Villa Sungai is just moments from bustling Ubud yet peaceful and quiet, with the best views in all of Bali. Perfect for 4 with a huge deck, gorgeous pool and right on the ricefields, it's tropical living at its finest -"Heaven at an Earthly Price"
Villa Sungai - our new two bedroom Villa at Harmony Villas - is designed in modern minimalist style to celebrate tropical sophistication and endorse the healthy benefits of fresh air and natural lighting with an open living, dining and kitchen space overlooking an ocean of rice with a small stream below. It's a perfect spot to spend hours relaxing and swimming in the beautiful infinity pool right on the edge of the raised bluff.
The Villa is a granite, stone, terrazzo and bamboo masterpiece with a soaring ceiling structure that's a work of art in itself. The master bedroom is a sanctuary for adult relaxation while the second bedroom is set up with either twin beds for accompanying children or a double for adults. Two en-suite bathroom facilities features rain showers for luxurious bathing experiences. The kitchen has a breakfast bar and is well equipped for casual food preparation or a more elaborate dinner. The living room is tastefully furnished for relaxation with a large teak dining table and traditional Javanese sofa.
Villa Sungai is your own private world yet steps away from Harmony's 15 meter infinity pool. The Harmony pool is situated on the very edge of the bluff overlooking the rice and has a shallow end seating area for relaxing after you've done your laps! It's central to all the Harmony villas yet large enough for privacy. We don't have pool hours so feel free to take a moonlight swim at 3 am!
One of the favorites of Sungai's guests is to awaken before dawn and watch the early light lift the mist over the ocean of rice a few meters below the expansive deck with coffee in hand. It's an experience like no other in Bali. Stay long enough and you'll experience the whole cycle of rice cultivation from planting to harvesting and the local religious festivals celebrating Bali's unique cultural heritage.
Your villa stay includes daily breakfast (for up to four people), free wifi, a laptop sized safe, fully equipped kitchen, towels, TV/DVD, parking, laundry (by arrangement), daily staff service, a yoga deck, lush landscaping and the priceless ambiance of the Harmony lifestyle.
Villa Sungai is located on the edge of a huge rice paddy in the village of Lodtunduh, about 2 km from Ubud and not far from the Monkey Forest and all the world class shopping on Hanuman Street and the cultural activities and restaurants in Ubud. We are very centrally located for all of Bali's sights and activities. Sanur beach is close (about 12 miles) and Seminyak. Kuta and Legian are easy drives for a whole day out with a different vibe. Or you can go up the hill to Kintamani and the hot springs at Lake Batur in an hour or so. Temples abound everywhere - from Besakih, the "Mother Temple" to Tanah Lot on the ocean (two of the most famous and holy) and we can organize tours to anywhere on the island and to Lombok too....
It's slightly cooler in the Ubud area than the beach. A/C is not needed at Harmony due to our location right on the edge of the rice fields. We almost always get a breeze and the Sungai has 4 powerful overhead fans and a huge high ceiling to keep the air flowing. You'll find our design for indoor/outdoor living works for your comfort.
The Villa is available for daily rental (2 night minimum please) or longer. Please ask us for rates for longer term stays (over 10 days) We do not have a set check in or out time to meet your needs if you are coming from outside of Bali. We can arrange airport pickup and drop off for you for a reasonable charge. Please also note we must collect a 10% Indonesian government hotel tax payable upon check in.

I'm not always in Bali but our staff will look after you hand and foot. If I'm there I'm always available to give you tips and pointers on the best way to maximize your stay in Ubud and Bali.
Our village is still mostly agricultural and its a fascinating place to experience real Bali village life which can't be found in touristy areas such as Kuta or Seminyak. That's the lovely thing about our area of Lodtunduh village.
You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali) , the local temple festivals.
but most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. You'll see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight - while you may not approve, it's part of the culture here and if you are so inclined you can wager and maybe win!
There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport (about $30) and into town (about $5) a few minutes away and we can also rent you scooters (and helmets!) for about $6 per day. There's parking at the villa. Please note although the airport is only about 20 miles away it can take about an hour and a half. The roads are small and there's a lot of traffic in Bali!
