Hidden Jungle Beach House: where nature lovers can socialize around the kitchen table or enjoy solitude in a quiet spot on a hammock.
You fall asleep to the sound of the waves and wake to the chattering of a million tropical birds.
Hidden Jungle Beach House is a typical Caribbean style wooden house with three levels. The kitchen is on the first floor. The bedrooms are on the second. And the third floor is my room, I'm the owner, Lisa, and I live here, too.
The first floor kitchen is spacious and open, with jungle all around. The grocery store is only a short jaunt away so you can buy what you need and cook it here. The shared bathroom with a hot shower is on the first floor.
The second floor of Hidden Jungle Beach House has four bedrooms and a living room with cable TV. It also has a shared bathroom with a sink and a toilet. The bedrooms are simple and small. Three bedrooms have double beds and one has a single. Each room has a place to hang your clothes, shelves, desk or table and chair, mosquito nets and a fan, along with clean sheets and towels.
We are a simple place: The windows have screens but we use mosquito nets, too; no A/C just fans and jungle breezes. We love animals. We have two German shepherds (and a cat) to guard the house and entertain the guests. Smoking cigarettes is allowed only outdoors in the yard.
Hidden Jungle Beach House is truly Puerto Viejo’s hidden treasure. You’ll love it’s relaxed and friendly vibes. You’ll sleep cozy and comfortable in the arms of mother nature. You’ll wake up to the sounds of howler monkeys, cute little geckos and a million different kinds of colorful birds.
Helpful suggestions on where to go and what to do are provided by your delightful host, me! I have lived on Costa Rica’s Caribbean for almost 7 years and can give you lots of good advice.

I am Lisa, the owner, and I live here, too! I am most always around - accessible for questions or help.
I'm a writer with a website telling you all about my experiences living in Costa Rica for seven years. I'll give you all the details on your options to get here from the airport, along with photos and instructions. I can book your transportation and I also offer personal guide service. Once you have made your reservation, Airbnb will allow me to give you the link to my website.
When you arrive I give a little tour of the place, showing you where everything is. I am happy to give guidance or recommendations and help you find what you need.
Life in the jungle! Our closest neighbors are sloths, often seen in the trees just outside our windows. Stunning Blue Morpho butterflies and colorful hummingbirds flit by as you sit on the patio. The mornings are chirpy and bright with a million melodic bird songs. Afternoons are quiet and peaceful under the cool of the jungle canopy. And the evenings are exotic with the heady fragrance of jasmine, white ginger and ylang ylang and the curious calls of our nocturnal animal friends. This is truly the place to refresh the mind, nurture the soul and release the stress of everyday living.
It is easy to get here. From the airport you can take a bus, a private shuttle, a rental car or you can even take a rafting trip! I'll give you all the details and book your transportation, if you like.
Once you are here you can access most everything on foot or by bike. The public bus system works well and there are taxis at your disposal.

