A beautiful self-contained unit located close to the heart of the city. You can have your privacy and freedom while still being in close contact with a local family. We provide breakfast, tea, coffee, wifi and 2 bicycles free of charge.

The Space

It's hard to believe that the tropical forest that is literally out the back door, is only walking distance from the city!

With lush rainforests, big rivers and the Great Barrier Reef just off the coast, Cairns is close to some of the most beautiful parts of the Great Barrier Reef.

The Apartment
This self-contained unit is under our Queenslander Blue House. It (email hidden) to be while visiting Cairns because it is close to the city but (email hidden), forest back garden.

Complete with your own kitchen, toilet and shower - this unit has air-conditioning, shared plunge pool, DVD player, and free wifi internet access. The laundry is shared. The unit is well equipped and best suited to a couple or family. The bathroom is quite small, and only has a curtain on the door so best for people that know each other well. The sofa bed is a click-clack style, double bed - but again probably best suited to one additional person. The kitchen is well stocked and includes a two burner electric stove and a small oven/grill. The bedroom has a queen sized bed. We also have various baby equipment available, including a porta-cot and high chair.

Our house is in a residential neighbourhood where you can walk to the city in about 20 minutes. We use bikes to get around as it is nice and flat with some great pathways. We like to live in an eco-friendly manner and our house is in a tropical forest setting. We keep the place neat and clean, but if you're chasing hotel-grade sterile surroundings, this unit may not suit you.

Your Hosts
We are a really easy going, fun couple with a 3y/o son. We have been renting this unit for over 5 years to long-term tenants, and 1 year on AirBNB - so we are good at respecting your privacy, while being friendly and helpful. See the latest on visitors and find out more about the house at (website hidden) /cairnsbluehouse. If you want convenience and amenity with a friendly family atmosphere, this is the unit for you.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Tania's place is awesome if you want to enjoy Cairns without the noise of staying right downtown. Their house is an easy bike ride into town-I practically took a different route each time. If you enjoy tropical islands, I highly recommend taking the ferry to Fitzroy Island for the day or an overnight!

  • Very nice family and everything how it is described. Location is ok and with the provided bike it is quiet easy to go to the main parts of Cairns.

  • Tania was very friendly and helpful

  • Great little spot! Exactly what the brief suggests, basic and efficient but has everything you need!

Just a 20 minute walk to Cairns centre, bikes also available which are very handy.

Both Tania and Rob were very helpful, any questions or problems we had they were very quick to sort it or advise us.

  • Tania was friendly. As other reviewers have commented, there were a lot of mosquitos so I killed them all in the bedroom and kept the door shut. We were there too short to really comment on the facilities but it was a clean (but not new feeling) unit.

  • We stayed at Tania's place for a few nights. Lovely place which has everything you need. There are two free bikes for use, which we used to go to Crystal Cascades, a perfect day trip! Also just a few minutes to the City Centre! Tania was really nice as well! Thank you very much for having us!

  • Meeting new friends is one of the pleasures of travel. After spending a day with Tania, Rob and Chad (as well as one of their neighbors) I knew I found some new friends! Their place is comfortable if not the Ritz. I enjoyed my stay!

  • Tania was very kind and welcomed us very late in the evening, we borrowed her bicycles so it was perfect to reach the city! The apartment was very large and (email hidden) to stay for few days!

  • Rob & Tania are lovely, friendly and helpful.

To make sure you enjoy their place, you need to understand a few things before you go.

    1. Their place is more bohemian than boutique which we liked
    2. They have a small child and small children like to wake up early and run from one side of the house to then next, not an issue to us, but if that would bother you then you probably shouldn't stay with a family.
    3. Mosquitos. Hey, you're in the tropics, there are a lot of mosquitos. Put on plenty of repellant. Don't be idiots like us and burn a mosquito coil indoors (sorry guys, we felt very silly for doing this)

Overall we had a great stay, the accommodation is big and it has everything you need, and I'd happily stay there again.

    Response from Tania:

In the whole 18 months we have been with AirBNB, no-one has ever mentioned noise from above. I can only think that it disturbed you guys earlier than usual because we had a bed-wetting incident during your stay. Sorry that we woke you.

Yes - those pesky mosquitoes. They are really, really bad at the moment. We have had late rain. But, there is mesh on all the windows so they do not get inside really, just carry you away in the garden as you come in and go out. We are now stocking two types of spray in the unit to help (website hidden) wishes, Tania.

  • Tania was an excellent host! We had a very tight schedule and did not manage to speak to much, but we felt very welcome at our arrival. Nice and clean flat! The walk from the city to Tania's place is quite a distance; to our surprise Tania helped us with 2 fabulous bikes which made lives so much easier for us :) Thanks again!

Long-term Cairns residents, we make the most of the tropical lifestyle. Riding our bikes or skateboards most places, we love living close the city and work. Our family is me (Tania), my husband (Rob) and our 3 year old son (Chad). We're really active in the Community and you can often find us volunteering at the local food co-operative, on an environmental bike tour or just chilling out on the back deck drinking coffee.
