Hidden Jungle Beach House: where nature lovers can socialize around the kitchen table or enjoy solitude in a quiet spot on a hammock.
You fall asleep to the sound of the waves and wake to the chattering of a million tropical birds.
Hidden Jungle Beach House is a typical Caribbean style wooden house with three levels. The kitchen is on the first floor. The bedrooms are on the second. And the third floor is my room, I'm the owner, Lisa, and I live here, too.
The first floor kitchen is spacious and open, with jungle all around. The grocery store is only a short jaunt away so you can buy what you need and cook it here. The shared bathroom with a hot shower is on the first floor.
The second floor of Hidden Jungle Beach House has four bedrooms and a living room with cable TV. It also has a shared bathroom with a sink and a toilet. The bedrooms are simple and small. Three bedrooms have double beds and one has a single. Each room has a place to hang your clothes, shelves, desk or table and chair, mosquito nets and a fan, along with clean sheets and towels.
We are a simple place: The windows have screens but we use mosquito nets, too; no A/C just fans and jungle breezes. We love animals. We have two German shepherds (and a cat) to guard the house and entertain the guests. Smoking cigarettes is allowed only outdoors in the yard.
Hidden Jungle Beach House is truly Puerto Viejo’s hidden treasure. You’ll love it’s relaxed and friendly vibes. You’ll sleep cozy and comfortable in the arms of mother nature. You’ll wake up to the sounds of howler monkeys, cute little geckos and a million different kinds of colorful birds.
Helpful suggestions on where to go and what to do are provided by your delightful host, me! I have lived on Costa Rica’s Caribbean for almost 7 years and can give you lots of good advice.

I'm a writer with a website telling you all about my experiences living in Costa Rica for seven years. I'll give you all the details on your options to get here from the airport, along with photos and instructions. I can book your transportation and I also offer personal guide service. Once you have made your reservation, Airbnb will allow me to give you the link to my website.
When you arrive I give a little tour of the place, showing you where everything is. I am happy to give guidance or recommendations and help you find what you need.
Life in the jungle! Our closest neighbors are sloths, often seen in the trees just outside our windows. Stunning Blue Morpho butterflies and colorful hummingbirds flit by as you sit on the patio. The mornings are chirpy and bright with a million melodic bird songs. Afternoons are quiet and peaceful under the cool of the jungle canopy. And the evenings are exotic with the heady fragrance of jasmine, white ginger and ylang ylang and the curious calls of our nocturnal animal friends. This is truly the place to refresh the mind, nurture the soul and release the stress of everyday living.
It is easy to get here. From the airport you can take a bus, a private shuttle, a rental car or you can even take a rafting trip! I'll give you all the details and book your transportation, if you like.
Once you are here you can access most everything on foot or by bike. The public bus system works well and there are taxis at your disposal.
Other Things to Note

When you arrive the dogs and cat will greet you as part of the family. Most all of my guests love our pets and the pets love the guests as well.

