About this listing

Equi-distant from downtown Charlottesville and Shenandoah National Park, we offer a perfect balance of city and country. When you're not hiking or soaking up culture, rest easy in your suite with its king bed, overstuffed couch, and private bathroom!

The space

Enjoy our cozy den-like guest room with its fireplace, books, king bed, and completely private bathroom with bath/shower. We're in a peaceful semi-rural neighborhood outside of Charlottesville: 10 minutes to UVA, 20 minutes to historic downtown, 20 minutes to Shenandoah National Park (to the west) or Monticello (to the east). There is no public transit to our neighborhood, but there is good taxi service. We have broadband internet that usually works fine for Netflix.

This is a great location for folks who like some green space. We're convenient not only to Charlottesville, but also to scenic western Albemarle County. Hikers, runners and cyclists are particularly fond of this part of the county.

We are early risers (7:00 AM), and though we're not loud you should expect some normal noise in the morning. Your room adjoins our kitchen and living area.

If we're available in the morning we will make coffee or tea to your liking. You can also make your own morning beverages. We don't offer meals, but you are welcome to store some food in our fridge and to use the kitchen for light food preparation. We are open to discussing full kitchen use for guests who are staying more than 2 nights.

Other details:

We have a dog, Maeve, who may bark when you first arrive. She switches quickly to wanting to be petted.

There are no nightstands by the bed, but there are lights on each side. The room has a writing nook, chest of drawers, and a coat rack on which you can hang your finery.

Our neighborhood is middle class, semi-rural, and quiet. Your room has views of a funky rustic house down the lane, lots of trees, and mountains.

We are friendly and welcoming, and will see that you have what you need for a comfortable and pleasurable stay. And we're busy with work and all the rest, so we won't be in your way!

John and Maggie were the most gracious Airbnb I've stay on this far. They go above and beyond making guests feel like they're at home ;)

John and Maggie's house was easy to find and exactly as outlined in their description. Tidy, very relaxed and exactly what I had expected, except that John and Maggie were nicer.

John and Maggie were excellent hosts and went out of their way to make sure we found our way to their home. Directions to their home were clear and although John was on travel, he stayed in contact with us until he knew we could find their home. We had pleasant conversations with Maggie learning about her activities. We found their home to be very clean and comfortable; the bed is very comfortable to sleep on. The suite with its own bath is nicely separated from the rest of their home. Their home is a few miles west of Charlottesville, but the drive is very easy and traffic is not a problem. The home is set on a hillside up a narrow private lane with nice views. We had a very pleasant stay at John and Maggie's.

We stayed for about a week and loved it! John and Maggie are excellent hosts and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them. The accommodations are very comfortable, and it's in a great semi-rural area with easy access to Charlottesville and tourist activities in Albermarle and Nelson counties. We highly recommend staying here!

Very pretty room and view out of the windows. So nice to have a bathroom right off the room and not to have to walk down a hall or share one. Satin sheets!

Response from Maggie And John:
Thanks for appreciating our space, Karen. The sheets aren't satin, but they're high quality and we glad you liked them! Hope we see you again sometime.

We are friendly hosts. We'll see to your comfort and we'll share our picks of the best of Charlottesville and central Virginia. And we're busy with work and life, so we won't be in your way!

We enjoy all kinds of music. John plays Appalachian fiddle tunes on harmonica and likes to read, meditate, and dance. Maggie enjoys reading and writing fiction. John is from California, Maggie is from Dublin, and we are grateful for the rewards and challenges of a cross-cultural marriage!
