Villa Sungai - our luxury two bedroom Villa at Harmony Villas - is designed in modern minimalist style to celebrate tropical sophistication and endorse the healthy benefits of fresh air and natural lighting with an open living, dining and kitchen space overlooking an ocean of rice with a small stream below. It's a perfect spot to spend hours relaxing and swimming in the beautiful infinity pool right on the edge of the raised bluff. Your stay includes a fabulous daily breakfast and full staff services.
The Villa is a granite, stone, terrazzo and bamboo masterpiece with a soaring ceiling structure that's a work of art in itself. The master bedroom is a sanctuary for adult relaxation while the second bedroom is set up with either twin beds for accompanying children or a double for adults. Two en-suite bathroom facilities features rain showers for luxurious bathing experiences. The kitchen is well equipped for casual food preparation or a more elaborate dinner. The living room is tastefully furnished for relaxation with a large teak dining table and traditional Javanese sofa.
The huge 15 meter infinity pool at Harmony on the edge of the rice fields is only steps away from your private villa through Harmony's lush landscaping. The pool is situated on the very edge of the bluff overlooking the rice and has a shallow end seating area for relaxing after you've done your laps! It's central for use by the five villas at Harmony yet due to its size and differing guest schedules, it's rare not to have it to yourself. We don't have pool hours so feel free to take a moonlight swim at 3 am!
One of the favorites of Sungai's guests is to awaken before dawn and watch the early light lift the mist over the ocean of rice a few meters below the expansive deck with coffee in hand. It's an experience like no other in Bali. Stay long enough and you'll experience the whole cycle of rice cultivation from planting to harvesting and the local religious festivals celebrating Bali's unique cultural heritage.
Your villa stay includes a daily cooked breakfast (for up to four people), free wifi, a laptop sized safe, fully equipped kitchen, towels, TV/DVD, parking, laundry (by arrangement), daily staff services, a yoga deck, lush landscaping and the priceless ambiance of the Harmony lifestyle.
Enjoy a wonderful daily cooked breakfast prepared in your villa each morning of delicious pancakes or eggs, fresh tropical fruit tea or coffee and juice to start your day in paradise! Breakfast will be prepared in your villa each morning from 8-11am. If you would like to change breakfast times, please ensure you notify our villa manager at check in so we can accommodate you.
Villa Sungai is located on the edge of a huge rice paddy in the village of Lodtunduh, about 2 km from Central Ubud and only 1.7km from the famous Monkey Forest and all the world class shopping on Hanuman Street and the cultural activities and restaurants in Ubud. We are very centrally located for all of Bali's sights and activities. Sanur beach is close (about 12 miles) and Seminyak. Kuta and Legian are easy drives for a whole day out with a different vibe. Or you can go up the hill to Kintamani and the hot springs at Lake Batur in an hour or so. Temples abound everywhere - from Besakih, the "Mother Temple" to Tanah Lot on the ocean (two of the most famous and holy) and we can organize tours to anywhere on the island and to Lombok too....
Staff at the villa will help you with all your needs arranging tours and sightseeing, car or scooter rental, personal laundry and itineraries as well as giving you tips for the best shopping and massage in Ubud. A private chef can also be arranged to cook you traditional Indonesian cuisine right in the privacy of your own villa in your fully equipped kitchen. Or, if you would like to do it yourself, book a private cooking class. Our chef is very reasonable and an amazing cook! We can also organize lunch or evening dining in your villa - just ask our staff at check in and they'll take good care of you.
For those wishing to cook for themselves, we are only one mile away from the main supermarket (Coco supermarket) so you'll be able to stock up with local provisions.
Our village is still mostly agricultural and its a fascinating place to experience real Bali village life which can't be found in touristy areas of Bali such as Kuta or Seminyak. That's the lovely thing about our area of Lodtunduh village.
You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali) , the local temple festivals. But most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. You'll see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight - you may not approve but its very much part of village life here. And you can wager and maybe win if you want!
There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport (about $24) and into town (about $4) a few minutes away and we can also rent you scooters (and helmets!) for about $6 per day. There's free parking at the villa.
It's cooler in the Ubud area than the beach. A/C is not needed at Harmony due to our location right on the edge of the rice fields. We almost always get a breeze and Sungai has 4 powerful overhead fans and a high ceiling to keep the air flowing. The breezes complemented by ceiling fans are usually enough to keep you cool even at the warmest time of year. You'll find our open tropical design for indoor/outdoor living works for your comfort.
The Villa is available for daily rental (2 night minimum please) or longer. Please ask us for rates for longer term stays (over 10 days) We do not have a set check in or out time to meet your needs if you are coming from outside of Bali. We can arrange airport pickup and drop off for you for a reasonable charge.
*** Please also note we must collect a 10% Indonesian government hotel tax payable upon check in which is payable in US$ or Indonesian Rupiah.
Although we welcome children (our pool has a children's bathing area), Harmony isn't designed specifically as a child safe property so you will need to be responsible for them at all times.
