Great for those seeking a getaway with a country vibe but centralized enough to reach the local town and attractions.
Our house is walking distance to Rosendale, a small eclectic town in the Hudson Valley 1.5 hours from New York City.
Our house is walking distance to the town of Rosendale, a small eclectic town in the Hudson Valley 1.5 hours from New York City.
A single family home, the house is about a 10 minute walk from the Main street area center of town but has the feeling of being deep in the woods as the back of the house faces out to private forest.
Get your good dose of small town life with deep green forest relaxation all around. Steps out the door connects to extensive path of established running, walking, and hiking trails on the Wallkill Valley Rail Trail path.
Renters have the the whole house to themselves (sleeps 4).
There is one large attic bedroom with a queen size bed that sleeps two, and a smaller guest room on the second floor that has two single beds (one is a pop-up trundle bed).
The house is situated on three floors. Main floor has an open kitchen, dining area, propane woodstove, and cozy couch seating area and a small half bathroom.
Second floor is an open living room, skylighted office (the perfect place to work remotely with tree views out of every window and a door right out to the deck), guest bedroom, and full bathroom and the entrance off to the outside deck.
The converted attic serves as the second sleeping area. Please note, there is no door for the attic room it is at the top of an open staircase.
There is WIFI throughout the house including on the deck and basic cable tv.
What to do in the area:
The Town - Rosendale is a blink and you can miss it gem of a town. Famous for it's community owned independent movie theater, and annual pickle festival it's a quaint and quirky town with three restaurants, a bar, a bakery, cheese shop/ thrift store (we mentioned the town was quirky, right?), and a hotel.
Cycling- There is a bike rental shop right in town that rents bikes. Our house comes with two road bikes which are fine for pedaling into town but for serious trail riding you will want a serious bike.
Walking, Biking, Running - only a few minutes from the house there is access to the Rail Trail, and extensive path on the former train tracks that is now cleared for walkers, horseback riders, and cyclists.
Hiking & Rock climbing - 15 to 20 minutes by car to the extensive Mohonk Preserve and famous Shwangunk mountains for hiking, epic views, mountain biking, and bouldering/ climbing.
Pilates/ Yoga- We have a little pilates studio about one block from our house and a wonderful yoga studio in the nearby town of Stone Ridge.
We give a list of our favorite markets, shops, yoga studies, hikes, and actives and gladly research and recommend specific inquiries.
Guests arriving after check in and before night time hours are greeted personally or if after hours are left instructions to arrival. We are extremely hands-off preferring to make recommendations, etc in advance of the stay.
Eclectic artsy vibe with a serious slant towards the outdoors without losing its dedication to arts, health, community, and culture.
The New York City Trailways bus line drops off .75 miles from our front door.
Bikes can be easily rented.
The town of Rosendale is 10 mins walking to the house.
My daughter and I enjoyed our stay very much. The house felt very spacious--offering different atmospheres on each of the three floors--and at the same time warm and cozy, with beautiful sculptures and photos brought back from travels. The picture window in the big bedroom at the top was my daughter's favorite, while I also really loved the downstairs living room for studying and reading, and the practical open kitchen. Another important plus for me was that there was not a trace of mustiness even on a wet day. As for the town of Rosendale, we're regulars there (coming up on weekends, from the city) and love it, for many reasons.
Laura and Rachel were easy to work from the outset. We found their home to be a very comfy-cozy house, with excellent light in October, in the woods, and close to many Hudson Valley tourist attractions. It was well equipped to meet all of our lodging needs.
Rosendale itself is a charming tiny town in a central tourist location, with some interesting shops and restaurants.
Although our stay was short, the home and area were wonderful and exactly what we needed. Laura and Rachel were nothing but accommodating, and I would recommend staying at their lovely home to anyone.
Laura and Rachel's place was everything we wanted for a cozy weekend retreat to go frolicking in the foliage. The house is lovely, light, colorful and very homey feeling. I appreciated the extensive library, especially all the books by Pema Chodron and Mary Oliver!
Everything was cleaned and well cared for. Laura is a gem, she opened up the house for us and greeted us. We had the place to ourselves and loved our stay. We would definitely return!
We are thankful to Laura and Rachel for letting us rent their place. It had everything we needed and more. We spent most of the day outside, rock climbing, in the area. Returning to the house for a warm shower was just awesome. The beds were pretty comfortable too. It was very close to Rosendale and New Paltz which have good places to eat. Laura & Rachel were great hosts, always making sure we were comfortable. I highly recommend this rental. It was superb!
I really enjoyed renting from Laura. She was quick to respond and was always so kind. She checked in a few times to make sure everything was ok and offered to help with anything. The house was also really nice. Very spacious and cozy with a lovely terrace surrounded by trees. We found everything we needed there and felt at home.
Laura and Rachel made our stay beyond easy and warm. Their house is incredibly comfortable, quiet, tucked in with the trees, and has everything to offer you can think up. The two of them were wonderfully accommodating, providing with directions to nearby restaurants, hiking destinations, and bakeries. Can't wait to stop back again!
Very easy to work with! Laura and Rachel were flexible to our check-in and check-out times. The house was exactly as described. We took the bus up to Rosendale from NYC ($23 one-way trip), and while the house was on the other side of town from the bus stop, it was within a 20 minute walk. We slept 4 comfortably and would definitely book again!
Thank you to Laura and Rachel ... extremely generous hosts who really did their best to make our stay comfortable and enjoyable.
Our stay at the house in Rosendale was all that we hoped for and then some. We had coffee on the terrace every morning, walks into town for lunch, bicycling on the Rail Trail and surrounding towns, and evenings at the local restaurants. The house was so cozy, immersed in nature, we never wanted to leave. It made for one of our best getaways ever.
