The Villa is a granite, stone, terrazzo and bamboo masterpiece with a soaring ceiling structure that's a work of art in itself. The master bedroom is a sanctuary for adult relaxation while the second bedroom is set up with either "twin/single" beds for accompanying children or a double for adults. Two en-suite bathroom facilities features rain showers for luxurious bathing experiences. The kitchen is well equipped for casual food preparation or a more elaborate dinner. The living room is tastefully furnished for relaxation with a large teak dining table and traditional Javanese sofa.

An extra adult bed and/or cot for young children can be added to accommodate larger groups too.

The huge 15 meter infinity pool at Harmony on the edge of the rice fields is only steps away from your private villa through Harmony's lush landscaping. The pool is situated on the very edge of the bluff overlooking the rice and has a shallow end seating area for relaxing after you've done your laps! It's central for use for the villas at Harmony yet due to its size and differing guest schedules, it's rare not to have it to yourself. We don't have pool hours so feel free to take a moonlight swim at 3 am!

One of the favorites of Sungai's guests is to awaken before dawn and watch the early light lift the mist over the ocean of rice a few meters below the expansive deck with coffee in hand. It's an experience like no other in Bali. Stay long enough and you'll experience the whole cycle of rice cultivation from planting to harvesting and the local religious festivals celebrating Bali's unique cultural heritage.

We have a flexible check in and out time and are happy to accommodate you if you are coming from outside of Bali. Airport pickup and drop off can also be arranged for an additional fee. Motor bike, scooter, push bike and car rental is available on site.

Enjoy a wonderful daily cooked breakfast prepared in your villa each morning of delicious pancakes or eggs, fresh tropical fruit tea or coffee and juice to start your day in paradise! Breakfast will be prepared in your villa each morning from 8-11am.

Villa Sungai is located on the edge of a huge rice paddy in the village of Lodtunduh, about 2 km from Central Ubud and only 1.7km from the famous Monkey Forest and all the world class shopping on Hanuman Street and the cultural activities and restaurants in Ubud. We are very centrally located for all of Bali's sights and activities. Sanur beach is close (about 12 miles) and Seminyak. Kuta and Legian are easy drives for a whole day out with a different vibe. Or you can go up the hill to Kintamani and the hot springs at Lake Batur in an hour or so. Temples abound everywhere - from Besakih, the "Mother Temple" to Tanah Lot on the ocean (two of the most famous and holy) and we can organize tours to anywhere on the island and to Lombok too....

Staff at the villa will help you with all your needs arranging tours and sightseeing, car or scooter rental, personal laundry and itineraries as well as giving you tips for the best shopping and massage in Ubud. A private chef can also be arranged to cook you traditional Indonesian cuisine right in the privacy of your own villa in your fully equipped kitchen. Or, if you would like to do it yourself, book a private cooking class. Our chef is very reasonable and an amazing cook! We can also organize lunch or evening dining in your villa - just ask our staff at check in and they'll take good care of you.

For those wishing to cook for themselves, we are only 1 mile away from the main supermarket (Coco supermarket) so you'll be able to stock up with local provisions.

You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali), the local temple festivals. But most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. You'll see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight - you may not approve but its very much part of village life here. And you can wager and maybe win if you want!

It's cooler in the Ubud area than the beach. A/C is not needed at Harmony due to our location right on the edge of the rice fields. We almost always get a breeze and Sungai has 4 powerful overhead fans and a high ceiling to keep the air flowing. The breezes complemented by ceiling fans are usually enough to keep you cool even at the warmest time of year. You'll find our open tropical design for indoor/outdoor living works for your comfort.

*** Please also note we must collect a 10% Indonesian government hotel tax payable upon check in which is payable in US$ or Indonesian Rupiah.

We can also arrange the following services:
• Yoga classes
• Massage
• Car rental
• Car and driver
• Scooter rental
• Bike rental
• Laundry service (Extra charge)
• Tours and sightseeing
• Airport pickup and delivery (Extra charge)

Staff will meet you upon arrival at Harmony, show you to your villa and provide you with keys, wi-fi password and the house manual with suggestions on all the local sights to see, restaurants to visit and local tours for enhancing your stay.

... and finally .... enjoy the wonderful cycle of the rice paddies! Depending on when you visit you'll see the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. It's one of the best things about visiting Harmony! The cycle is fascinating to watch no matter when you come!

Guest access

Sungai guests can use all the facilities. Harmony has a beautiful 15 meter infinity pool with unobstructed endless views right on the edge of the rice fields. It's perfect for laps or just hanging out and watching the sunset. The infinity pool is shared with the other villas but always feels private. Due to its size and differing guest schedules, you’ll find it's rare not to have it to yourself. All our villas are private and Sungai has an expansive deck with the best view in Ubud. You'll enjoy endless views as far as the eye can see from the pool and yoga deck.

Interaction with guests

I'm not always in Bali as I travel extensively myself, but our onsite staff are really wonderful and will treat you like family (we have day time staff and night time security). If I'm lucky to be staying while you're there, I'm always available to give you tips and pointers on the best way to maximize your stay in Ubud and Bali.

The neighborhood

Our village is a fascinating place to experience real Bali village life which can't be found in touristy areas such as Kuta or Seminyak. That's the lovely thing about our area of Lodtunduh village.

We're only a 2 minute walk to great local restaurants (warungs) in the village main street... and close to local spas, yoga studios (The Yoga Studio, Intuitive Flow, The Yoga Barn) and the many great restaurants in Ubud.

You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali) , the local temple festivals.
but most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. You'll see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight - while you may not approve, it's part of the culture here and if you are so inclined you can wager and maybe win!

