Welcome to our home. We are a couple with an 9 year old son living in a very lively, friendly part of London in the North Eastern Borough of Hackney.
Spacious loft room with double bed.
Additional double futon mattress for second guest if required.
Private en suite bathroom with shower/WC
Fresh bed linen/towels.
Hair dryer and basic toiletries.
Kettle in room for tea and coffee.
We had our loft converted in our Victorian terrace around five years ago and it has created a fantastic opportunity for family and friends to come and stay with us. Along the way we've occasionally let it out to friends of friends with great success, so we're spreading the word here on airbnb.
It's a lovely light airy loft room with large windows spanning the rear of the house and a large velux to the front. There is a super comfortable double bed and we have a double futon mattress to lay out on the floor if you prefer separate beds (please request).
The private bathroom is on the same floor with a wc / shower and velux window to the front.
The loft with en-suite bathroom is entirely on its own floor so it's a very private part of the house. Having said this, you do have to walk right through and up the main stairs of our home to get there. For this reason the general rule is that we ask you to return home before midnight. So if it's none stop partying you're after we aren't for you. But if you're here for sightseeing, on a work trip or just visiting friends and family and would like a welcome but private place to come back to at the end of a busy day, then we might be just what you are looking for.
We don't generally offer use of the rest of the house or kitchen facilities but there are plenty of great places to eat at locally for breakfast and beyond, which we will be happy to recommend.
There is a kettle in the room for tea/coffee making.
Interaction with Guests
We will be here throughout your stay but pretty much keep to ourselves as a family, leaving you free to enjoy your own space and privacy.
We are happy to give you all the information you need about transport, sightseeing and everything that is available in the local area. Just ask!
We live on a pretty tree lined street running parallel to Stoke Newington High Street, so although in a relatively quiet spot you are just a moment's walk from a vibrant area of cafes and restaurants.
Hackney is well known for its multicultural mix, offering a wide choice of eating establishments. Whether it's Turkish, Indian, Latin, Thai, French or good old British Fish and Chips - we've got it all!
Stoke Newington is chock full of character and has a real community spirit. You will find eclectic shops, organic markets and some lovely green spaces to enjoy. We are in between the super trendy Dalston with its array of fashionable eating and drinking spots, cinema, art and theatre versus the happy bohemian land of Church Street, boasting a rich mix of independent shops, restaurants and cafes.
The amazingly vast Abney Park Cemetry and the beautifully green Clissold Park are also worth the visit to our great neighborhood.
The famous Columbia Road Flower Market is just a 20 min bus ride away as are Brick Lane and Spitalfields Sunday Markets. There is also a great Car Boot sale at our local school every Saturday and Sunday morning, just 10 minutes walk away.
Where we live - Zone 2
Stoke Newington has a great network of bus and rail connections leading to all the main attractions and you'll get to see so much more along the way so please don't be put off by the lack of a tube station in the area.
The bus stop for the 73 is within a few minute’s walk and takes you all the way to Victoria, via The Angel, Kings Cross/ St Pancras International and the famous Oxford Street.
Just a few minutes the other way is the bus stop for Liverpool Street,The City and London Bridge (149) Waterloo and The South Bank (243) St Paul's Cathedral and the Millennium Bridge (76) Hoxton and Brick Lane (67) All of which pass through Dalston (3-4 stops or a 15 minute walk)
From Dalston you can make fast and regular connections to central London via the North London line.
Rectory Road station is also just 5 minutes away for regular trains to Liverpool Street which is on the Central Line.
It takes approx. 40 mins via public transport to get to the centre of London and the main tourist attractions with plenty to see along the way.
From St Pancras International/Eurostar - 73 bus plus 5-10min walk - approx. 30min journey time.
From Heathrow - Piccadilly line and one bus - very little walking - approx. 1hr 40min journey time.
From Stansted - Train or Coach to Liverpool Street and one bus - 2 minute walk. approx 1hr 20min journey time.
From Gatwick - train and bus - easy direct routes 1hr 30min journey time.
Full directions will be given once your reservation is confirmed.
Other Things to Note
Our house is a mix of modern and vintage style with an easy going atmosphere. It's not always tidy (apart from your room!) To be honest we are not an uber tidy sort of family! It's just a happy house with a nice feeling and a few toys hanging around here and there. Our son loves to meet new guests but won't infringe on your privacy and he's not an early, noisy riser by any means.
Parking is residents permit only - but we can offer guest parking permits should you wish to bring your car. (£3.50 a day Monday-Saturday)
We have two very small, crazy hamsters that live in the kitchen (in a cage!) - just in case you have super pet allergies, but that's it, no cats or dogs.
Je parle Francais un peu aussi!
Arrival time to be confirmed in advance.
As this is our family home and we have to get up early for school/work etc. we ask guests to return home by midnight during the week. We're a bit more flexible at the weekend!
We don't provide breakfast or use of the kitchen but there are loads of great places to eat at locally and we are happy to recommend our favourites.
My mum stayed at Helen's on a visit to London. She had a great time, thought the house was really comfortable, and enjoyed her stay. Would highly recommend.
This was my first experience with AirB&B and I will most likely be trying to book in the future to stay with Helen. It is perfectly located. The room is tastefully decorated and very accurately represented on the photos. Beautiful art on the walls and a snug feel; this room is also very clean. I had a perfect sleep and felt hardly aware of noise elsewhere in the house. I also found the price to be very reasonable for the immaculateness and space. Very welcoming details in the room: biscuits with a tea/coffee selection, lovely bathroom products etc. Helens family all seemed used to having the occasional AirB&B guest slip in - they were friendly and relaxed. I hope I visit again later in the year.
Helen's loft is a lovely home away from home. It is great to have your own space and they room is light and airy. It is also close to the top of Stoke Newington Road but it is still a really quiet room.
Lovely accommodation - clean, cosy and tidy. Helen did everything to make my stay easy And was really helpful with regard to transport.
Hope to return and would definitely recommend this accommodation.
Helen was a lovely and welcoming host - she kindly sent us detailed travel options for our journey from outside London and booked us a taxi to take us to a wedding.
Lovely spacious, clean room, very comfortable bed and tea/coffee making facilities with en-suite shower room.
Will definitely book here again if staying in London! Thanks Helen!
Helen was the perfect host! Communication was quick & simple. The Room was lovely and provided everything we needed! Highly recommended!
