Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Thomas (email hidden). I especially appreciated his willingness to drop off the keys with my mother the day before we arrived to facilitate a late check-in. The apartment is small but in a really fun location. It is also surprisingly quiet considering the bar downstairs. We had the windows closed and the AC on and hardly heard a thing. We all slept like logs till the afternoon! One note: there is only one air conditioner which works well but it is in the master bedroom. We were a group of 4 and had to sleep with all the doors open so the rest of the group wouldn't get hot, which kind of defeats the purpose of renting a 2 bedroom apartment in terms of privacy. NOTE: I just heard from Thomas that he is putting an AC in the 2nd bedroom so this will be a non-issue for the next guests. All good.

  • We had a fantastic experience with Thomas and this charming little (yes – emphasis on little, but I'll get into that below) spot. He was easily available by phone and super flexible about getting us the keys when we were delayed at the airport, and even more flexible about our checkout time, so we were able to enjoy pretty much an entire extra day in the city, free of luggage and worry.

Like all vacation rental pics, Thomas's are wide-angle and taken to show the apartment in the best light. But if you are new to NYC living, you should know, despite the size, older fixtures, and adjacency (email hidden) – this place is a gem! Teeny tiny, but decorated smartly and (email hidden)d-in personality. Not to mention, do you know how hard it is to find a true two-bedroom in the City, where there are two actual beds, in separate rooms, with actual doors? It's a palace!

Believe it or not, real people live in these kinds of squeezed but space-optimized places day in and day out, and that's the unique angle of the AirBnB experience – living like a local. The trick locals in a place like NYC know is that you spend almost no time at all in your apartment, so it just needs to do its job as a brief haven and a place to change your clothes, not a social parlor.

That said, I found plenty of sweet little amenities provided that many rentals lack –plenty of fresh towels, shampoo, lotion and other toiletries, a blow dryer, two flat-screen TVs with cable, a working iMac, free easy-to-use wifi, umbrellas, two sets of keys, a full Brita pitcher in the fridge. Everything you need for a nice stay.

    Now to brass tacks:

    • This place is *perfect* for 3 people. Be aware a fourth will fit but might need to sleep on the couch, as the second bed is pretty small for a couple, while the big master bed is very comfy for two.

    • This place is above a popular wine bar (with a killer happy hour), which occasionally plays hip hop and dance tracks, which you can hear and feel through the floor. We knew this and brought earplugs, but honestly didn't need them even on the weekend – felt like white noise to us.

    • This place is reasonably close (5-6 blocks) to a couple different subway lines, which you'll definitely find convenient for getting around. That said...

    • This place is located right in the heart of my very favorite part of the City – you'd be headed here anyway, so why not stay here? Seriously, the East Village is packed with all the best food and drink spots, including Nino's pizza right on the corner, Crif Dogs and a dedicated macaron parlor (what?! yum!) two doors down, and walking distance to popular eateries like Katz's Deli, Big Gay Ice Cream, Momofuku Noodle Bar, and Ippudo.

    Book it!

  • i was there from the 9th May - 14th May with my other 2 friends.
the start of the trip was pretty unpleasant because of the check-in issue. Thomas was totally not contactable when i was desperate to find out if we can do an early check in since we arrive at 12noon ( knowing that the typical check in is at 4pm, i was hoping that we can at least deposit our luggage). I wasn't even told what is the unit number of the apartment so we are stranded outside clueless which unit number to press for help. And finally, Thomas emailed and said the unit number and the cleaner will be late.

All in all, we only manage to comfortably rest in at 6pm. Imagine the trauma of waiting from 12noon.

The apartment is much older than it seems from the photos. The sofa is cracked up, the bathroom is old. The shower area is not great; the hot and cold water is quite screwed up.

The entire apartment is surviving on only 1 A/C. Thank god the weather in nyc is still fairly chilled and we gotta open up the window for ventilation.

With all the bad experience. The only commendable part is the bed. It is really comfortable. Had the best sleep ever... was not disturbed by the noise outside, guess we were lucky cos 1 of the bar downstairs was closed for inspection.

I hope Thomas can be more responsible for his host in future (attending a wedding at Cannes shouldn't be an excuse). Imagine this is our first trip to Nyc and we were hoping someone to advise us on the trip but ended up... nothing.

  • Thomas wad a very accommodating host and the apartment is a great location within walking distance to everything I need and wanted to do. The bedroom was fantastic and I woild stay there again if given the opportunity

  • awesome place, awesome location, awesome host!

    February 2014
  • Thomas was easy top communicate with, from that point of view it was easy and fast.
The neighbourhood was good with an abundance of place of eat and drink and all within a very short walk.

The flat was smaller than the photographs led us to believe with the second bedroom just about ok for two adults.

I'm an active traveler, and work in media in the music and film industry. When I rent my apartment I spend time in my family's country home or travel for work. I spend much time in London where I also reside. I have lived in New York now for four year's, I'm laid back and easy to work with on all fronts. I try to make every experience with renters a great one. When renting apartments I strive to take care of it as I do my own, and ensure it is cleaned up and tidy upon departure. I only use airbnb to rent my apartment and only use this service when renting with others.
