Villa Asmara has a huge private deck and meditation garden right on the edge of the rice fields and both sunrise and mountain views to the north as well as a panoramic vista of the terraces to the north and west. One of the favorites of Asmara's guests is to awaken before dawn and watch the early light lift the mist over the ocean of rice and experience a Bali Sunrise right from your private deck with coffee in hand. It's an experience like no other in Bali. Stay long enough and you'll experience the whole cycle of rice cultivation from planting to harvesting and the local religious festivals celebrating Bali's unique cultural heritage.
The gorgeous 15 meter infinity pool at Harmony on the edge of the rice fields is only steps away from your private villa through Harmony's lush landscaping. The Harmony pool is situated on the very edge of the bluff overlooking the rice and has a shallow end seating area for relaxing after you've done your laps! It's central for use by all the villas at Harmony yet large enough for privacy. We don't have pool hours so feel free to take a moonlight swim at 3 am!
Staff at the villa will help you with all your needs from the wonderful daily cooked breakfasts, arranging tours and sightseeing, car or scooter rental, personal laundry and itineraries as well as giving you tips for the best shopping and massage in Ubud. A private chef can also be arranged to cook you traditional Indonesian cuisine right in the privacy of your own villa in your fully equipped kitchen. Or, if you would like to do it yourself, book a private cooking class. Our chef is very reasonable and an amazing cook! We can also organize lunch or evening dinning in your villa - just ask our staff at check in and they'll take good care of you.
For those wishing to cook for themselves, we are only one mile away from the main supermarket (Coco supermarket) so you'll be able to stock up with local provisions.
Our onsite staff will pamper you with a wonderful daily cooked breakfast prepared in your villa each morning of delicious pancakes or eggs, fresh tropical fruit tea or coffee and juice to start your day in paradise! Breakfast will be prepared in your villa each morning from 8-11am. If you would like to change breakfast times, please ensure you notify our villa manager at check in so we can accommodate you.
Villa Asmara is located on the edge of a huge rice paddy in the village of Lodtunduh, about 2.5 km from Ubud and not far from the Monkey Forest and all the world class shopping on Hanuman Street and the cultural activities and restaurants in Ubud. We are very centrally located for all of Bali's sights and activities. Sanur beach is close (about 12 miles) and Seminyak. Kuta and Legian are easy drives for a whole day out with a different vibe. Or you can go up the hill to Kintamani and the hot springs at Lake Batur in an hour or so. Temples abound everywhere - from Besakih, the "Mother Temple" to Tanah Lot on the ocean (two of the most famous and holy) and we can organize tours to anywhere on the island and to Lombok too....
Lodtunduh, a quiet location where the villagers can often be seen grooming their fighting cocks, drying rice on the road, or participating in the numerous religious festivals.
It's slightly cooler in the Ubud area than the beach. A/C is not needed at Harmony due to our location right on the edge of the rice fields. We almost always get a breeze and Asmara has 2 powerful overhead fans and a high ceiling to keep the air flowing. The breezes complemented by ceiling fans are usually enough to keep you cool even at the warmest time of year. You'll find our open tropical design for indoor/outdoor living works for your comfort.
Your villa stay includes daily breakfast (for up to two people), free wifi, a laptop sized safe, fully equipped kitchen, towels, TV/DVD, parking, laundry (by arrangement), daily staff service, nighttime security staff, a yoga deck, sun loungers and the priceless ambiance of the Harmony lifestyle.
Please note that although we love children and welcome them, due to our location on the rice fields you'll need to be responsible for them at all times.
The Villa is available for daily rental (2 night minimum please) or longer. Please ask us for rates for longer term stays (over 10 days).
We have a flexible check in and out time and are happy to accommodate you if you are coming from outside of Bali. We can arrange airport pickup and drop off for you for a reasonable charge.
*** Please also note we must collect a 10% Indonesian government hotel tax payable upon check in which is payable in US$ or Indonesian Rupiah.

... and finally .... enjoy the wonderful cycle of the rice paddys! Depending on when you visit you’ll see the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. It’s one of the best things about visiting Harmony! The cycle is fascinating to watch no matter when you come!

