The flat was perfect!! Located within a really calm and nice residence, it was the best we could have found!
The flat was cosy and clean, spacious and practical! Although we didn't meet Aicha personally she was very accommodating and arrange everything to pick up and leave the keys, and also recommended us a taxi driver who drove us from and to the airport and also during our stay drove us to the beach!
Our stay was amazing thank you!
Merci.
We stayed in Aicha's terrace apartment for a week, and really enjoyed it. It was clean, and fully equipped with everything we needed for our stay. It's situated in a private gated development, with a very quiet neighbourhood, a well kept garden of tropical and mediterranean flora, and swimming pool. Although Aicha was not there in person, she was very supportive online before and for the whole time of booking. Unfortunately the place lacks of local amenities, as in, the only restaurant nearby was closed due to some events during our stay, and the only local grocery store we could find is in the neighbouring development (River Palm) which is approx 15 minutes on foot. The development is located approx 10 kilometers from the city centre, which didn't seem that far on a map, but in reality its well outside the city, and when you step outside of the gates it looks quite deserted. At first it was scary in terms of transport, but we were pleasantly surprised when we learned how many options we have to get into the city.
Either way, first its a 10 minute walk to the main road leading to Marrakech (from Casablanca). Then you have to wait right next to the junction. If you don't care about the money or you have no problem with haggling then you are advised to flag a taxi. (They will try to charge you a flat rate of 100-150 dirhams first. When we were trying to haggle we couldn't go below 60 dirhams. One time however, we managed to ask the driver to use the meter, and guess what: We had to pay 30 dirhams!). Taxis pass by every 5 minutes or so. Your other option is to wait for bus 37. Frequency of the service is 30-45 minutes. A single ticket to the city costs 10 dirhams. And finally, your last option (not for the faint-hearted) is to hop on board of a passenger van unofficially ran by individuals. They will stop when they see people waiting next to the junction and offer to take you to the city for 3 dirhams!!! It might sound a bit scary, but don't worry, its safe. Many locals are using their service. Alternatively you can opt for renting a car, but after we saw the moroccan way of driving, we quickly dropped the idea. On a final note we had some outage issues with the mobile internet connection, but this is not Aicha's fault in any ways. I presume broadband can't be installed, and the service of Maroc Telecom is just plain poor, nothing can be done about it. All in all, we had a very pleasant stay. If we decided to visit Marrakech again, we would definitely book Aicha's apartment again.
Very nice host with a lovely place! The apartment was perfect for two, the neighborhood is within walking distance of two grocery stores.
I stayed here with my boyfriend vor 8 days. The apartment is nicely decorated and the view from the windows, terrace is really tropical. The atmosphere is relaxing, quiet; you only hear the birds sing during the day and at night the crickets. For us it was perfect to combine busy Marrakech centre with relaxation. Downside is that cap fare is not cheap from there, you should count on 150 dirham (15 euro’s) one way, unless you are a really good negatiater it could be between 50-100 Dirham I understood from Aicha. However we found out that you can take the bus as well. You should ask Aicha about the bus stop. Bus 36 goes to the center near Plaza Jamaah el Fna and bus 37 goes to Jardin de Jamoreille. Then it will only cost you one or two euros and for us we really liked to take the bus because something was always happening. Because the lady that did our check-in, Nezha, out didn't speak English our communication was difficult. Ofcourse when you arrive you have all sorts of questions. Aicha mediated on the phone, but it would also be a good idea if some detailed information on paper in the apartment in various languages about this for example, but also about supermarkets etc. Also it is good to know that Le Palmeraie is a quit luxourious area with for example Nicky beach nearby, a jet-set thing where drinks go from 9 euro! For sure there are more options, but we stayed mostly at the apartment, garden, pool when we were not at the centre. Al with all it was a lovely experience and Aicha is really nice and helped out (with our communication barrier) where she could. I have three minor points of attention: the shower holder is broken so you have to hold the shower head in your hand all the time, which is very unpractical. The internet is really slow, so if you are dependent on internet for work, you cannot work with it. And thirdly, with the check-out Nezha came twice to early. It bothered me a bit that after knocking she directly came in with her own key, while we were sunbathing on the terrace and not fully dressed. Of course she meant well, but I would have preferred that she wouldn't come in with her own key (or not so quickly at least). Al with all, I definitely advice this apartment!
My girlfriend and I stayed in Aicha's apartment for one month, and had a very good experience. Aicha is very kind and accommodating, and while she does not live near the property, she certainly did what she could to help us as things came up. And when we asked to stay another few days, she allowed us with no problem.
The apartment is just as pictured, and was clean upon arrival. All appliances are modern, including bathroom. The terrace is very nice, and the surroundings are certainly quiet. The area just beyond the palms has a sort of beautiful-yet-deserted feel, sort of like a dystopian paradise.
While our experience was positive, we would just caution the following two points:
- Taxis: The apartment is located just outside the city line, and a roughly 15 minute drive to the Medina (centre of town). If you do not have a car, this means that you will have to negotiate for taxis, and they will generally begin negotiations around 100dh ($10) from the Medina, which is a rip-off. Thus, you will have to negotiate a lot, which can be tiring. Of course if you have a car, then this is not a problem for you.
- Wifi: We did have serious problems with the internet upon moving in, but the wifi should now be working fine (albeit not as fast as in the States). It's a USB modem/dongle you plug into your laptop.
Lastly, we'd just note that in our opinion, the best thing about Marrakech is in fact the things it's close to: Toubkal Park, Essaouira, and Erg Chigaga. We had beautiful excursions to these places.
Thank you Aicha for allowing us to stay! We had wonderful adventures here.
Merci !
