Savor the ethnic vibrancy of a S.F. neighborhood off the beaten path.
*Please note the house is undergoing a downstairs renovation. You may hear construction noise during the day between 8am-5:30pm in the months June-December 2014. Sorry for the inconvenience.
Price – Convenience and Affordability
If you need a bed to sleep at night after a busy day, I have a private bedroom located downstairs to rent out for $31.00/night with additional 20.00 per person. $15.00 per person cleaning deposit fee. FREE WIFI.
Please note that we are renovating the downstairs area. So, it is not in the most presentable manner although the bedroom is freshly painted and very comfortable.
Also available are fresh comforter, sheets, and towels. You have access to a shared bathroom. I will lend you house and bedroom keys.
Food Adventures – What can I say?
Kitchen is newly renovated with granite counters. You have kitchen privileges and a kitchen cabinet as well as pots and pans, plates, etc. Walk 1 block to buy fresh fish, crabs, Asian fruits and vegetables from the corner Asian Market. Across the freeway, walk to Farmer’s Market on weekends. Take 14 Mission bus towards Daly City where you will find Filipino, Chinese, Latin, German restaurants and a hamburger joint in the same neighborhood.
Ethnic Diversity – An Adventure
Venture from the house and walk 1.5 blocks to take 14 Mission, a bus line, that travels from one end of San Francisco, from the borders of Daly City, into the midst of vibrant Mission District with its summertime Carnival Fairs, edgy museums, bohemian culture and electrifying vibes, and to the last embarkation in Embarcadero which kisses the waters of the San Francisco Bay and is the heart of downtown San Francisco. Take the adventurous ride on this famous bus line and visit various S.F. districts en route. Or, walk four blocks to Glen Park Bart station and take the Bart lines that travel to SF International airport and within the City as well as various Bay Area cities, locations and destinations.
House - Experience immersion in San Francisco everyday life.
The house is shabby-chic, thoroughly cleaned weekly and conveniently located near the Mission, Excelsior, and Glen Park—all within walking distance from the house. It is very close to transportation, freeways and major thoroughfares. ****************************

Room was cozy but comfortable, neighborhood was generally pretty pleasant, and the facilities were clean. Good place for the price.
I stayed in the downstairs room for about a month and a half. Overall, happy with my stay. This is the fifth place I have stayed in Bay Area via Airbnb. Most crowded place in comparison, but best location. Had a rough start when I moved in (miscommunication about cleaners) so the room was filthy (literally a layer of dirt) but Maria quickly attended to it and gave me that day refunded.
-Maria is very quick and responsive to your needs, her family (brother, his wife and child) were friendly
-Brand new fridge, simple no frills room
-Good speed internet
-Roommates are generally friendly and keep the kitchen very tidy (good if you cook a lot)
-Super convenient location to Mission district, Glen Park (coffeeshops & Organic grocery store), Chinese supermarket
-Fresh vegetables on the counter!
-Paying around $1000 to live in a house with anywhere from 11-13 people at a time. Understand SF has crazy rent, but seems a bit excessive that someone is even living literally in the kitchen/living cordoned off with this wood panel. Also means bathrooms are often taken. Learned now that I could easily share a short-term apartment with 2-3 others for the same price.
-The chair and lamp pictured were not in the room
- I would say for the majority of my stay there was some form of work going on downstairs. Noise was a bit difficult for me since I was largely working at home/had job interviews — but when I communicated specific times they were very considerate.
-Downstairs bathroom was often quite a state (tight shower, floor often dirty and wet), had to carry your own toilet paper
- A bit noisy at times, and the air isn´t great in the basement. Right by the intersection off the interstate so VERY noisy traffic
All in all, suited my short term needs and convenient location. Appreciated the nice neighborly atmosphere.
Ann was very nice and just complained to me about the occasional renovation noise which we promptly corrected upon her request. The other issues which she stated in her review are new to me.
This is a 7 bedroom house with three bathrooms and accommodates 9 people. My brother lives in this house and his 2 daughters visit on weekends, so Ann's statement about having 13 people is not accurate. If someone visits is that actually living at the house? She had quick access to bathrooms and kitchen so despite our large household, she was able to live comfortably during her long term stay.
I change the decor of the room, thus curtain, comforter, furniture may vary from photo. However, the basics such as bed, desk, lighting, etc. stay the same. As far as the bathroom comments, well, there are a few people who use the shower and don't towel off to dry, thus water drips on the floor, so the floor gets wet. There is no maid service, but there is a mop nearby to correct this problem. I don't understand why people don't just use it instead of complaining. I mention to all my guests prior or immediately after acceptance of their reservation that maintenance and upkeep are shared tasks by all guests and residents.
Overall, she mentioned her stay was fine, but in her review she went into great details about her complaints which is fine.
I always tell my guest to express their reasonable concerns so that I may address them or delegate someone to resolve the problems. However, I do need guests to cooperate and also carry their responsibility in helping with the upkeep and maintenance of the house.
Maria's is a great place to stay in SF. Her family are warm, welcoming, fun and go out of their way to make guests feel at home. Every week there were fresh, baked goodies for us to enjoy. Their home's only 100 yards from a major Oriental supermarket and super-convenient for buses into central SF and other amenities. Another amazing thing about Maria's is the quality of the other housemates. People's food doesn't go missing and dishes always get washed. If you're going to SF, stay at Maria's!
Somewhat minimalist, but perfect for a visitor on a budget. Host was friendly and accommodating. Dorm-style... bathroom and kitchen are shared. Close to public transport.
Cozy, clean, and convenient room! Maria was very helpful when I had to prolong my stay for a few days, and over the course of the month I got to meet a lot of interesting people from all over the world. An excellent host!
My stay at Maria's house was great. It is a safe and peaceful house. Plus, it is located conveniently near mass transportation, affordable restaurants, and much more. I recommend staying in one of Maria's rooms. The room was an excellent value for the price and its conveniences.
