............................ BLUE BONNET BnB ......................

Conveniently located inside the Loop in a unique park like setting, with a beautiful Pool, and huge Oak trees where you're surrounded by the sounds of squirrels and crickets, not a concrete jungle...no freeway or big city sounds. Anywhere you'd want to go inside the Loop in 10-20 minutes. Multiple dining and shopping options 5 blocks away. Just kick back and relax!

Follow the pictures above for a "guided tour" of my place.

When you step up to my front door, you'll see a beautiful little medallion on the door that reads "Bienveniedos! Me casa es su casa". In my travels over the years, I've been fortunate enough to have been the guest of a few hosts who opened their homes to me with total kindness and warmth, making me "feel so comfortable and at home that I could fall asleep on their couch" as an old friend of mine used to say.

I want to pass that same feeling and sentiment on to you... and hopefully you'll feel comfortable enough to make yourself at home, and "fall asleep on my couch!"

Your spacious upstairs master bedroom has been furnished and organized with you, the traveler in mind. I took from my past travel experiences and made sure that this space is not only beautiful, clean, and comfortable, but that it has everything you need to have a relaxing and hassle free place to stay while visiting Houston.

First and most importantly, you've got a great bed equipped with a Queen size MEMORY FOAM MATTRESS that sleeps two very comfortably, and there's freshly laundered 100% cotton bed & bath linen, including bath robes for everyone. You've got several choices of pillows including memory foam, feather, wool, and regular foam, and there's a three speed ceiling fan, and new central air & heat installed in 2012. You're gonna sleep like a baby...

I've found that most of my guests prefer to "live out of their suitcase or backpack", so another really great feature in this room is a six foot long credenza that's just the right height to conveniently open your luggage, backpacks, and computer and leave them open on the top shelf, right where you need it, at waist level, not on the floor; or you can store unneeded items down below on the lower shelf. (pic 10) The credenza is also the perfect height to be used as a desk as well if you need to work, and there's a convenient surge protector with six electrical outlets.

If you've got something really nice you want to unpack, and let the wrinkles fall out, there's a closet with lots of hangers, an iron, a laundry bag, and a three drawer chest for folded things. There's also your own dedicated space in the shared bathroom to stow your toiletries right where you need them...the bathroom. There's an emergency dopp kit, in case you forgot something, or there's a CVS 24 hr pharmacy four blocks away.

There's super fast wifi so you can watch Netflix, communicate, email, or work if need be. There's also several convenient electrical outlets to charge your smart phone, notebook, or iPad... One on either side of the bed, and one by each sitting area, and a surge protector with six outlets at the end of the credenza. So there you go... All taken care of....Now you can relax.

Directly across the hall from your bedroom is a newly remodeled shared bathroom, with lots of fresh clean towels and complimentary body wash and shampoo. I have a really nice warm and homey kitchen and breakfast nook area, and a relaxing, comfortable living room downstairs, so feel free to hang out there anytime you feel like it. I work from home, so most likely I'll be in my office working, and you'll pretty much have the rest of the place to yourself, so make yourself at home!

The second B in airbnb stands for BREAKFAST, and I provide a self serve continental style breakfast of hot or cold cereal, fresh fruit, milk (whole, 2%, Soy), orange juice, drip or instant coffee, or choice of several teas (filtered water). There's plenty of space in the frig for anything you might want to pick up for yourself if you have specific dietary needs.

Outside there's a beautiful green space with large Oak trees, lush foliage, and a *SWIMMING POOL*. Enjoy the peace and quiet, and if weather permits, take a dip in the pool. Lots of extra clean towels are provided. Also if you need to, there's a coin operated laundry on the premises. Wash your clothes while you're taking a dip!

You could save some $$ and pick up some bread, cheese, & wine and walk two blocks to the west of my place and be sitting in a swing hanging off a big Oak tree at the top of a levy. From there you can look out across a pasture with a herd of grazing horses, as the sun sets.

This is Texas after all..... ;)

_____________ HOUSTON IN GENERAL _____________

In all my travels to various wonderful places all over the world I've always been a back packer and relied totally on Bed & Breakfast places, and on mass transit, never renting a car, and I can appreciate that point of view. Please keep in mind though, Houston is a very new, very big and sprawling city, and if you're only here a day or two, and time is of the essence, you will best be served by renting a car. If you're here three/ four days or longer, mass transit from my place works great, even to NASA.

  • Staying with Dow is like staying with an old friend. He is a thoughtful and considerate host and I immediately felt at home. His home is wonderfully-located - close to the Medical Center and in a lovely neighborhood with nearby shops and stores. The room is inviting, comfortable, well-appointed. If you're looking for a place to stay in Houston, check out Dow's place. I hope to book again when I'm back in town!

  • I've stayed with Dow several times; he is a perfect host and great friend. I try to stay at his place every time I go to Houston.
His place is always impeccable. He pays close attention to details. The room has a really comfortable bed and the windows overlook an beautiful courtyard shaded by live oaks. Just a great place to relax.
One of the best things about staying with Dow is he makes you feel at home.
I highly recommend Dow's place to everyone.

