About This Listing
A beautiful self-contained unit located close to the heart of the city. You can have your privacy and freedom while still being in close contact with a local family. We provide breakfast, tea, coffee, wifi and 2 bicycles free of charge.
It's hard to believe that the tropical forest that is literally out the back door, is only walking distance from the city!
With lush rainforests, big rivers and the Great Barrier Reef just off the coast, Cairns is close to some of the most beautiful parts of the Great Barrier Reef.
This self-contained unit is under our Queenslander Blue House. It is a nice place to be while visiting Cairns because it is close to the city but with a very green, forest back garden.
Complete with your own kitchen, toilet and shower - this unit has air-conditioning, shared plunge pool, DVD player, and free wifi internet access. The laundry is shared. The unit is well equipped and best suited to a couple or family. The bathroom is quite small, and only has a curtain on the door so best for people that know each other well. The sofa bed is a click-clack style, double bed - but again probably best suited to one additional person. The kitchen is well stocked and includes a two burner electric stove and a small oven/grill. The bedroom has a queen sized bed. We also have various baby equipment available, including a porta-cot and high chair.
Our house is in a residential neighbourhood where you can walk to the city in about 20 minutes. We use bikes to get around as it is nice and flat with some great pathways. We like to live in an eco-friendly manner and our house is in a tropical forest setting. We keep the place neat and clean, but if you're chasing hotel-grade sterile surroundings, this unit may not suit you.
We are a really easy going, fun couple with a 3y/o son. We have been renting this unit for over 5 years to long-term tenants, and 1 year on AirBNB - so we are good at respecting your privacy, while being friendly and helpful. Interaction with Guests
We are able to provide complete privacy to our guests, however we are only a stair case away. If you would like a chat or need some information, all you need to do is come upstairs and knock on the door.
Our house is located in the most beautiful natural setting, while only being walking distance to town. The back garden features the a conservation area with paperbark and palm tree forests. You can walk to all tours and facilities, but it's a bit faster on the bikes.
A taxi from the airport is best, however the shuttle bus has been know to drop guests at our doorstep. A few blocks from our house is the bus stop to catch buses into the city. Otherwise, most guests walk or use the bicycles.
We want you to have a really enjoyable stay. The unit is underneath our high-set queenslander house. So, we'll be around for a chat and some advice on the best things to do in Cairns. None of us smoke and we would like it if you did not smoke on the property either. We also have a young child, so would request that loud parties are finished by midnight. Other than that, come and go as you please - enjoy the house and the beautiful city.
The ground-floor unit we rented as "The Blue House" was as described, with all the expected amenities and some nice extras, including a surprisingly large range of complimentary breakfast cereals. Having a working washing machine on site was extremely convenient as we had been traveling for a while and really needed to do a couple loads of wash.
Our hosts were warm and welcoming when we arrived, and made us feel at home immediately. The night before we left, Rob went out of his way to help us by printing our electronic check-in tickets for our early morning flight.
This is not a fancy rental; the accommodations, while functional, are quite basic and plain. If you're looking for luxury, this isn't for you, but it would be ideal for somebody on a budget who is looking for a clean, convenient and very affordable place to stay.
Tania and her kids were very welcoming. Her niece even created an art work for us. Neighborhood was quiet and easy to get to the city via the use of the bikes provided. Would definitely recommend this for the budget minded travelers, as long as one doesn't expect a 4 star hotel.
Breakfast options much appreciated, but the bikes made it the best.
This house is tucked away under the tropical trees. The downtown area and docks are walkable and bikes are also provided. Tania and her husband were very helpful. The kitchen was well stocked with utensils for our home cooked meals. Thanks for the breakfast cereals, milk, coffee and tea. We had a very nice time.
Tania and her family made us feel at home right from the beginning. Her elder son and her niece became good friends with my daughter, which made my stay really comfortable. Tania recommended really good local sight seeing, which I really enjoyed. The whole family was there to help me whenever I asked for help. Highly recommend staying in their cute house.
We arrived at Tania's home and she had left a nice note and the door open since they had to step out for a while. The accommodations were exactly as described. We loved meeting her, her husband and two boys. They made us feel very welcome and were able to give us recommendations on things to see and do in the area. They even provided bicycles so we could move around Cairns on wheels! Our stay gave us a true Queensland experience in The Blue House!
About the Host, Tania
Long-term Cairns residents, we make the most of the tropical lifestyle. Riding our bikes or skateboards most places, we love living close the city and work. Our family is me (Tania), my husband (Rob), our 4 year old son (Chad) and our new addition (Dexter). We're really active in the Community and you can often find us volunteering at the local food co-operative, on an environmental bike tour or just chilling out on the back deck drinking coffee.
