The internet speed was great.
Trixie is by far one of the highlights of these villas. She is sweet and gentle and has a kind soul. You can tell that she is well taken care of and loves being there. The hosts and staff cannot be beat- they really consider everything you could want/need, including mosquito coils in the room, an enormous bottle of water for the extent of your stay, extra fans if needed, flexible check-in/out, towels by the pool, assistance with transportation, and helping us to order food. Hands down, we would recommend this listing!
Hi Leah, so glad you had a lovely time. We really appreciate your great review. We know you and Trixie were pals and she'd welcome you back here any time! And of course the staff and Elaine and I too!
Stay in touch and let us know when you plan to come back to Bali!
Staying at the Harmony Villas was beautiful and very tranquil. The view of the rice fields from the room as well as from the pool was breathtaking! We stargazed at night and did yoga in the morning on the villa veranda which was a real experience. The villa was clean and the bathroom was open to the outdoors which was a great feeling. You could however hear the conversations going on in the neighboring villa, which made you realize you were not alone, although mostly we felt pretty much to ourselves. The breakfast was delicious - either eggs or pancake - and the staff was adorable and super friendly. They even left little offerings in front of our villa which was beautiful and gave a special touch. We rented bicycles for $3 a day which was useful because we were able to go to town. However we were probably the only ones on the road not using motorbikes or cars. The traffic was crazy and breathing the fumes might not have been our finest moment. But it was good exercise. The 3 monkeys was our favorite restaurant in town. The villa has an open concept with gaps between the roof and walls, so the occasional visitor from outside will naturally end up in your villa. All part of the experience! The pool is perfectly positioned between the 5 villas.
We came for 2 nights, and stayed for 5 at these lovely rice field cottages. The views are unbelievably beautiful and serene. Very comfy bed, open air breeze, and fresh delicious breakfast had us hooked. We will def. recommend to friends and stay again next time.
Thank you for the kind comments, Priya, we are glad you enjoyed your stay and the breakfasts. And we do hope you will return.
The breakfast is cooked for you in your kitchen as you know so it's not really a menu, just typically what guests tend to want for their wake up meal; fruit, eggs, toast, pancakes juice etc.. Next time please do ask the staff for something different if you have a special request and they will try to make it for you.
Peaceful surroundings. This traditional Balinese villa is nestled right on the rice fields. Great to experience the culture of the local village with the lead up to Nyepi - the Ogeh Ogeh parade.