We can also arrange the following services:
• Yoga classes
• Car rental
• Car and driver
• Scooter rental
• Bike rental
• Laundry service (Extra charge)
• Tours and sightseeing
• Airport pickup and delivery (Extra charge)
Staff will meet you upon arrival at Harmony, show you to your villa and provide you with keys, wi-fi password and the house manual with suggestions on all the local sights to see, restaurants to visit and local tours for enhancing your stay.
... and finally .... enjoy the wonderful cycle of the rice paddies! Depending on when you visit you’ll see the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. It’s one of the best things about visiting Harmony! The cycle is fascinating to watch no matter when you come!

Interaction with Guests
I'm not always in Bali as I travel extensively myself, but our staff are really wonderful and will treat you like family. If I'm lucky to be staying while you're there, I'm always available to give you tips and pointers on the best way to maximize your stay in Ubud and Bali.

There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport (about $30) and into town (about $5) a few minutes away and we can also rent you scooters (and helmets!) for about $6 per day. There's parking at the villa. Please note although the airport is only about 20 miles away it can take about an hour and a half. The roads are small and there's a lot of traffic in Bali!
Villa Sungai is one of five villas at Harmony and while Harmony is large enough so each Villa is private, it's small enough for community. We don't have a lot of rules except have maximum fun and relaxation
We ask you respect other guests privacy as they will yours and please don't smoke except on your private deck (not inside the villa). There's some basic stuff about being in a tropical environment; our staff will advise you on arrival. Please also note that although we love children (our pool does have a children's bathing area) Harmony is not specifically designed to be a child safe property and if you do book with children you will need to be responsible for them at all times..
We do have a few suggestions though....
We like to suggest you support the village shops where you can buy beer and snacks from the locals rather than going into town.
We have a resident dog called Trixie. She's a real sweetheart. Enjoy her.
Watch the rice... it's mesmerizing.
Villa as described - has a great view right on top of the rice fields, onsite staff and Ubud within a 10 minute drive. The instructions and the guest manual were extremely helpful and the airport pickup arrangement was appreciated. Michael's communication was very timely. Would definitely recommend!
We enjoyed very much in villa that is very surreal and nice in Ubud and the people taking care of villa are wonderful and the breakfast the female staff cooked are tasty
They are also helpful and accommodating. Definitely will come back again!
Harmony Villa was a welcome home away from home after a grueling 24 hours from the USA. Pick up from the airport was very smooth as was all aspects of our stay. Wayan and the staff were all so warm and kind. Breakfast was delicious and the banana pancakes were amazing! The days can get a bit warm but the fans do the job of keeping you cool. The pool was also a welcome sight after exploring the city all day. The villa was very spacious and looks as it does in the pictures. As stated in the description, it's about 50idr ride to town, but be sure to get whatever groceries and drinks you want in one trip so you don't have to go back and forth. Also planning meals ahead of time would be advisable since some of the take out places in the binder were not available for last minute munchies. There's not much around the villa as far as eateries and while you don't have the convenience of being in the heart of the city, the tranquility surrounding the villa was lovely. We hired Agus for the day to drive us around and he did a fantastic job of showing us beautiful Ubud. Driving back from the palace one night took almost 20 minutes because of the traffic. Be aware that the villa is open to the outdoors so you will get your share of critters (ants, geckos, birds, and even a bat). Mosquitos weren't a problem but we did use repellant just in case. The staff helped us straight away with the critters however and it provided some entertainment for my kids. Trixie the dog was also adorable and has the most mellow disposition. Overall it was a wonderful 3 days in the countryside getting to know the locals and I'm glad we got to experience this side of Bali!
Very nice location, great pool. Delicious breakfasts! We used Piel for taxi services after he did our airport pick up - he was very reliable. Mosquito nets were the best I've ever seen! Very clean and well looked after house.
Absolutely beautilfull villa with stunning views over the Rice fields from every corner of the house and the pool! We stayed here a week and we and our 2 kids (7y) loved it! Beautiful design, open air, huge rooms, beautiful bathrooms. And the pool is absolutly great! Very friendly and helpfull staff who prepaired breakfast in our villa as soon as we opened the doors. The location is perfect, in a small and quiet village away from the buzz of Ubud amidst the ricefields. Once we made a beautiful hike through the ricefields to Ubud. Certainly would do it again!
Absolutely stunning villa tucked away from the traffic chaos of Ubud. Could have sat and looked over the rice fields for many more days. Beautiful pool. Great staff. Huge rooms. The villa is open air, so if you have a crying baby (which we did), might not be ideal if sharing with friends. But we had a fantastic time. Highly recommended.
We loved being at Harmony Villa, such a beautiful, restful and relaxing place, sitting above the padi fields, walking a few steps from the front door and plunging into the infinity pool, lolling under the shade of the overhanging magnolia tree and taking in the scene before you, always changing and interesting. The accommodation itself is wonderfully appointed, all the comforts you could wish for and designed and decorated in such stylish simplicity. We loved opening up all the doors, creating an open vista before us of the local Lodtunduh landscape, farmers gently tilling the soil, water running, ducks waddling in the distance. We were served delightful breakfasts in our villa each morning, all the staff were delightful and so helpful, including our local driver Wayan Dolar who was readily organised on a couple of days to accompany us to local attractions. We thoroughly recommend Harmony Villa, you will LOVE it!
