Our stay at the house was great. Some of the previous comments concerned us, but we gave it a shot anyway and turned out to be one of the best parts of our trip.
It's important for future renters to know where the breaker box is located and how the water pump works. The lights went out one of the nights, but was easily fixed by flipping the breakers.
The monkey visits to the house made the stay a lot of fun and the hanging out on the porch added to the charm of the house. I would stay again and recommend to anyone.
The house was a short walk from the beach and a few minutes from the town. The host was very friendly, accessible and offered us local information.
We had a fantastic week staying at Cassandra House over New Years 2015. The monkeys and other wildlife were very entertaining, and the house is located for an easy walk to all Montezuma has to offer. Our family of four loved simply hanging out in the hammocks, listening to the ocean. Unfortunately, we did experience a robbery during our visit. We were very careful to lock the house and close the windows every time we left, but some money was taken during one of our trips out. We don't know exactly when or how this happened.
The location was fantastic, and our host was extremely helpful, showing us all the features of the house and helping us get settled in. The house's main selling points are the giant downstairs patio (really an outdoor living room) and gorgeous upstairs deck. Unfortunately the interior leaves a bit to be desired, especially in the rainy season when it was clear it had been closed up for a while. The rooms were musty and claustrophobic and the layout of the bathroom is a pretty bizarre. Looking back at the listing, the TV is essentially non-functional, the Argentinean oven didn't appear to have been used in years, the parking was really for a 4x4 only, and the hot water in the bathroom was an electric shower head we didn't dare to use. The big negative for us was a massive infestation of flying ants that emerged in our bedroom just before our departure, but to Lucy's credit she personally called us to apologize when she found out about it - and I can't imagine that's a regular occurrence.
Set your expectations to rustic and funky and you'll love it.
This is possibly the best possible way to experience montezuma. It is just a short little walk up the hill over the main swimming beach area down town so you are close bit don't have to deal with noise. Plus, the house can comfortably house five people and has an up stairs wrap around deck overlooking the ocean. We saw monkeys everyday as well as other wild life right in front of our decks. You sort of get both the jungle experience as well as the beach experience at once. Definitely worth the money and the most perfect for a quite couple get away or family to stay. We cooked a lot in the kitchen which has all you need in the way of tools. Lucy and her family own the property and she owns and runs hotel Lucy which is down the main road. She was extremely helpful in information and arranged a shuttle to take us to mal pais/Santa Teresa area that picked us up right in front of hotel Lucy. We were able to chill in the hammocks and sitting are on the beach while we waited. We felt very lucky to have found this perfect place and wonderful soul(Lucy).
We had an amazing time at the Kassandra House. The house is located within a short walking distance of everything Montezuma has to offer. The views of the ocean from the upstairs balcony were superb. And there is an abundance of wildlife. We were 5 girls and we were very comfortable and had plenty of space. Lucy was an excellent host and connected us with Peter for ATV rentals which we had for the entire duration and she works closely with Zuma tours for speed boat service from Jaco and even taxi service to the airport if needed.
We were extremely happy with the Kassandra House. The outdoor living space was terrific. We enjoyed the monkeys who visited us twice a day. The house was very spacious and clean. Lucy and Tito were very nice and helpful. The driveway up the hill was a challenge, but we had 4 wheel drive and walking up it was just part of the adventure. Montezuma beach has a lot of trash and cigarette butts in the sand, but if you walk to the beaches just north or south they are much cleaner and less crowded.
