Amazing location, everything as listing says it is. Gus is super friendly and helpful - thank you
I booked Gus' place for 3 nights in January 2015. Maybe because it was my first time using airbnb but unfortunately I did not have a pleasant experience. My reasons for a unfavorable review are as follows: 1. The space. The pictures available on airbnb showed a cozy and neat place. The apartment in actuality was even smaller. In the main room (the one with the double bed in it), it was impossible to keep a carry on size luggage open and be able to open/close the door. There was an open concept rod with hangers and a small shelf on the bottom. We did not use it because we didn't want to hang up our clothes in the space - because it was very, very dirty. I mean everything from the kitchen ceiling with random brown spots, the vent in the bathroom, to dried on short, curly hairs on the wall of the main bedroom. I really wish I could attach pictures because only those could detail the severity. The main bedroom also conveniently featured a window, with views into the apartment's living/kitchen area, thankfully blessed with a pull down shade. I didn't venture into the second bedroom except at the start and end and can only mention that it has a single bed and is smaller than the main bedroom. Most sadly, despite its tiny size the apartment could have been an excellent option. It is close to Queen Street and we found the walk to the wharf very pleasant on the side streets. And despite one of the two door locks being torn out by force with obvious damage to the door, I didn't feel unsafe at any point as the building has multiple layers of security. However, despite all the positives (or possible positives) of the space, I could not forgive the unclean state of the apartment. We vacuumed all the rooms prior to leaving, wiped down all the surfaces we used in the kitchenette and bathroom prior to leaving and the apartment already looked a little better. We washed the sheets as well (though the comforter we tried to touch the least and laid unused given its multiple yellowish stains). I think we left the place in a much better place than we found it. 2. Gus. I was really dissatisfied with my interaction with him. I booked the place far in advance of our stay and I kept trying to finalize where/when we would meet up, he show us the apartment/hand over the key. He kept delaying saying that we'll finalize closer to date until about week in advance he emailed me that he's going camping and will be unavailable to meet us. Despite his well meaning friends, who were very nice, there were still a lot of questions we had about wifi/laundry/other stuff that we figured out but with much more time investment (which on vacation is crucial). Additionally, we were planning to spend about 1.5-2 weeks in NZ and didn't want to...
Gus was great, very friendly & welcoming. This apartment was so close to downtown, it was really easy to see the sights, go shopping, do everything really! The description was spot on, we had no issues at all with the apartment or with our wonderful host :)
This was the perfect place to stay for a night before catching a bus out of town in the morning. We booked last minute and Gus was very accommodating to make sure we could get into the apt. The location is great and the apt is exactly as advertised. We had a hiccup getting out of the apt in the morning, but gus went out of his way to help us out. Gus is awesome.
This apt is in a perfect location!! Walking distance from the city central. Gus is a very nice person and very welcoming. The apt wasn't as clean as I'd hoped, but I think that's because they rely on the people before to clean it, which they do state in the ad. The washing machine slightly ruined some nylon workout pants, so only use it for very sturdy clothes. All in all, Gus is generous and accommodating. Thanks for the stay.
