The casita del Sol is a small chalet of mountain situated in a 5 hectare property; La Cima del Mundo, at 1 300 m of height, at the heart of more than 200 hectares of private reserves.
The chalet consists of 2 double rooms, a bathroom, a completely equipped American kitchen, a lounge with fireplace, a covered terrace, a private garden, a parking area.
We knew how to make of this casita a warm place, just like our place and like the welcome that we take pleasure to offer to our hosts.
A lot of activities are possible in the valley, such as gone hiking, trek at more than 3800 m, walks, waterfalls, swimming pools of hot waters, fishing, ride, paragliding, bathing in river, visits of farm producers of delicious cheeses, coffee, etc. All these activities are between 5 and 8 km of our place.
Our property offers a beautiful wide and relatively flat path about 4 km in the forest.
You will be in perfect communion with the nature, and will meet peace and serenity in this garden of Eden. You could appreciate a fantastic view over all the mountains, and amazing sunsets.

This is a sweet, adorable little house in a very remote area. The house is artistically hand-crafted, comfortably furnished and beautifully decorated, with many thoughtful little details. And meticulously clean. The hosts, Swin and Jeddy, are friendly, warm, lovely people, and as vacation rental hosts they really understand what travelers need upon arrival. Everything from shampoo to plastic wrap to coffee filters was provided, and even some coffee and a basket of fresh fruit. Most of the rentals we stayed at in Costa Rica had no closets or hangers, but this house had clothes hangers and a place to hang clothes in each bedroom, so we could release the suitcase wrinkles by hanging our clothes in the ambient humidity.
The house is surrounded by wilderness at the end of a very primitive, rocky, pot-holed gravel road, in a small compound that includes Swin & Jeddy's home and another house across the yard. Outside the bedroom windows are views of beautiful mountain ranges and forests.
The location is near Chirripo, the highest mountain in the country. The trail to the Chirripo summit is a 2-day round trip hike, which we didn't take, but if your goal is to climb Chirripo this would be a good place to stay before and after, and the price is so reasonable that you could rent it for the night that you don't use it while you're camping on Chirripo. It's also near the Cloudbridge nature preserve and Los Cusingos bird sanctuary, which are un-touristy places to see toucans and wild parrots and other tropical birds and wildlife with rarely another person on the trails. The house is 35 minutes from the nearest town and grocery store.
The climate here is absolutely perfect. It's near the equator so you'd expect it to be hot, but the elevation is high enough to be perfectly pleasant in the day (feels like 70's) and cool enough to need blankets at night. And surprisingly few mosquitoes.
The only drawback is the remoteness and the bad roads that make it take a long time to get to, and a long time to get to anything else from it, except for the wilderness parks mentioned above. (Actually, it was our experience all over Costa Rica that every car trip took much longer than the maps indicated that it should.) So if you're visiting this part of Costa Rica and you want to be in the wilderness, this place is ideal.
You sit in a porch, watching hummingbirds dart in and out of the flowers around you. In the distance, behind the trees, you catch glimpses of the town in the valley below. In the morning, the sun shines, in the afternoon the clouds move in from the mountains behind the house. Swin and Jedy's dogs come to check in on you occasionally, and accompany you on hikes up the trail towards the mountains, or down the steep road to the river. In the house, there is a bright kitchen, two bedrooms with comfortable beds and windows that look out onto the valley. There is a bright kitchen, with fresh fruit, and a nice living area with a fireplace. The place is tastefully decorated and has a nice, organic feel to it. The finca is based on top of an old, abandoned hydroelectric project, and there are signs of its old life here and there, now overgrowing with flowers and vines. Swin and Jedy's house is about 20 meters away, on the other side of the yard, and they are very welcoming and helpful as hosts. This is a beautiful, somewhat remote place, a short (but steep) drive away from the communities at the foot of Chirripó.
What a beautiful and peaceful place for vacation. The property is serene and expansive with a great trail to hike and terrific views of the surrounding mountains. Swin was a terrific host, very warm and welcoming. A real pleasure!
A rustic little spot in the mountains gets you away from the tourist hustle and bustle. Swin and family are wonderful hosts and quickly respond to any requests or questions. The drive up takes you through teeny towns and past rushing rivers. The house is rustic and cozy and there is a fireplace, enjoy.
Our experience was great. Very nice people, experience and place to stay. Beautiful seperate home in nature, with own kitcken and two double bedrooms and a nice bathroom. Nice terrace also. Do not hesitate to visit swins place, cause they are very nice and help you find your way in the area. thanks guys! Ps: go there with 4x4 car.
My two friends and I stayed with Swin and her husband for a few days on a tour around Costa Rica and we had an amazing time. Swin and her husband were very welcoming and friendly, even helping to tow our rental car up the hill when we got stuck! They have a very friendly and energetic young son as well as two great dogs. Their house is pretty far from most things, so be sure to get some groceries before arriving because the nearest places to eat are about 20 minutes away by car. Also, a 4-wheel drive car is helpful for reaching their house, though we made due with our tiny Hyundai i10, though we did get stuck the first time. The property is beautiful and incredibly peaceful. The scenery was breathtaking. I would definitely stay here again.
Into the wild! beautiful location and superbly renovated place. The owners, Swin and Jedy, made everything possible to ensure the comfort of their guests. However, going there with a toddler wasn't ideal for us. The environment did not meet our expectations beside walks in the jungle there is not much to do in a walking distance. Since the place is very difficult to access we found taking the car on bumpy dirt roads was a hassle. We enjoyed the place for 3 days and looked for another destination.
We've visited about 5 different places while touring Costa Rica with our 9 month old baby, and our most enjoyable stay was most definately at Swin's beautiful property in the mountains. It's quite a hike up a bumpy road (by car of course), but is so worth the view and tranquility. We are very adventurous people by nature, but do appreciate the comforts of home when adventuring to different countries. Swin accommodated such request as providing a baby bath, and even a stroller if we needed one (try to get that kind of service at hotel) , but also advised us on where to go venturing, what fees we can expect to be charged for entry into Chirripo, what was going on in San Isidro (great Thursday market btw), and even where to stop on our way to Manuel Antonio, which was our next destination. Swin and her husband really made us feel like family. Should we decide to visit Costa Rica again some day, we will most definately look them up.
