Extra spacious

Guests love this home’s spaciousness for a comfortable stay.
The Barn at Cold River features stunning views of Killington Mountain and abuts Cold River which is famously known for gold panning. This location is private yet minutes to several ski mountains and lakes in central Vermont including Killington, Okemo, and Lake Bomoseen to name a few. Previously an old post and beam horse barn, this home has been completely remodeled from top to bottom and has a unique modern farmhouse feel. Welcome to your home away from home. We can't wait to host you!

The space
Everyday my husband and I would drive by this property and say "Wow, I would love to own that place. What a magical spot." Then that dream became a reality in 2021. We had a vision and knew just how special this once horse barn could be when we brought it back to life.

What used to be an old horse barn, has since been completely renovated from top to bottom with top of the line craftsmanship and high efficiency, modern day appliances. The main floor has radiant heat to keep your feet nice and toasty after those days on the slopes or out enjoying all of Vermont's natural beauty, while mini splits on each level cool you down in the hotter months after basking down by the river. The exaggerated first floor hallway resembles the exact layout of the original horse stalls. Beautifully detailed tall ceilings provide a light and airy feeling while exposed beams keep the original rustic feel. You will find inside photos of the progress "The Barn" had to take to get to where it is today.

Centrally located, you are just 5 minutes from rutland city which provides everything you could ever need including shopping, restaurants, a hospital, convenience stores, gas, theaters, entertainment, Spartan Arena, etc while being just a short drive to several ski mountains (Killington, Pico, Okemo, Stratton) and additionally only 15 minutes to Lake Bomoseen or Vermont State University (Castleton). This location provides a great oasis to get away from the hustle and bustle while also being conveniently located close enough to pop out for a night on the town.

Step into the front door to find a large mud room and secluded, designated office space. On the first level, you will also find an oversized hallway which leads to (2) bedrooms with queen beds, a 3/4 bath with walk - in shower, family/ playroom, and secondary mud room entrance. As you enter the 2nd floor you will enter the open concept kitchen, living, and dining room area with attached deck overlooking stunning views of the Green Mountains and Cold River. Adjacent to the kitchen you will find a generous pantry equipped with a beverage fridge and all of your cooking staples. Down the hallway you will find a full bath with soaker tub, washer / dryer, skylight allowing an abundance of light, as well as a live plant wall, and an additional 2 bedrooms with walk in closets.

It has been 2 years of tireless work getting this home ready to share with everyone and we so look forward to hosting you and your group! We hope "The Barn" is your home away from home.

All spaces in the house will be accessible minus the owner’s closet and mechanical room.

Other things to note

Meet your hosts

Born in the 90s
My work: Real Estate Agent
My husband and I are both born and raised Vermonter’s who love the ever changing seasons, close knit community, and slower pace lifestyle so much, we never left. After college we landed in Clarendon, Vt and drove by what we now know as “The Barn.” My husband, a home inspector, and myself a realtor, decided to take an old, abandoned horse barn and turn it into a sweet oasis. Fast forward - we are now a family of 4 with a passion for hosting!