  • If you're looking for an Airbnb in Houston - THIS is the one, look no further. Dow sets the standard for Airbnb hosts - his space is clean, neat, tidy and well-located. Breakfast choices are many and healthy snacks abound. I highly recommend this "Hidden Gem/Cozy Retreat". When I'm back in Houston I know exactly where I will stay - and if this gem is not available, I may have to change my travel dates!!!

  • This could be my Texas home away from my Michigan home! Dow is a kind gentle soul who strives to have his guests be comfortable and feel welcome (and I sure did!) His lovely home is in a great location in that it is quiet and relaxing yet just a quick drive to the major hot spots. Dow is full of helpful information and will do his best to make your stay the best. Highly recommend!

  • 2nd time staying with Dow, and just as good an experience as last time! Dow is a great host, very accommodating and generous; makes you feel at home, not like a stranger borrowing a bed. His place is very comfortable, nice bed, a pillow of every type, and great water pressure in the shower, Nice quiet neighborhood in a great location. Highly recommended!

  • We spent two nights with Dow and on our very first night, having met Dow for the first time, he made me feel like I was staying with a family member or friend I had known for years. His only rule, "Make yourself at home", was genuine and sincere. Dow was incredibly warm, welcoming, hospitable and created a lovely setting for himself and his guests. The surrounding decorations were beautiful, of varying cultures and quite fascinating to see. The breakfast was tasteful and nutritious. Our bedroom and bathroom were exquisite, very clean and plenty equipped with many comforts for us to gain some excellent sleep and refresh ourselves in the morning. Our second night, we had two or three hours of wonderful conversation and we found Dow to be very interesting as he had many great stories to share and was interested in ours as well. I would highly recommend Dow to anyone looking for a place to stay while in Houston. The kind of atmosphere Dow provides will not be found in a hotel. And our privacy was certainly respected, as well. This was also my first time in a bed and breakfast. If our visit with Dow was representative of all b&bs, then when travelling I will only (email hidden). We really did feel at home. If needing to stay in a b&b again in Houston, I know where to go.

  • My stay at Dow's home was peaceful and warm. The complex he lives in was also very nice-- lots of greenery and very safe. Dow is lively, easygoing and generous. I arrived to a basket of fruit, granola and water in my room and a fine spread of breakfast options in the kitchen downstairs. I would without a doubt stay with him again.

  • I've stayed at Dow's a few times and it's always been a perfectly pleasant stay.
His place has a great atmosphere to relax after a hard day's work and recharge.
    Dow is an excelent host.
    Highly recommended!

  • I stayed with Dow for 10 days while receiving treatment at MD Anderson. He was a wonderful and thoughtful host, showing genuine concern for my comfort, and helping me out with local info and tips to help me get around easier. His place is only 3 miles away from the medical center, a straight shot down Bellaire/Holcombe, making driving easy. Even better, Metro bus #68 stops less than a block from his place and dropped me directly in front of the medical center. For access to downtown and other routes, it also stops at the TMC transit center, which gives you access to the rest of the city.

The room was extremely comfortable and peaceful, with plenty of space to stash my things. Dow is a great conversationalist, but also respected the times I just needed rest and quiet. He provided full kitchen access, and my first day there went out of his way to share some homemade chicken soup, which hit the spot. There is a nice pool on premises which I did not use, and a clean coin laundry on site which I did use. There was never a problem finding parking on the street, and his place is located in a peaceful residential neighborhood which seems to be undergoing renewal, with a number of new large homes being built in the area. It was nice to take walks on the quiet tree-lined streets.

Dow's place is also a short walk from shopping and dining. Within walking distance is a CVS pharmacy, Whole Foods market, Starbucks coffee, and a number of restaurants including sushi, Mexican, Thai, American, and Chinese.

I travel and host to hopefully grow, learn, explore, experience, and enjoy life, the amazing world we live in, and the unique people who fill it. I'm single, semi retired, father of two; college educated, but world wise; easy going, but dependable. I enjoy iPhone photography, tinkering with furniture, messing around with my plants, swimming, going junking , architectural curiosity, and trying to eat and live healthier, I've traveled a lot over the last seventy years, and never tire of the exhilaration and excitement of visiting new places. I've visited in North America, Central America, South America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. Each place that I've been fortunate enough to visit has left an impression of one kind or another, and I've tried to incorporate those impressions into the overall experience of staying at my place. Basically just good ol' Texas hospitality with a twang. I have a great collection of modern art, folk art, primitives, mid century modern, art deco, depression era, and just interesting and unusual things I've found over the years. Throw in my green thumb, and you'll come up with my always evolving and changing interpretation of what I consider a cool place to live and hang out! It's home for me, and I'll do my best to make it yours' while you're here. I hope you'll enjoy it.
