The space

The casita del Sol is a small chalet situated in a 5 hectare property; La Cima del Mundo, at 1 300 m of height, at the heart of more than 200 hectares of private reserves.

The chalet consists of 2 double rooms, a bathroom, a completely equipped kitchen, a lounge with fireplace, a covered terrace, a private garden, a parking area.

We knew how to make of this casita a warm place, just like the welcome that we take pleasure to offer to our hosts.

A lot of activities are possible in the valley, such as gone hiking, trek at more than 3800 m, hikes, waterfalls, swimming pools of hot waters, fishing, ride, paragliding, bathing in river, visits of farm producers of delicious cheeses, coffee, etc. All these activities are between 5 and 8 km of our place.

Our property offers a beautiful wide and relatively flat path about 4 km in the forest.

You will be in perfect communion with the nature, and will meet peace and serenity in this garden of Eden. You could appreciate a fantastic view over all the mountains, and amazing sunsets.

Pros: - Swin and her family are super nice and helpful in arranging your stay - The property is gorgeous, like a garden museum - The hiking path is AWESOME. I saw 2 ~4 ft long black cats (perhaps jaguarundi, not counting tail length), a coati, and 2 other sets of noises, perhaps from a white-lipped peccary (grunting at me from very close) and another from a type of monkey (researched the noises and talked with separate animal rescue center staff afterwards, so best guesses!). Amazing. - Talamanca Reserve nearby is *unreal*. Do the whole trail. Took me about 4 hours at an easy pace with stops, not for the out-of-shape though. Cons: - You MUST have a 4x4 to get up their ~12 minute road/driveway. A car will not cut it, even if it's 4 wheel drive, it won't have the rock-clearance.

We loved our stay at Swin's place, it was exactly what we were looking for: quiet, quaint and cozy, The house is much much nicer and larger than in looks in the pictures. The kitchen is BEYOND equipped. Overall 10/10. The house was a little hard to find but just added to our adventure.

We had the most amazing time staying with Swin! Only regret is not staying four times as long. Her location was beautiful, with a wonderful 4km hike available right out the back door. The area around Swin's house had a lot to offer as well. Make sure to check out the cheese place she recommends in Cannan- amazing cheese, amazing people, amazing prices!

This was a beautiful remote home that sits in the most lush green mountains next to such a clear river. We absolutely loved it. Swin wasn't there when we were but there were several times I messaged her and she immediately responded. Even very late at night. We didn't rent a car (even though Swin highly recommended it). I can see why! The home is up a very steep road. We still enjoyed exploring by foot. We had hoped it was closer to Chirripo but it was still about 4 miles from the park entrance. The people in the area were kind and friendly. We loved being able to buy fruit from homes on the main road. Swin has a great binder full of information that was extremely helpful. It was a beautiful home.

Our stay at this cabin was nothing short of spectacular! We came here after time on the coast, and were so happy to escape the heat and humidity for some fresh mountain air. This cabin, as well as the other rental on their property, are both stunningly designed, and cared for with much love and attention to detail. The property is stunning, hiking trails and look outs at your back door. Swin and her family were wonderful hosts, and always ready to offer advice and suggestions for exploring the area. There is much to do around Rivas, including two cloud forest reserves, hot springs, trout ponds, and plenty of hiking. Just up the road there is a small village with a cheese maker, chocolatier, and bakery. Note: a 4x4 vehicle is necessary to access much of this area, including the cabin itself. We are so lucky to have found this place - it is highly recommended.

The Chirripo Valley was one of my favorite places to stay in Costa Rica. Completely surrounded by huge mountain landscapes, the location is easy to find and just far enough from the town to feel carefree and total privacy. Swin was a fantastic host, giving us good recommendations and keeping the house stocked with everything we could have needed. We had a delicious lunch at Vista al Cerro in Herradura after visiting the hot springs, and also enjoyed our visits to the local artesanal cheese and chocolate shops. The host, her family, and the local people are some of the kindest people I have ever met. Thank you for the wonderful experience!

Swin and her family were absolutely delightful. The home is beautiful and there is nothing quite like waking up to the beautiful sounds of nature. The 4WD is absolutely essential, but the road is a BLAST. What a great drive. Best to get there during the daytime. Second right after the church in Chimirol, not the first. The locals are lovely. Swin is a brilliant person. I highly suggest this great spot.

Swin User ProfileSwin is a superhost.