Getting around

There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport (about $27) and into town (about $6) a few minutes away. Staff at the villa can arrange private scooter rental along with bikes and car rental with or without a driver. The daily price for scooter rental is 60000rp (approximately $4.60) and discount price for monthly rental rp or $75. The price includes helmet. The rental doesn't include insurance which is typical for casual scooter rental in Bali so check your travel insurance for coverage. Technically you'll need an international driving license which you can get from any AAA office for $20.
There's free parking at the villa too. Please note although the airport is only about 20 miles away it can take up to an hour and a half to get there. The roads are small and there's a lot of traffic in Bali!

Other things to note

Ubud is a gastronomic paradise with virtually every kind of food available just a few minutes from the villa. Many offer take out and delivery, so you can eat in your villa, under the stars on your private deck, or on the pool deck. Our amazing private chef is available (by arrangement) to cook for you or give you Balinese cooking lessons.

Harmony is open to nature and you should expect visits from insects and lizards in our tropical climate. There are very few animals that are dangerous even although they may look so! But be prepared to be close to nature in all its beauty.

House Rules
Not suitable for pets
No parties or events
Check in time is flexible

Villa Sungai is one of five villas at Harmony and while Harmony is large enough so each Villa is private, it's small enough for community. We don't have a lot of rules except have maximum fun and relaxation

We ask you respect other guests privacy as they will yours and please don't smoke except on your private deck (not inside the villa). There's some basic stuff about being in a tropical environment; our staff will advise you on arrival.

Daily breakfast will be provided each morning between 8-11am. If you’d like to change or request specific breakfast times, please ensure you notify staff at check in.

Villa towels will be replaced every 3 days. If you'd like them changed more frequently, please make sure to let our staff know.

Please also note that although we love children (our pool does have a children's bathing area) Harmony is not specifically designed to be a child safe property and if you do book with children you will need to be responsible for them at all times..

We do have a few suggestions though....

We like to suggest you support the village shops where you can buy beer and snacks from the locals rather than going into town.

Watch the rice... it's mesmerizing.

The villa has remarkable view to the rice paddy fields. Eventhough we have to share pool but there weren't too much people staying in other villa. Breakfast was ok. Room a bit too hot because there was no AC and lots of mosquito. Should put more mosquito repellent in every room. The water in the shower drop very slow, it took lots of time if we have to wash our hair. The villa is really quite, it's good if you need privacy.

The property was really beautiful and mostly accurate. We really enjoyed the view of the rice field from our deck and the pool. Wayan, the property manager was very friendly and professional. However, if you stay here, please know that it's not completely enclosed as we were visited by several lizards, tons of ants, and bugs. Although none of these are harmful and it's apart of nature, it was a bit frustrating controlling the heap of ants, particularly when the traditional daily Hindu offering included some sort of food. We are very respectful of the traditions and embrace them, but on some days the offering included a food item that was left directly inside of our villa which welcomed more ants and bugs. Additionally, we were told prior to booking the villa that Trixie, a dog, was no longer on the property and had been adopted by the village. However, we were greeted by Trixie upon our arrival and she made her way inside of our villa. We love animals and Trixie is friendly, but we were not too thrilled that she was on the property and could access our villa while the deck doors were opened. It was a bit of a bummer because if one of us had allergies to dogs, it could've been a problem which is why we asked if the dog was on site prior to booking. We contacted the host and he apologized. Although there's a kitchen, the breakfast was not prepared in your presence . So, don't assume that you'll see what's going on, but it was really good. is at least a 30 minute walk to Ubud Center and I would not suggest walking at night. Lastly, if you stay here or at another villa, please have a good idea of the typical pricing of tours, in-house food, and taxi into Ubud Center as some may try to get over on you. The host provides a really good guide--use it and know that everything is negotiable. :) Thank you, Michael!

Amazing place! The view is stunning and the staff super sweet and helpful. What really blew my mind is the ventilation system. The villa was pleasant and cool all day without any air conditioning

Amazing place for sunset!! We checked in right when the sun was setting so my friends and I jumped in the pool! The staffs were very accommodating and let us enjoy the view overlooking the rice paddies before coming back to finish checking us in and go over things. The place is as described and we spent most of our time opening the doors for an unrestricted view of the paddies. It is semi open so expect some friendly little creatures that are harmless - we liked the semi open concept and even felt like we were taking a shower/bath out in the open/nature. We didn't encounter many mosquitoes and actually didn't even use any of the bracelets, repellents, perfumes etc we brought. Breakfast was delicious and again, very accommodating to our hectic sight seeing schedule. They made us breakfast when we came back from hiking Mt.Batur at 2 am while we only had 30 minutes to change for our next adventure and breakfast was almost over (11am). Highly recommend this place!!

We had a fantastic stay in Sungai at Harmony villas. The outlook over the rice paddies is stunning as is the pool that we made use of all hours. Breakfasts yummy. Staff so helpful and great with our son too. Highly recommend. Would definitely stay at Harmony again when we're next in Ubud.

I stayed with my sister in the 2 bedroom villa for 3 nights. We both loved our time there overall and the pool was awesome. A couple things I have to mention - The bugs, waking up to ants in the bed and the living room at night there are a ton. WIFI was pretty bad but thats the same all over Bali. Location is a bit of a mission getting to, 6/10. I have to recommend downloading and using UBER as the staff price getting to town is $10 (AUS) but $2 UBER Nice stay over all :)

I'm an educational filmmaker born in the UK, spent many years in Los Angeles, have an organic farm (still going) in Southern California and now travel a lot with bases in beautiful Bali.and equally beautiful Ojai, California. I've created Harmony Villas with my Balinese friend Wayan Nama in a modern tropical minimalist style to reflect our joint passions - connection with the land, no clutter, beauty and a wonderful environment. I'm equally passionate about providing a superlative experience for Harmony guests so they can have an authentic Bali vacation and truly relax.