My only complaint about my stay at Hidden Jungle Beach House is that it was far too short!
The house, just as the name implies, is set back from the main road and surrounded by trees that are filled with local wildlife. It was easy to find by Lisa's directions and was only a few minutes from the beach, but also had a very private feeling to it. The rooms were charmingly decorated and the house was very clean.
I was able to rent a bike from Lisa to get to the attractions on my to-do list (the Jaguar Rescue Centre and Caribeans Chocolate Tasting Lounge), and if I'd been there longer, there were plenty more places I could have reached by cycling or walking.
Lisa herself was an excellent host, always checking in with me and offering suggestions of things to do or places to eat. She even booked a white water rafting trip for me, which took me from her place back to San Jose, where I was catching my flight home.
If I'm ever back in Puerto Viejo, I know where I'll be staying!
I stayed at Hidden Jungle Beach House for 3 nights. My son ended up saying for 2 nights with little notice and Lisa was very helpful in arranging this. The house is near Playa Negro which was great and not far from the village. Lisa was very helpful in relation to good places to visit. It's my first airbnb experience and I feel very positive about the experience.
I stayed for 4 nights in Lisa's charming jungle home. Just as described, it's tucked in a pretty jungle spot, but only a short few minutes walk to town and beaches. Lisa and her boyfriend, Christian, we're both very helpful with providing whatever information I needed, including the bus system to several locales. Two big towels provided, free coffee and water, nice bathroom and shower. And sweet, sweet cat!
Location, location, location when it comes to staying at Lisa's jungle house. Located just across the street from the beach and minutes away from town this is the perfect spot to melt the stress away. She rents bikes cheaper than in town and let's you keep them till you go to bed for the day, can recommend all kinds of places to go and places to see, and can also enjoy the rainforest situated right behind the house. From the outside hammock I was able to see sloths almost every day, frogs, crabs, and other rainforest animals. Treat your self to Pura Vida by staying with Lisa!
Puerto Viejo is a nice town in the Caribbean side of Costa Rica, it's a beautiful beach aside to the jungle so the views are spectacular if you like vegetation. Hidden Jungle Beach House is in the entrance of Puerto Viejo, so you can easily walk to reach the center of the town and also there is a near beach entrance. Lisa, the owner of the house made sure all the guests have everything they need and know. how everything worked in the house, all instructions are simple and your accommodation will be organized so you can enjoy your stay with no concerns. In the town you can find nice places to eat and drink some juices or beers hearing reggae or live music. You can also go to the supermarket and Lisa allows the kitchen to be used. I loved to rent a bike to Lisa (she rented it cheaper than the town) and ride all the way to Punta Uva beach, it is the best beach to swim, is beautiful and the sights in the road are simply beautiful, is an experience very near to the nature.
The house is cute, the rooms are cosy and happily decorated, it has social areas where you can work on something, eat or simply read a book. It is safe and quiet so you can have a very peaceful stay in Puerto Viejo, while you can find some fun in the town. I loved to stay because in comparison to a hotel you have Lisa that can recommend you places or activities, it feels more personal and safer if you are traveling alone or in small groups and it's your first stay in the country or town.
If you are looking for somewhere to stay don't think twice about Hidden Jungle Beach House!
Thank you so much for the very nice and detailed review of my Hidden Jungle Beach House. Your review included everything I want people to know and appreciate about my place. It was very well written. You are a charming and intelligent young woman. I love having you stay with us. I hope you can come back some day!
Lisa is a great host and very accomodating. I stayed for three nights at the start of my trip and Hidden Jungle Beach House was a good choice for the start of my vacation. It is quaint and comfortable and Lisa invites you to make yourself at home. Somewhat set back from the centre of Puerto Viejo (5-10 minute walk) it is well situated for those that want to experience the culture of the town but be able to retire to a quiet relaxation. Lisa was very helpful in booking a horseback riding trip that was one of the highlights of my time on the coast - and when there was confusion meeting my guide she called and ensured that I could still get out to the ride! She also recommended a few other trip suggestions while I was there. The room I stayed in was secure and clean and all that was needed since other than sleeping you spend your time on the beach or in town. Her dogs are absolutely sweet too!! My room had shared kitchen and bathroom with the rest of the house - so if you have issues with this the house may not be for you - but there is also another casitas on the property with more privacy.
My stay at Hidden Jungle beach house was AMAZING! Awesome location (the beach is right across from the house ) and you are a quick walk Away from the main center city of Puerto viejo. There are awesome restaurants, places to shop, amazing beaches, chocolate tours, jungle hikes and so many other things to do nearby! If you are looking for an awesome environment, want to be right near the beach yet still be a walk away from the beautiful city of Puerto Viejo this is the PERFECT location.
And Lisa is a great host! She is very knowledgeable about what activities there are to do and where to find things! Would recommend definitely staying here is coming to Puerto Viejo! This place is magic and Lisa is an awesome guide to help the you unlock the amazing wonders of this area! :)

About the Host, Lisa
I’m Lisa Valencia, a writer and Costa Rica guide who has lived in Costa Rica’s Caribbean since 2007.
I believe in following your dreams and living life to the absolute fullest. I believe in giving without regard to what you get. I try to find the balance between being in the moment and planning for the future. I work on keeping judgment in abeyance. And I am thankful, grateful and appreciative of almost every little thing in every moment of life.
One of my greatest feats, since moving to Costa Rica has been that of learning to reinvent myself. In the past I worked as a mural artist and an interior designer. I’ve continued my art work in Costa Rica, but only to a minor extent. To my own surprise my creativity took a turn to the literary, as I recounted my Costa Rica new life experiences to my friends. In September of 2009, I wrote a book about my first two years in Costa Rica, coming here as a woman alone. My book, “If She Can Do It, So Can I!” is available on my website as an AUDIO BOOK an EBOOK and the paperback version is available from Amazon.
My love for literacy and language sparked another idea. I became certified to teach English as a second language and taught locally for a year. As my writing continued it stimulated more reinvention. Due to readers extensive inquiries about Costa Rica living, I developed a Guide Service and a Consultation Service for those interested in Costa Rica.
Three years ago life brought another new way to share my Costa Rica experiences and to reinvent myself. I am the happy owner of a sweet little guest house in the jungle. Although I carry on my guiding and consultation, my realm of service has extended to providing lodging at Hidden Jungle Beach House. It seems things have come full circle. My book was written to inspire others to believe in themselves and follow their dreams. Now I can help those who dream of travel to Costa Rica by providing guidance and an economical place to start their own adventure.
