Interaction with Guests
We meet guests at check in/out. We do live next door so we are nearby if you need us - but otherwise we leave you to your vacation.
Onset Village is an old-fashioned sea-side community with more of a low-key atmosphere than a high charged party vacation site.
Onset's Victorian roots are evident in the gingerbread cottages and architecture throughout the village. A self-guided walking tour will show you all the main historical spots throughout the village.
Local Native American tribes summered here long before being developed as a spiritualist community late 1800s. It retains its mystical heritage via psychic fairs, medium services at the On-i-set Wigwam (built by the founders of the Village in the 1800s). Rumor has it that Wickets Island is a Native American burial ground and that it served as a staging point for shipping illegal booze during prohibition. The island is for sale, and with a quick kayak or boat ride you can take a look for yourself.
Onset Village is surrounded by water and beaches on all sides. Walk to grocer, cafes restaurants and village bandstand which hosts free weekly events such as movies and concerts, car shows, blues and jazz festivals.
Great walking, biking, running spot.
Families love the quick access to Water Wizz (a water park featured in the movies "Grown Ups" and "The Way Way Back"), go-karts, mini golf, and movie theater, local theatrical play house, and shopping mall. For the more adventurous there are kayak, motor boat, and diving equipment rentals, a canal cruise, and a day fishing tour boat within walking distance.
Several public 18-hole golf courses are nearby as well.
If you are planning on staying local and just going to the beach no driving necessary. Everything you need is in the little village center at the end of the street.
However our Jewel Box is a great jumping off point for traveling around Eastern Mass - 45 min from Boston & Newport, easy access to down cape locations like Woods Hole, Provincetown, Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket and Block Island Ferry.
We suggest you take the lunch or dinner train on the Cape Cod Central Railway for a gorgeous trip through cranberry bogs, sand dunes and cape sites that are not accessible to cars. This rail company also runs a train to Boston during the summer.
For something closer, spend the day rummaging along "Antique Alley" a 2-mile stretch of Route 6 (aka Cranberry Highway) @from Wareham to Buzzards Bay featuring close to 20 antique shops.
Or head to the Cape Cod Canal where there is a flat paved trail for a great bike, rollerblade, run, or just a nice breezy stroll.

We had a wonderful week here with everything we needed. The cottage is very bright & airy. The kitchen is well equipped and there are more than enough towels. The little touches like tissues and laundry soap were much appreciated and I didn't expect such a great supply of hot water. Theresa and Todd are very welcoming and responsive but not intrusive. This is a nice area, quiet neighborhood and very convenient both to the beach and the Cape.
We stayed here with our two year old daughter for a week and had a fantastic time. Theresa and Todd were wonderful hosts and they are both friendly and helpful. They gave us great suggestions on where to go and cool things that were happening in town. They are right next door if you need them for anything but they give you your space during your stay. The cottage is awesome- clean, cozy, and comfortable. It had everything we needed, was well organized, and tastefully decorated. It was all that we had hoped for and we really enjoyed having the beach right across the street and being so close to the Cape. It was also very nice to be able to take a short walk to the pizza place, ice cream, and candy store. Restaurants, coffee, and convenient stores are right there too. We really liked the playground nearby and seeing all the boats in the harbor too. We would definitely recommend this to our friends and would love to come back.
Very easy to find. Perfect size for a family of two adults and two kids. The pull out beds were really comfortable for the kids. Everything well thought out and found the washing machine and dryer very useful. Kitchen was well kitted out. Lovely outdoor deck and used the barbecue. Just a few steps to the beach. In all our trips around Cape Cod we liked out beach the best. Giant tasty pizzas from Marc Anthony's 100 yards away. We would highly recommend
Such a lovely place, everything was perfect. The house is very well organized and equipped. We appreciate a lot being few steps from the beach and from the shops. It was very adapted with our 3 and 6 year's old daughters. Theresa is very nice and helpfull. We will definitely go back.
This is review from my husband:
We, two adults and two little kids, stayed there for a week. The space is slightly tight for four but well-organized. Everything is functional, some appliances are newly installed. Not exactly a luxurious place but all the basics are covered. The best feature is location: just across the road from the main beach and very close to a more secluded and quiet beach favored by locals. Restaurants and shops are with an easy walking distance. Wonderful sandy beaches with spectacular view and no high waves. Much easier and faster to get to from Boston than Cape Cod proper.
Theresa and Todd were great hosts; there when we needed them, but gave us our own space. The cottage is adorable, not large but exactly what we needed as a base to explore the Cape. The kitchen was well equipped and we made some nice meals in there. Having the beach right across the street was fantastic. Bed linens and towel were abundant and I have never stayed in a cottage with such great water pressure. Would love to return here one day.
My two-week stay at the Jewel box cottage in Onset, Massachusetts was FABULOUS! The cottage is cozy and bright. Although, the owners are right next door and available for help or questions, the cottage is very private. The most spectacular feature is the outdoor deck which provides a cool and shady spot to enjoy an afternoon breeze. The cottage is just steps away from Onset Beach which is picturesque and well-maintained. Even on the hottest days of my stay, the beach was not too crowded or loud. There you can rent a kayak or take an evening boat tour of the Cape Cod Canal. The village of Onset is a short walk away. It is sweet and quaint with a laid-back vibe. During my stay, I enjoyed a free concert in the park, as well as an antique car show. Other features included Marc Anthony's Restaurant where the hand-tossed pizza menu even includes a Lobtsah-Pizza and local favorites such as Kale Soup and Clam Cakes. Right next door, dessert awaits at Nana's Ice cream and Candy Shop. Many thanks to Todd and Theresa for providing a safe, comfortable space for us to enjoy this special vacation. We are sure to return!

Hello! Todd and I are both from Boston but moved to Onset about 5 years ago. Since then we have renovated the "Jewel Box" cottage and are now working on the main home next door - our work in progress.
We enjoy traveling and look forward to our next adventure. But until then we are satisfied with meeting those who make our cottage their temporary home.
We are near if you need anything but otherwise we leave you to enjoy your vacation. We have tried to provide everything you need to make your time here enjoyable.
