TROPICAL, SIMPLE AND AFFORDABLE!!
Hello and welcome to Brisbane!
My son, small dog and I have a large leafy Queenslander home in Cannon Hill with roomy private self contained accommodation for up to four people downstairs. Cannon Hill is 8kms from city centre. The space has 1 large bedroom with TV (double bed with brand new mattress topper) with own bathroom and separate toilet and separate secure entrance so you can come and go without any disruptions. Kitchenette/living room connected to outdoor undercover terrace. This room contains a sofa bed or fold out camp bed for extra guests.
Insect screens are installed on windows.
A very child friendly property, with a secure tall fence all around and a large trampoline available for use. Offstreet parking for one car is available if needed, (I will put my car out) but there is plenty of free parking in the street outside for car caravan, boat etc.
Cannon Hill is located approximately 8kms from the CBD or roughly 15 minutes to the city or 15 minutes out to Cleveland and other bayside areas. We are only 20 minutes by car / taxi from the airport. Very handy to access both the Sunshine and Gold Coasts on the Gateway Motorway.
There is a car rental office just around the corner!
Train: Cannon Hill Station on the Cleveland Line is 700 metres away.
Bus: Route 227 to and from City stops around the corner - 50 metres away- all timetables available.
Citycat Ferries: stop at Bulimba where there is a bus that comes to near our home. SEE TRANSPORT DETAILS.
Airport or train station pick up can be arranged (small charge) if really needed. All timetables available here.
Wireless internet available throughout house, and a small library for relaxing. Am working on a reference visitor information resource section but as a Brisbane person, I am able to provide good information regarding Brisbane's attractions. I have been a traveller so have a good understanding of visitor needs and will be delighted to share whatever I have in my head over a cup of coffee (or something more grown up) on the big back deck upstairs.
It is simple, clean and contemporary - a good space to relax after a long business day, conference, student stay or visit to Brisbane. There are leafy options for outdoor eating relaxing in the simple undercover area or in the bamboo garden.
New modern kitchenette within the living area with:
Induction cooktop, microwave, electric frypan and skillet, toaster, electric kettle, flat bed griller (upon request) and refrigerator as well as tea and coffee making facilities, plates, cutlery for simple independent self catering.
Pedestal fan, IPOD dock, large flat screen TV, iron and ironing board, large work table/ desk, plenty of wardrobe space and tallboy for clothes.
BBQ is available for outdoor cooking day and night, if you want the real Queenslander experience.
Shared front load washing machine and drying area.

You will have access to a self contained one bedroom unit including kitchen facilities. You also have use of outdoor area which I may pass through to service my garden or hang out the washing.
Washing machine is upstairs on rear deck for your use. My office on ground level is private and has no access to guests.
Interaction with Guests
I will aim to meet you on arrival and help become familiar with everything including safety items. Introduce the puppy and where maps, shops and transport are.
After that I may pop in to see everything is as it should be then you are free of me. I am happily available to answer questions or you need help.
Buses are 100 m away and the train station is about 700 m away - a 5-10 minute walk. Both take you into the city about 15 minutes away.
I can collect from the station if you have a lot of luggage.
This is a smoke free home so no smoking in and around the house or garden thank you.
No illicit substances or inappropriate behaviour is accepted.
Internet download use to be within reason. This is a simple but comfortable and welcoming accommodation reflected in the nightly rate. Large usage will slow internet down for EVERYONE.
Happy to get feedback from guests.
Lovely, clean and comfortable home. Annie has really thought of all the small details, there is a nice small library, board games for these rainier days, a very comfortable bed - it really has everything needed to feel just like at home.
Our favourite part were the breakfasts outside on the porch surrounded by all the trees and plants, felt like being somewhere in the country.
Annie is a wonderful host and Dusty is simply adorable. Truly home away from home.
Thank you for your lovely review. Glad you enjoyed the library and outdoor sitting area - it can be really lovely when the frogs are popping away in the mornings. Lots of tadpoles now! I have to do the big clean up after the summer wet season now but everything is VERY well watered for the dry season.
This was our first air bnb experience, Annie's house was perfect for our needs, clean, everything works perfect, the shower is much better than any hotel, Annie is a very good host, she is available whenever you need anything, and respect the guests privacy
The area is close to the city . We had a car so we can't give any feedback regards public transportation
Annie was very friendly and helpful. She went out of her way to make us feel welcome, made sure we had everything we needed and answered our questions about local transport. The house was spacious and clean with a lovely relaxing garden. The kitchen was well equipped for cooking. It was close to bus and train transport with easy access to the city and shops. It was a pleasure having visits from Dusty, the friendly dog, We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
Our stay at Annie 's place was OK. The house was OK but not perfect. It lacked proper cleaning and had several unexpected visitors, 2 cockroaches and several spiders wanted to greet us. When travelling with a baby, cleaning is something that you require, and unfortunately this was lacking. I had my sister in law travelling with us and she slept in the living room . Unfortunately, since she didn't feel comfortable with the bugs, she slept with the lights on.
The garden which is one of the top attractions of this place was not well maintained and not very clean, as a result we did not enjoy it.
Apart from this, Annie was helpful and provided us good tips.
Would not recommend it if you have a baby, otherwise OK for the price you pay.
This is a most unreasonable review. I take particular pride in keeping the apartment extremely clean and reviewed the condition after this very ungenerous response. It was well within my usual standards. In over two years of hosting, guests predominantly comment about the cleanliness, so these guests expectations were an aberration. For reference. The apartment gets at least two hours of cleaning at each change over of guests with toilet and bathroom scrubbed and disinfected every time. These guests may have had one or two of the "bugs" and the odd cockroach that come in from the garden in the tropics. I provide toxic options to dispose of them quickly if they choose, however with a baby, they may choose my method of using a shoe.. The place is screened throughout. I have never had such ridiculous expectations for a pristine place AND garden - mid summer at the height of rain season when the garden is overflowing with growth and activity and rain downpours which limit some cleanup activities. These sort of guests I recommend a hotel next time.
Annie was a delightful host. We stayed 2 nights in her lovely fully
self-contained unit which was extremely private. Annie's dog Dusty was also delightful. The unit was spacious and everything we needed was supplied such as milk, bread, tim tams and the shops are close by. Annie kindly provided as details of nearby paths and walks. We would gladly stay there again.
Annie was a most welcoming host who provided a lovely space with all you could want.
She provided little touches such as milk, bread and a selection of jams and tea and coffee.
The information folder was most helpful and listed places to visit and great cafes and restaurants to eat at.
The interior was beautifully presented and the outside area was an oasis.
We enjoyed meeting Dusty the dog and had a great stay!
Wonderful trip in Annie's Bamboo Garden - our kids loved it, my wife and I loved it, and we were made to feel very welcome. Definitely recommend this place to anyone passing through Brisbane looking for a place to stay. Thanks Annie!

My son Toby and I live in Brisbane Australia. Toby is in Year 9 and is a quiet lad. I am a Landscape Architect and work from home with my own private consultancy. I have travelled far and wide in earlier years, have lived and worked in the Middle East for five years. Am now back home an establishing Chapter 10 of the life cycle in our Brisbane home. I have a keen desire to show Toby the hot spots of the world while he is still happy age to travel with me. I do this homestay to bring the world to us now that I am anchored for a while. Oh it also helps to pay for paint and other toys!! Come and meet us some day soon.
