About This Listing
Ideally located in the area any visitor to this city wants to be--hip without being touristy--my contemporary one bedroom apartment has every feature you need for your stay, from a stereo and internet to cooking needs and warm lighting. Enjoy!
This is a recently renovated and impeccably decorated one bedroom flat that is warm and inviting for your stay in Hong Kong. It sits charmingly above the main antique shop street, Hollywood Road, on Hong Kong Island and in the early mornings, you can smell the incense burning as offerings that the shops light.... and it is still a 5 minute walk to Central.
It is fully equipped with all amenities (far superior to any serviced apartment) so you can arrive with your suitcase and immediately sit down to check your emails on the computer (or via your laptop on the wi-fi available) and even begin to cook your dinner..... It can sleep a couple and one additional person comfortably as there are two "real" beds [one queen in the bedroom and one full real "daybed" in the living room].
There are (10) shallow stairs leading up to the main entrance of the building from Hollywood Road, which most guests find charming, and the apartment is located on the second floor.
I leave the "nB" (breakfast) part for all guests to get you started so that you have some food, tea, fresh water, etc. for whenever time of day or night you arrive. I also provide the guests with complimentary shampoo and body wash, toothbrush, moisturiser, etc., in case yours didn't make it on the trip.
Included, in brief:
- Towels & linens: freshly washed once a week
- Computer and large work space
- Full kitchen equipped with base condiments, pots, pans, cutlery, etc. [ready for cooking]
- Espresso machine
- Stereo/DVD player with iPod dock
- CDRoms and DVDs for entertainment
- Mini-stereos for iPod docking in bath and bedrooms
- Local landline telephone with unlimited local calling
These amenities are superior to the usually very bare bone (and slightly depressing) serviced apartments in HK as well as other sublets—your comfort will be far improved. The decor is tasteful, warm and peaceful and it is impeccably maintained.
There is a very comfortable (full-sized) daybed in the living room, which can be used to sleep another person, as well as the queen-sized bed in the bedroom and an additional sofa in the living room.
There is also a work area in the front of the apartment with two desks, scanner, and an internet-ready Mac computer for use, etc.
It is in a fabulous location, near the Man Mo Temple and above the antique shops on Hollywood Road, 2 minutes from Soho, surrounded by antique shops, restaurants and nightlife [but quiet], and a 5 min walk to the MTR.
Minimum stay of 4 nights.
Please kindly send an introduction of yourself when inquiring.
Thank you for your interest.
Next to the famous Man Mo Temple and also near many of the the trendiest restaurants in town. Easy walking distance to Central for meetings and a 5 minute walk to the MTR subway system.
Buses pass along my road, Hollywood Road, and taxis are easy to find along the road as well. It's a 5 minute walk to the Sheung Wan MTR station which connects you to the rest of the city.
I have left everything I could think of to make your stay as comfortable as possible. These include personal items left behind, that I would appreciate you taking care of as if they were your own. Borrow the guides books (or other books) I leave for you, just please leave them behind for the next AirBnB or personal guest, etc. Many thank in advance.
I am flexible on check-in and check-out, contingent on other bookings.
Amy was very kind to have us with a very short notice, while she was very far away: obviously, even if she has a chain of orders and helpers, we had still to leave with her things in the apmt, which is always a bit embarassing, because you don't want to intrude in somebody's privacy.
Thanks for your review, Alba. As mentioned my review of you (the only review I've ever been compelled to give to the AirBnB community that wasn't positive), perhaps you're not familiar with AirBnB but it is a (genius) system where you rent other people's places that they live in or have lived in so, by nature, it is like living in someone's place. It is quite different from a serviced apt or hotel, where I believe someone of your tastes and daily requirements would be more comfortable. None of the dozens of other guests have ever had this concern and have usually been quite appreciative of the space left for them.
My books, CDs (yes, I still have some of those antiques for the stereo at your disposal!), candles, soap, shampoo, etc. are left out for guests to enjoy and use at their discretion. Otherwise, there is nothing personal left out during any guest's stay and certainly nothing to cause embarrassment, especially as I haven't lived there for over a year (!) but only use as a daily working studio space for my photography and a convenient downtown crash pad at times.
The wardrobe is cleared out, as well as several drawers for guests to use, etc... We try to leave the place retaining its personal charm of an AirBnB space -- a careful balance of personal touches but enough space to create the guest's own environment and space to leave their own clothes, personal effects, etc.
The star of my stay was Amy herself. Altho still suffering from an injury to her back, she vacated her apartment so I could stay there, near to my son's flat. Amy was proactive in communicating, through email and clear written instructions. She asked if there was anything she could get in for me and when I mentioned not to go to too much trouble as I had particular likes/dislikes, she went to the trouble of getting in exactly what I had mentioned. The towels were thick and luxurious and every amenity(washing machine, coffee machine, oven, modern hob, wifi etc) available. And the flat was clean! Also well designed with separate areas for chilling, reading, working, cooking, sleeping, even tho, as with all HK flats, not overly large.
