This is an ocean front property, a 5-bedroom penthouse, complete with all amenities and at least one English-speaking American on the premises at all times to help you with your questions, concerns, and travel plans. This listing is for the master bedroom. Throughout the year, this property houses a respectful, hardworking American couple that is willing to share the peace, comfort, beauty, and tranquility of the Caribbean with one or two guests. Currently, there are a few other guests that have decided to stay the rest of the year, so there is a fun, eclectic mix of people at the house. For your convenience, there is a small store on the first floor of our building for your basic day to day needs. Usually, I work during the mornings, but I am free in the afternoons. Depending on when your flight comes in, I might be able to meet you at the airport or even show you around town. This has been the standard routine, but we will need to exchange some emails to make sure that the scheduling work out for us. And, just so you know, there is a washing machine on premises for your use, but there is no dryer. Like most Colombians, we dry our washed items using the power of the equatorial sun. This very large bedroom has air conditioning capability, but the price to run the A/C is an extra $30 US per week, since electricity here is quite expensive. Please take special note of the fact that there are no elevators in this building, and you are on a 5th floor penthouse, which means you will have to walk up 5 flights of stairs; this is often easy for most people, but if you have knee issues, then please reconsider. And don't worry about your heavy luggage, I will make sure somebody brings it up for you.
We are located right on the main avenue, Avenida Santander aka Carrera 1, and we are situated between Hotel Mar Del Norte and the Hotel Marbella. Our building is named El Habitacional Marbella. We have the best views of the ocean from our 5-story high, very large balcony; it's perfect, we are not too high, and we are not too low of the ground!
Now, AirBnB recommends that I share with you my opinion of Cartagena. Well, I love it, and I don't plan on leaving it any time soon. The weather is great and the cultural stuff you run into here is fascinating, better yet, it's amazing!. You just need to be aware of your surroundings and also of the prices one pays for whatever items or services one seeks. Do not come here and start buying things on your first day. Ask around: how much is this?, how much is that?... cuanto por esto?...cuanto por eso? Also, wait to exchange your dollars for pesos until you are away from the airport, because they always charge too much for the exchanging of the dollars. And as far as Taxis go, if you can, walk a half block away from the airport entrance and hail a cab. The cabs here in Cartagena are totally safe. You can get into any cab and ask them how much it is to take you to El Habitacional Marbella, which sounds like this: Cuanto para llevarme al Edificio Habitacional Marbella? If they say more than 6,000 pesos, they are overcharging you; at that point, tell him you only have 6,000 (seis mil pesos), and if they say know "No," then close the door and wait for the next cab, which will probably have a more honest driver. I will let you in on other tips before you arrive, if you just ask the right questions.
Take care, Walter.
I like this property because it is a residential building, where you will actually be able to witness something truly rare in Cartagena: the middle class. There is extreme wealth and sophistication on one side, and poverty and roughness on the other side of this city, but in our neighborhood you will see a bizarre array of the good, the bad, and the ugly of middle class Colombians.

I can just repeat what my predecessors said: it's a great place to stay in cartgena and walter is perfect host! He picked me up at the airport and showed me around the city. The room was simple but had everything you need. The kitchen is perfectly equipted, the living room very nice furnished and the view from the balcony just breathtaking!
Walter has a great place and great stories about life in Cartagena. He took time out to meet me when I arrived. Walter showed me some of the spots to visit and show me the storied fortress of the old city in "EL Centro." Overall a great host.
Great couple! Walter & Tara are very nice. I feel I already have good friends in Cartagena. Thank you guys for everything! Hope to come back soon.
It's a nice place. The apartment and building is clean and very, very, quiet. The kitchen was great and had everything needed and great pans to cook on, etc. It gets very hot, if staying for a while I recommend getting an AC. Great little convenient store in building. Overall good experience.
It was a very nice stay with Walter. I highly recommend it.
My stay was better than expected and a great value! The room is comfortable and has a wide view of the sea. Walter and Tara are excellent hosts, a surefire hit for anyone looking to stop by for a few days
As an Airbnb host and someone who's stayed with people all over the world, I have to say it's pretty awesome when you meet someone as cool as Walter... He often meets guests at the airport (!!!) and he's goes the extra mile over and over. He is so cool, I met a girl there who didn't end up staying with him because he didn't have the dates available-- but she hung out a bit with him and his wife while in town! I am a single woman traveling alone, and he helped direct me so that I had a perfect stay--- and I am a teacher. I wanted to do some volunteering, and he even helped me find that. The place was great-- but the host-- one word: WOW!
Place was great. We booked Walter's place because he had great reviews as being a knowledgeable and personable host, and he did not disappoint. When we arrived at the airport, we were lucky enough to have Walter meet us at the airport and negotiate a cab for us. He then took the time to personally answer a lot questions we might have about the area, calm and security concerns (Cartagena is really safe BTW!), and give us travel advice and tips. I would recommend him to anyone visiting Cartagena. Walter was available via email or phone whenever we had any questions. We are very grateful to have stumbled upon a host that was committed to making our stay such a success. Thanks!!