Interaction with Guests
I'm not always in Bali but our staff will look after you hand and foot. If I'm there I'm always available to give you tips and pointers on the best way to maximize your stay inUbud and Bali.
Our village is still mostly agricultural and its a fascinating place to experience real Bali village life which can't be found in touristy areas such as Kuta or Seminyak. That's the lovely thing about our area of Lodtunduh village.
You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali) , the local temple festivals.
but most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. You'll see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight - you may not approve but its very much part of village life here. And you can wager and maybe win if you want!
There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport (about $30) and into town (about $4) a few minutes away and we can also rent you scooters (and helmets!) for about $6 per day. There's free parking at the villa.
Other Things to Note
Ubud is a gastronomic paradise with virtually every kind of food available just a few minutes from Harmony. Many offer take out and delivery, so you can eat in your villa, under the stars on your private deck, or on the pool deck. Our amazing private chef is available (by arrangement) to cook for you or give you Balinese cooking lessons.
Villa Asmara is one of five villas at Harmony and while Harmony is large enough so each Villa is private, it's small enough for community. We don't have a lot of rules except have maximum fun and relaxation.
We ask you respect other guests privacy as they will yours and please don't smoke except on your private deck (not inside the villa). There's some basic stuff about being in a tropical environment; our staff will advise you on arrival.
Please also note that although we love children Harmony is not designed to be a child safe property and if you do book with children you will need to be totally responsible for them at all times..
We do have a few suggestions though....
We like to suggest you support the village shops where you can buy your beer and snacks from the locals rather than going into town.
We have a resident dog called Trixie. She's a real sweetheart. Enjoy her.
Watch the rice... it's mesmerizing.
Absolutely wonderful service from start to finish. Villas are well kept and so are the grounds. We stayed 5 nights in the asmara villa and the view was truly amazing. So close to rural life! The villa itself is not in Ubud but a 5 minute scooter ride and you have world class restaurants to choose from. All in all an excellent honeymoon choice. Will definitely miss it and looking forward to our next visit to Bali! Thanks to everyone for making this a very special moment in our lives!
The villa was amazing! Looked exactly how it looked in the photos. Very clean and spacious and the pool was amazing. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. The resident dogs were so sweet and friendly. I would definitely recommend this villa to anyone and would stay there again when I go back to Bali!
This place is absolutely wonderful. The pictures don't do it justice. We went during the low season, when a lot of the rice had already been harvested, and was differing shades of yellow and green and it was gorgeous. I can't even imagine how much nicer it must be with all the rice at it's lime green state!
The porch was awesome and breakfast every morning was delicious. I loved that we could open all the doors to the house during the day to get a great crossbreeze.
Water is supplied in the rooms and all the kitchen appliances worked great. It was so nice to be able to cook our own food again!
The staff was very friendly and helped with anything we needed.
They say that the sunrise over the fields is awesome from the porch, but the sunrise actually happens pretty far to the right, where it's blocked by the trees and the villas themselves. There was a little hut out in the field that we walked out to to see it better. It would have been nice from the porch, but nothing worth waking up for.
The villa's were a little hard to find, but they have the option of sending a driver for you at the same price we were quoted from where we were, so that's easily fixed.
Other than those (super) minor issues, it was an amazing experience and we would definitely be back!
- We stayed for two nights and I will come back.
- Very conveniently located, not far from the town, and nicely isolated to have one of the BEST rice field view of Ubud: about 300m of opened view, which is very rare.
- Pool area is just amazing, and clean.
- The villa was modern and traditional as the same time, clean and spacious, with a nice partially opened bathroom.
- Staff was very nice and friendly, with bike and taxi service on demand.
- And they come in your villa to cook your breakfast: fresh fruits, banana pancakes, toast and scramble eggs.
- Thank and see you next time !
We loved staying here! The view was indeed amazing, the pool was great, the people were super helpfull and nice. They introduced us to Wayan Suriani who cooked for us which was probably the best food we ate this holiday! Definately a place where you can unwind and relax.
As soon as we arrived, mind and body was immediately at peace. Beautifully presented villa, gorgeous surroundings of pool, rice field, hammock. The whole place was fully booked but would have never known it- very peaceful. Service was fantastic, villa is very clean, breakfast cooked in the villa in the mornings, Trixie the dog very friendly, oh how I dream about this place! I can't wait to go back!!! Thank you for the lovely stay!
Arriving at about 8pm with a taxi arranged by the property, we were welcomed and briefly shown our villa before popping in to tow for a quick meal. The property is located about 5km south of Ubud proper and is delightfully situated in ricefields as shown in photos. A walk to town is possible via the rice fields or up the local road - 45 mins, or by taxi IDR50K or scooter in 10mins.

I'm an educational filmmaker born in the UK, spent many years in Los Angeles, have an organic farm (still going) in Southern California and now travel a lot with bases in beautiful Bali.and equally beautiful Ojai, California. I've created Harmony Villas with my Balinese friend Wayan Nama in a modern tropical minimalist style to reflect our joint passions - connection with the land, no clutter, beauty and a wonderful environment. I'm equally passionate about providing a superlative experience for Harmony guests so they can have an authentic Bali vacation and truly relax.
