I am a student at Monash university, I lived in this room for one week and it was one of those things I would never like to repeat again. First of all, the room that you can see on the picture is not the room you will find in reality. There is another bed and another table and both stay actually in different positions than on the picture. The first issue that shocked me was that there were no duvet, no blankets, no vessel, no soft soap, no cutlery, even no toilet paper for me to use. I needed to buy everything on my own I was told... The room was a bit dirty and I asked the host to hoover it at least, which he managed to do only in two days, because I was told that at that moment there was no hoover in the house. There were lots of weird rules as well: you were not allowed to be in the kitchen after 10 p.m., your had to lock your door everytime you went to the toilet, because previously something was stolen from other guy living in that house and you were not allowed to use much water while taking a shower. After only 5 days I was quite lucky to find another place to stay which was nearer to the university. I talked to the host about it and he said it would be alright. However, since I'd booked for long term period, due to the Airbnb policy, I had to pay for the whole month. Usually to avoid this you can work something out with the host. So I spoke about the resolution request and Thomas T. promised me he will leave a part of money to him, but would return a part, due to the fact that I stayed in the room only for 6 nights and he could find somebody else to live in the room very soon. Two days later I moved out. Since then 4 weeks passed and I didn't get any responce to my resolution request. I sent him a message on the mobile phone and he told me he would return me the part of the money only after I write a good comment on my stay. I declined this offer and wrote to Airbnb several times for help, but they've just told me every time the same things, basically that I need to wait for the hosts responce, which hasn't come yet. To sum it up, I lived for 7 days in a shabby flat and had to pay due to its greedy host more than 900 AUD! Never again!
As the owner of this property, having facilitated a number of very successful stays for people from different countries at my home, I would like to address some of the criticisms put forward by Eduard above.
When Eduard told me he wanted to move closer to his university, I was happy make the arrangements through Air BnB for his stay to be modified from a long-term to short-term stay as per the Air BnB policies. I additionally gave $340 to Eduard, in cash, on the day he left my home. While I hoped this gesture of goodwill would recognised by Eduard, in particular that his review of his stay would reflect my efforts to accommodate his needs and support his change of decision, I am in no way suggested that the refund was being offered in return for a good review. I value the transparency that user reviews provide to Air BnB members and I have no desire to corrupt this system.
Although the furniture has been rearranged since the photograph was taken, it is in fact a photograph of the room that is for let. I do not usually provide bedding and toiletries for long-term bookings however I happily provide these on request. In fact, these were provided to Eduard automatically as I was aware he was newly arrived in Australia. To avoid any future misunderstandings, I have re-worded my advertisement to make these arrangements very easy to understand.
General house rules help us make sure everyone is comfortable, safe and happy in the home. We are flexible with them within all house members’ comfort level and find this varies as we get to know each other. I have provided locks on each bedroom door so that everyone has the option of keeping their room locked and their personal possessions safe. We do not have any water usage restrictions in the house.
There are currently 7 of us living happily together in the house, with stays varying from 1 month to 2 years. I am proud that I have been able to provide an environment that we all find safe, comfortable and convenient. I understand that the setup and location of the home did not match what Eduard was looking for and as such I was happy to accommodate
him moving on – I am however, disappointed at the misrepresentation in this feedback.
About the Host, Thomas
I love life! Everyday is a new experience! I love to help others and enjoy laughing and watching others have a good time! I am a very honest person who will bust his butt to to achieve goals in life! I am very into nature and will pull over on the side of the road to move a turtle so it doesn't get run over. I like all kinds of weather (except when it is over 80 degrees) I don't like watching people get hurt and I will defend people that can't defend themselves! I don't like people who lie or are high and mighty! People who purposely hurt others are scum and should be put away forever! But for the most part I am a content person who believes that we should all stop and enjoy life when ever we can because we are only here a short time and letting life slip by without enjoying it is a waste! I could go on and on but you get the idea of how I am!
