The historic Greensboro Barn was built in 1880. I have been in love with this barn my whole life. Over twenty years ago I decided to make it into my home, where I raised my family and have my studio and gallery. Located in the heart of Greensboro, the barn is just a half-mile from Caspian Lake. The space has it's own entrance with finished wood floors, deep set windows and unique live-edge, raw wood trim throughout. This is a quiet rural get away place with a weak wifi signal (not for live-streaming movies!) and spotty cell phone service, but you can use my landline. There is one large bedroom, and a kitchenette, dining, and living space with a full bathroom. The space is well insulated and heated with a beautiful, gas (wood style) stove. The kitchenette is equipped with a refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, coffee maker, electric tea kettle and crock pot.
Willey's Store, a well known old fashion general store, sells groceries, Jasper Cellars cheese, Hill Farmstead beer, gasoline and marks the center of Greensboro Village and is less than a mile away. Hill Farmstead Brewery is also just a few miles away. Hardwick, the center of the locavore movement is just 6 miles away featuring Claire's and Positive Pie restaurants that serve farm to table fare.
The barn is an inspiring agricultural cathedral, which has been lovingly restored over a 23 year period, and is surrounded with gardens and fruit trees. There are wonderful places nearby to walk, run, hike or bike; and just down my road is a beautiful 9 hole golf course and 7 red clay tennis courts. The pristine Caspian Lake, is the heart of the area and features great swimming, boating and fishing.
It's not every day that one gets to stay in a barn and experience a beautiful piece of paradise.
Staying at Jennifer's barn was the perfect end to our Vermont vacation. It was a very quick drive up to Hill Farmstead Brewery and we enjoyed being able to eat dinner at Positive Pie and Claire's in nearby Hardwick. It was well below zero during our time in Greensboro but the barn was warm and cozy thanks to the great gas stove. We had some car trouble in the cold weather and I really appreciated how nice Jennifer was to make sure that we were okay and knew where to find a car mechanic, etc. Her barn in Greensboro is truly special and we hope to be back!
What a peaceful place to rest and relax! Jennifer is a fantastic host who puts in the extra effort to make you feel warm and welcome. She was very helpful and knowledgeable about the area. The suite is private and well equipped. I would highly recommend this unique spot to anyone traveling in the Northeast Kingdom!
Jennifer was an AMAZING host! She was so accommodating and welcoming. The barn is truly a unique spot and so cozy in the cold weather. We will most definitely be back again!
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Greensboro Barn. Jennifer calls her beautiful barn an "agricultural cathedral", which is a perfect description of this wonderful space. When not hanging out in the cozy apartment or exploring the Northeast Kingdom, we played ping pong in the barn or bundled up in blankets and sat out by the barn door enjoying the view of the mountains and sipping our coffee. Jennifer was a generous and thoughtful hostess, we will definitely return to this special place some day.
This barn is a real treasure! The space is beautiful and remote. Enough quiet to think in, but still a short drive from a few restaurants and general stores. Jennifer was very accommodating and happy to answer questions and give suggestions for activities in the surrounding area. Very friendly. Be sure to enjoy your morning coffee in the barn's Adirondack chairs overlooking the field and hills behind the barn! Thanks for a great stay, Jennifer!
The barn was beyond charming! And thanks to Jennifer for being such a gracious host. I would definitely go back.
Wonderful barn, scenery, apartment! I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at Jennifer's historic barn. It is the perfect small accommodations, complete with beds, living space, kitchen and bathroom amenities. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone.
The barn is beautiful, Jennifer was very helpful, and the apartment was very comfortable. Highly recommended.
My wife and I had a wonderful four-night stay at the Greensboro Barn in July. It is a beautiful and peaceful setting (with little cell phone service - a good thing!) which made it easy for us to disconnect from everyday worries - exactly the kind of place we were looking for! If you must have fast wi-fi, take the mile walk down to Greensboro village and use the lovely Greensboro Free Library. While you're in town, be sure to check out the fantastic Willey's Store - a true general store with food, clothing, hardware and merchandise of all sorts crammed into a seemingly never-ending series of rooms!
Jennifer is a thoughtful and generous host who let us supplement our meals with some fresh vegetables from her garden. She is very knowledgeable about the community and the region and provided us with some great suggestions for dining in the area. We also took advantage of her suggestion to cool off with a swim in nearby Caspian Lake.
I hope that we'll have an opportunity to return to the Barn one of this winter so that we can take advantage of all the cross-country skiing in the area!
Our stay in The Historic Barn of Greensboro was just what we needed. If you like quiet pastoral scenery, Good country hospitality and a place to collect and Re-Energize than this may be the Place to visit. I know that we will return.
Thank You Jenn!