I would mention that her bed was higher than the normal (like the princess and the pea). Some people might have trouble in clambering up.However, I , with my new hip, managed it even if with just a little struggle.
Thank you Amy for going to so much trouble to make sure I felt at home and for all the information you left. I am stunned at just how much trust Amy puts in her tenants. Let's hope they all reciprocate and dont take advantage of her.
I know the area very well and the flat is extremely well situated for trendy bistros, wine bars, shopping, convenience stores, noodle bars, parks, you name it, Sheung Wan has it.
Dont everyone rush to book, as I would like to come back! Thanks again, Amy.
Amy' apt is very cozy and it felt like home. The location is quite central to pretty much anywhere you want to go on the island and Kowloon is a 10 minute walk and a 5 minute ferry walk away. The only drawback is the hot water runs out fairly quickly so long hot showers are a no-no. I would definitely stay again.
Amy saved my life when someone else on the site cancelled my reservation for the month of September after I had left London for Hong Kong.
All I can say is fantastic apartment and wonderful host. There is also a sylph or fairy who works when you are not there and by magic the place is perfect when you come home in the evening. (Although it is not guaranteed that stretched to finding my running gear freshly laundered and ready for the next outing!) Thank you Amy and thank you Endah
I had the pleasure in enjoying Amy's apartment for 2 months. I felt as comfortable as into own home. This place is so cozy and so well taken care of. Simply wonderful! I was a little sad to leave but there is a chance to come back :).
Amy is a wonderful person. Even we did not have the chance to meet in person, she took great care of all needs immediately by return mail. It was like having known her for long time. The description of the apartment and all equipment was great. The suggestions for places and activities in the area very helpful. I will miss this place. Thanks for everything Amy. I had a great time!
Amy has a great apartment right in the middle HK. I have been travelling to HK for 5 years for work, and always did hotels, this is the first time I have done anything besides hotel and it was a great experience. Everything met my expectations and went beyond. I highly suggest Amy as a host and her apartment for anyone with plans to stay in HK!
My wife, toddler daughter, and I stayed at Amy's place during the Chinese New Year holidays. We live only an hour away in China, but we wanted to have a few days in Hong Kong getting to know another area of the city better. Our stay on Hollywood Road was great. Amy's flat is in an awesome location, only 10-minutes walk from the Central-Mid-Levels escalators with lots of restaurants, cafés, and interesting shops nearby.
We were able to feel like locals right away. We appreciated the preparation Amy took for her guests from emails before our visit, maps and guidebooks available, and a book she made to get her guests acquainted with the neighborhood and the flat. She had a lovely bottle of wine waiting for us on our arrival. Loving good food, she told us in advance some places to try and where to shop. She had a loaf of bread waiting for us in the freezer to get us going.
We enjoyed having a kitchen to cook when we wanted to. The bed in the bedroom was very comfortable as were the daybed and sofa. There's lots of daylight from two sides of the apartment, though you probably want to draw the blinds at night. Amy mentioned getting water delivered, but the water in Hong Kong is safe to drink from the tap so that's what we did.
We're always concerned about the suitability of places we stay for our 1 1/2 year-old daughter -- safety for her and for the owners' possessions. We moved just a few items in the flat, but it was very safe for her. We did have a baby stroller and took it out with us each day. While it was worth having, it is good to keep in mind that there are a lot of steps -- not just here but just about everywhere in Hong Kong. To get to Amy's apartment, you have to either climb or descend a set of stairs from the street to the door of the building and then climb up a pretty narrow set of stairs to the 2nd floor (or 3rd floor depending on where you're from). This wasn't a problem without the stroller, but it's worth keeping in mind if you have or stroller or if you have limited mobility.
On the plus side for parents, the Hollywood Road Children's Playground is just a few steps away across the street from the Man Mo Temple. Our daughter loved it and we liked meeting other parents there too.
We really enjoyed our stay. Thanks, Amy!
About the Host, Amy
I have been with AirBnB now for a couple years, often having guests stay at my apartment in the midst of it all in Hong Kong and they seem to have enjoyed, which makes hosting a true pleasure.
I'm an American fine art photographer and I travel often, so would like to offer my place to you while I am not there. I keep it clean, stylized and comfortable so you'll feel more at home.
I travel often and often remotely so sometimes it takes a couple days for me to respond but as long as I have wifi I'll get back to you immediately.
If you are interested, I would be delighted to provide more information about myself directly to you. So please just ask!
