About this listing
Hello to An Tionól Cottage. We are a family of 4 people who have been building and reclaiming an old Irish stone cottage for the past 11 years. We grow a lot of our own food and love the richness and simplicity of living in nature.
This is a traditional irish cottage in the west of Ireland near Gort town. Surrounded by lakes, natural forest and close to Galway, the Burren, Kinvara, Cliffts of Moher, east clare, and Ennis. It is the perfect location as a base for your holidays in the west of Ireland.
We offer a luxurious wooden cabin with own outdoor bathroom.
You are welcome to use toilet facilities also in the main house. We can offer a healthy breakfast for 5 euro more per person. Other meals can also be arrange with time. We eat mostly organic, local and own produced food as possible.
At the Cottage we are a family of 4 with a small organic farm and some animals.
We also have our own family business with guests who come here for an english and community experience in an intercultural setting and we also host residential workshop weekends.
This is a unique opportunity to experience a community and family environment while you are visiting Ireland.
We will support you with any information and tourist attractions you might want to visit. Also with those hidden places that are as worthwhile visiting as those that are in all the guides.
Wifi in the main house at breakfast time.
Interaction with Guests
We enjoy having people around and love to share our cottage and lifestyle with our guests.
An Tionól cottage and its surroundings are magical. You can find native woodland, lakes and small little roads that give you the opportunity to go for walks in a very charming Irish countryside landscape.
Other Things to Note
We have a converted barn that we like sharing with friends and guests for Meditation, yoga, Qi Gong or similar practices. If you practice meditation there is a prepared space for it.
At An Tionól Cottage we create a peaceful environment and love the beauty in the small things.
It was a real adventure to stay at Martas Cottage. The wodden cabins refers to a mixture of a hostel and camping ground. However, those cabins were tidely and charming and you can see everywhere the lovely little details which smartened up the Cottage. Only the shower outdoors and the chemical toilettes were a challenge in itself (because it was a bit cold in the morning time).
I really would like to highlight the breakfast. It was so great!
Thank you for everything Marta!
We stayed for two nights to explore Galway and the area around the Burren.
Marta, Nick and the kids are lovely and helpful. They live in a little community on a charming property and there are wooden cabins for guests. We loved the bunk beds :)
We enjoyed our time at An Tionol. Everybody was very nice and breakfast was delicious.
What an amazing experience we had here! Nick and Marta made us feel very welcome and gave us great ideas on where to experience true Ireland adventures. Marta created morning breakfasts that were varietal and healthy. I even joined in on an impromptu international meditation group one morning. Another night we joined in a campfire gathering of music with neighbors and friends. I must say that you must be willing to drive out into the country to stay here but well worth the effort and it is centrally located to experience alot of the main tourist destinations. This was a once in a lifetime experience for my husband and I that I will hold close to my heart...:-)!!!
I had wonderful days at Marta's and Nick's lovely cottage. I got an amazing breakfast (both, the healthy and the Irish one), was invited to spend the evenings with them and felt like being part of the family. The location is perfect if you are looking for a quiet and relaxing place. I loved the atmosphere there, it's quite hard to explain so I'd recommend to go there and see and feel yourself. Thanks a lot for everything! I hope I'll come back sometime soon! Lots of love, Diana
Nick was very nice, and made us feel very welcome! We recommend this place for anyone who likes the outdoors. Nick also made us very yummy breakfast! Thank you!

Nick and Marta are a couple from Spain and ireland. We have two children and live in a small organic farm. We are interested in education and in creativity always finding ways of self expression and personal development, and creating sustainability organically, and at our own rythm.
We are very easy going and we both are interested in sharing spaces and learning from each other. We like life music and sometimes we offer live music sessions at our cottage.