Lisa was an attentive host. She took time to anwser my many questions before I flew in Costa Rica and that was much appreciated.
Her house has the perfect location, across Playa Negra and a short walk from town. It was nice to «come back home» and be able to cook dinner in the well furnished kitchen. The house and rooms are as described, all was fitting the cool Caribbean vibe.
Also, I felt very safe with the dogs whom are sweeties but guard well. And bonus ! Love Gingy the cat !
I was very lucky to meet the nicest guests and share good memories there. Thank you !
Lisa was an amazing host and she was so helpful in planning and making my stay a great experience. Hidden Jungle Beach House is super clean and was a nice place to stay. A few simple rules are in place to make it safe and enjoyable for everyone. Beach is very close and so is town. Recommeded!!!
I spent 12 wonderful days at Lisa’s place. From the first moment I felt at home. Lisa is an amazing host, very helpful and friendly. She knows a lot about the town and activities in the area and will gladly share it with her guests.
The house is clean, very organized, colorful and Lisa's personal touch is felt everywhere.
Lisa also rents bicycles and for me that was the best way to get to know the area.
She took me horseback riding and it was a wonderful experience. There were only three of us. We started around 10 in the morning, we rode through the jungle and on the beach and after a couple of hours we stopped in the town, at this little cafe, Lisa tied horses at the front, and we had a branch! It was really cool.
Her dogs and especially her cat, Gingy, are adorable.
I would highly recommend her place to anyone. And I do hope to return one day to the Hidden Jungle Beach house.
Lisa is a lovely and inspiring host, very helpful and going the extra mile to welcome ppl in her lovely hut!
Would highly recommending staying with her, the location is perfect in front of a beautiful beach and very close to town
Lisa was a nice host. Her house was very cute and the kitchen area was cool (temperature cool and looks!) and open. She has a solitary house in front of property that is outrageously cool! Definitely the place to rent! 2 bed 1 bathroom and privacy. The back house is a bit cramped and light, noise and smells go over the walls that don't go to ceiling. Luckily I only had to deal with this one night. Loved her dogs but one has a piercing bark at night. Night critters get her going. All in all the price is right, the place is fenced and gated (crime) and if you go to Puerto Viejo, her place is situated well.
Thanks for the review. I am glad you enjoyed the kitchen area where it is a relief from the heat of the day. And yes, the fence and gate keep my place very secure. Even more than that, the dogs are an essential part of the security. They must bark now and then to show intruders that they are present. That is their job. Once in a while when one of the dogs barks too often in the night, I tie her up away from the house, just as I did for you to help you sleep better.
Lisa is a wonderful host. Her place is clean, convenient, safe and a good value. She immediately makes you feel welcome and generously shares her knowledge and love of Costa Rica. She helped us immensely in booking excursions that were quite wonderful and went way beyond the call of duty in accommodating some last minute changes we had. Highly highly recommended.
Lisa's house is tiny, but cosy. You won't have much privacy, but it is really a good option for an affordable, quiet and safe place to stay. I found the matrice really comfortable and the house very clean.
Puerto Viejo was a little bit too much of a party town for my taste and the moments I have had at Lisa's place where replenishing.
Lisa is also really kind and nice. She is working on a wonderful little house in front of her land. It is definitely a place to rent if you are a few people.
Thank you for the nice review, Pascale. I am happy you enjoyed your stay. You are right about privacy in the sense that the rooms are close together and not soundproof. And of course the bathrooms are shared by everyone. But the rooms are private and you have privacy in the bathroom. My prices are economical because my place is not perfect but I try to make it as nice as possible. Thank you for the compliments and for your appreciation.

I’m Lisa Valencia, a writer and Costa Rica guide who has lived in Costa Rica’s Caribbean since 2007.
I believe in following your dreams and living life to the absolute fullest. I believe in giving without regard to what you get. I try to find the balance between being in the moment and planning for the future. I work on keeping judgment in abeyance. And I am thankful, grateful and appreciative of almost every little thing in every moment of life.
One of my greatest feats, since moving to Costa Rica has been that of learning to reinvent myself. In the past I worked as a mural artist and an interior designer. I’ve continued my art work in Costa Rica, but only to a minor extent. To my own surprise my creativity took a turn to the literary, as I recounted my Costa Rica new life experiences to my friends. In September of 2009, I wrote a book about my first two years in Costa Rica, coming here as a woman alone. My book, “If She Can Do It, So Can I!” is available on my website as an AUDIO BOOK an EBOOK and the paperback version is available from Amazon.
My love for literacy and language sparked another idea. I became certified to teach English as a second language and taught locally for a year. As my writing continued it stimulated more reinvention. Due to readers extensive inquiries about Costa Rica living, I developed a Guide Service and a Consultation Service for those interested in Costa Rica.
Three years ago life brought another new way to share my Costa Rica experiences and to reinvent myself. I am the happy owner of a sweet little guest house in the jungle. Although I carry on my guiding and consultation, my realm of service has extended to providing lodging at Hidden Jungle Beach House. It seems things have come full circle. My book was written to inspire others to believe in themselves and follow their dreams. Now I can help those who dream of travel to Costa Rica by providing guidance and an economical place to start their own adventure.