There is something very soulful about this special place on the outskirts of Ubud. It sits adjacent to a wide, beautiful swath of rice paddies that are full of life day and night: Duck parades, beautiful birds, croaking frogs, other living creatures including local residents who work the paddies and also walk between them. It's quite a lovely, peaceful, joyful view. Authentic. The villa and property measure up to the owner's description. He has created a beautiful destination here. Everything works. What makes it sing, though, is the helpful, happy, gracious staff. Want a taxi? A motorbike? Breakfast on your deck? A cook to come in the evening?. Some may want the convenience of being in the core of Ubud. For us, the Bali rice paddy exposure and experience proved to be a special alternative to Bali beaches. A cab for approximately $4 gets you anywhere in town.
Our stay at Villa Sungai was incredible. Michael was a dream to work with during the entire booking process and seemed to answer my questions quicker than I could press send.
When we arrived to the property, we received a warm welcome from the villa staff, who showed us our home for the week and greeted us with delicious, freshly made fruit smoothies to enjoy on our patio overlooking the rice paddies. We received nothing but that level of care for the remainder of our stay -- whether it was the fantastic breakfast prepared for us each morning, arranging transportation or helping us with translation.
The villa and grounds were absolutely gorgeous -- photos cannot do this scene justice. Harmony is truly the best of both worlds: you'll feel like you have a luxury resort to yourself, while the sights and shopping of Ubud are a 15-20 minute walk (or a very quick cab or scooter ride away).
The harshest reality check was waking up in my own bed the morning after I returned home and realizing I was no longer at Sungai! I am going to miss my mornings waking up with the adorable villa dog, Trixie, and closing each evening with a nightswim in the villa pool. Harmony will now be the "happy place" I daydream about while stuck in the long, dreary winter months!
Our stay at harmony was spectacular! My family and I enjoyed privacy and amazing views - truly a peaceful setting. Wayan and the rest of the staff were so kind-hearted and pleasant. Food was wonderful, massages by Komang perfect....and the proximity to ubud central afforded us tiny breaks without disturbing our goal of doing nothing (mostly!). We will certainly recommend to friends who will travel this way in the near future and look forward to returning. Many thanks to Michael for arranging and kudos to him for choosing such a perfect location.
Amazing place with fantastic view. The breakfast is really good and the staff is friendly and really helpful. The only small issue will be the water pressure for the shower is kinda low but that's not a big deal for us. The most amazing part is sitting on the beanbag and enjoying the view and fresh air.We have our wonderful stay at Michael's villa and will definitely recommend to anyone who want to experience the true beauty of Ubud.
Beautiful setting with very well fitted rooms and bathrooms. The staff were outstanding and keen to organise tours, cooking classes and transfers.
We had nine wonderful days at this villa. It was perfect for us - a couple, our toddler daughter and one grandparent.
Michael communicated clearly via airbnb and the staff at the villa were excellent - accommodating, subtle and kind.
We are already recommending this to friends and family.
This was a perfect stay in Ubud. Michael, Camille and the rest of the staff were hospitable and very welcoming! I have recommended many friends to stay here not only because it was affordable but also the views, amenities, and staff were wonderful! Not to mention breakfast made in your kitchen daily with fresh fruits! The pool was great, and the view of the rice paddies were just amazing!
Michael's Villa is stunning to say the very least. As everyone else mentioned, the photos do not do this piece of heaven any justice. The rooms, the infinity pool, the staff were all incredible, and allow for a perfect stay in Ubud. The breakfasts are as delicious as mentioned below, and the people are some of the most hospitable individuals I have ever met. Michael was extremely welcoming and friendly, and gave us some great recommendations as well, treating us like family. The open airy-ness of these villas do lend themselves to some natural sounds, critters, and such, which makes the experience that much more authentic. I would highly recommend this villa to anyone, and am grateful to have stayed in such an amazing place.
If you love a retreat this is the place to stay!
This is an amazing place a must! My husband and I recently stayed here in the end of September with our two friends. We fell in love with the place. Incredible location on the rice fields with a stunning view. Camille who is the point person was lovely and extremely helpful in all matters. I even left my kindle there and the owner is going to help me get it back to the US. The rooms were spotless, pool clean and refreshing. The breakfast was delicious and so fun to sit out on the porch each morning. I really loved it and did not want to leave! 5 stars for sure. Thank you!
