About This Listing
My home is a beautiful railroad apartment in a pre-war (1931) building in Bushwick, NY. Its a very big beautiful space that can easily accommodate a family. Laundromat next door, L subway train 1 block away, grocery store 2 blocks away. Lovely bars and restaurants all around.
My home is filled with beautiful molding, beautiful color and antiques. The kitchen is large and very cooking friendly (I cook every night!) The bathroom is small, but very cute unique with strange old pipes coming out of random places and a double shower!
The neighborhood is very lively, and also changing. There is a bit of the latino vibe left with lots of delicious cheap ethnic food and music everywhere; but the gentrification is steadily crawling our way so there are tons of farm-to-table restaurants, organic stores and coffee shops galore. Expect to come home to a very comfortable relaxing setting. I don't have cable but the flat screen is on the wall and I have tons of DVDs(I was a film student) and Netflix is directly on the TV. Otherwise go in the library, pick a book and curl up with Kisia (the cat) on the chaise lounge.
The train is a block away and gets you into the city (union square) within 15-20 mins. The neighborhood is up and coming and has lots of new awesome food places, bars, galleries and theaters popping up among alleys and brownstones. I highly recommend walking around the neighborhood - some of the best graffiti may be right around the corner- this is Brooklyn after all.
Keep it down after 12 on weeknights - there is a family living below me
Keep bathroom door open at all times when not in use (for the cat)
Keep all phone chargers/headphones off floor - the cat will chew them :/
Enjoy my home!
I was in Bushwick strictly for work and I wanted space and some comfort but as I sat in Olga's apartment I often thought whether you are there for work or pleasure this is a lovely apartment. Beautifully and quirkily decorated, it's warm and friendly with interesting prints on the walls and amusing artefacts in the cabinets. On a more practical but equally important level, everything works, from the kitchen to the bathroom to the comfortable bed. And if ever you feel the need for a bit of extra company, Kisia the cat makes sure you get it and gently reminds you when it's time to fill up her bowl.
Nearby there are good places to eat and it's a five minute walk to the subway. All in all a great place to stay, in an interesting and ever-changing neighbourhood.
Olga was great with communication, any queries were very quickly dealt with before and during the stay. The place was a good layout with quirky character and vintage items and also a very good size for the price. Olga left out guidebooks etc and an easy to understand instruction manual.
The reservation was canceled the day before arrival. This is an automated posting.
There was a fire in the unit below mine a week prior to Lise's arrival. We were in communication the whole time hoping the place would be ready for her arrival (luckily I only incurred smoke damage). Unfortunately that was not the case and we both decided that it would be best if she found another place. On the bright side my whole apartment was repainted and is ready to welcome new guests!
Olga's apartment is amazing!! She was a very gracious host, the apartment was very well prepared for our arrival, it was very well cleaned and organized and she left us many helpful resources for the city (plus cookies!) The apartment is one block away from the L train which was really convenient, the neighborhood is fairly active and coming home late in the AM felt pretty safe. Kisia (the cat) was the best part though, she's a cuddler and we already miss her!! We would definitely stay here again!
