Villa Sungai is located on the edge of a huge rice paddy in the village of Lodtunduh, about 2.5 km from Ubud and not far from the Monkey Forest and all the world class shopping on Hanuman Street and the cultural activities and restaurants in Ubud. We are very centrally located for all of Bali's sights and activities. Sanur beach is close (about 12 miles) and Seminyak. Kuta and Legian are easy drives for a whole day out with a different vibe. Or you can go up the hill to Kintamani and the hot springs at Lake Batur in an hour or so. Temples abound everywhere - from Besakih, the "Mother Temple" to Tanah Lot on the ocean (two of the most famous and holy) and we can organize tours to anywhere on the island and to Lombok too....
Our on site villa staff will help you with all your needs from the wonderful daily cooked breakfasts, arranging tours and sightseeing, car or scooter rental, personal laundry and itineraries as well as giving you tips for the best shopping and massage in Ubud. A private chef can also be arranged to cook you traditional Indonesian cuisine right in the privacy of your own villa in your fully equipped kitchen. Or, if you would like to do it yourself, book a private cooking class. Our chef is very reasonable and an amazing cook! We can organize lunch or evening dinning in your villa which is truly one of our guests’ favorite experiences. Just ask our staff at check in and they'll be glad to take good care of you.
For those wishing to cook for themselves, we are only one mile away from the main supermarket (Coco supermarket) so you'll be able to stock up with local provisions.
It's slightly cooler in the Ubud area than the beach. A/C is not needed at Harmony due to our location right on the edge of the rice fields. We almost always get a breeze and the Sungai has 4 powerful overhead fans and a huge high ceiling to keep the air flowing. The breezes complemented by ceiling fans are usually enough to keep you cool even at the warmest time of year. You'll find our design for indoor/outdoor living works for your comfort.
The Villa is available for daily rental (2 night minimum please) or longer. Please ask us for rates for longer term stays (over 10 days) We do not have a set check in or out time to meet your needs if you are coming from outside of Bali. We can arrange airport pickup and drop off for you for a reasonable charge.
*** Please also note we must collect a 10% Indonesian government hotel tax payable upon check in which is payable in US$ or Indonesian Rupiah.

Depending on when you visit you’ll see the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. Interaction with Guests
I'm not always in Bali but our staff will look after you hand and foot. If I'm there I'm always available to give you tips and pointers on the best way to maximize your stay in Ubud and Bali.
Our village is still mostly agricultural and its a fascinating place to experience real Bali village life which can't be found in touristy areas such as Kuta or Seminyak. That's the lovely thing about our area of Lodtunduh village.
You'll likely encounter ceremonies, celebrations, weddings, a cremation perhaps (a big event in Bali) , the local temple festivals.
but most of all you'll see (depending on when you visit) the fascinating cycle of rice farming from preparing the fields, planting seedlings, thinning out the new rice, watching the ducks do their amazing dances, to harvesting, threshing and drying. You'll see the village men parade their fowl and perhaps experience a cockfight - while you may not approve, it's part of the culture here and if you are so inclined you can wager and maybe win!
There's a taxi service right in our village to take you to and from the airport (about $30) and into town (about $5) a few minutes away and we can also rent you scooters (and helmets!) for about $6 per day. There's parking at the villa. Please note although the airport is only about 20 miles away it can take about an hour and a half. The roads are small and there's a lot of traffic in Bali!
Villa Sungai is one of five villas at Harmony and while Harmony is large enough so each Villa is private, it's small enough for community. We don't have a lot of rules except have maximum fun and relaxation
We ask you respect other guests privacy as they will yours and please don't smoke except on your private deck (not inside the villa). There's some basic stuff about being in a tropical environment; our staff will advise you on arrival. Please also note that although we love children Harmony is not designed to be a child safe property and if you do book with children you will need to be totally responsible for them at all times..
We do have a few suggestions though....
We like to suggest you support the village shops where you can buy beer and snacks from the locals rather than going into town.
We have a resident dog called Trixie. She's a real sweetheart. Enjoy her.
Watch the rice... it's mesmerizing.
Rice field is very beautiful, there are two French windows which face the rice field, after it was open, the whole house is hugging with rice field which is amazing.
Problems is there are some dirty thing in the floor in the morning, some looks like shit of mouse, some may bring by the rain.
Dear Yanfeng, thank you for your feedback. Glad you had a lovely time. We hope you'll come back to Bali.
What you see in the villa in the morning is not from mice but from geckos. They come and go from outside and unfortunately they do leave a tiny mess sometimes. This is why we have a thorough cleaning each day. We can control some of the animals but not geckos! You'll find them in almost every building in Bali.
Lovely and peaceful. Fabulous pool, friendly and helpful staff. You can walk into ubud but no fotpath in some places which makes it dangerous. Staff directed us how to go through rice paddies which was lovely and interesting. Reommend this place for the views and peace.
Amazing, amazing, unbelievable views. Super close to central Ubud but just far enough to be quiet. The accommations and staff were great. Every morning they came in and made us breakfast. Such a wonderful experience for both my mom and brother who were visiting.
Felt very welcome here, very friendly staff. Beautiful views and amazing breakfast. Nice quiet area just 10 minute scooter ride into the main town. We left early the second day for a sunrise hike but wish we could have stayed longer! Beautiful bathrooms and rooms, big and spacious. Nice lounging deck and infinity pool.
Our accomodation was delightful, and better than anticipated. We struck it lucky with there being a further two weeks before harvesting so views were sensational! Highly recommend this villa.
The villa is about 5 minutes from central ubud (taxi fares about $50,000IDR/$5.00NZD). Staff were lovely and always available for any quest requirements. Although the villa is quite isolated, we always felt very safe.
We would definitely stay here again if we ever return to Bali.
The villa is just amazing - very spacious and facing the rice fields. The bed and badrooms are huge and the cieling high. The pool was right in front of our door and we enjoyed to jump in first thing in the morning.
The conversation with Elaine was easy and she responded to all our questions in no time. The staff on site were very friendly. The manager welcomed us at arrival and gave us all important information.
In the morning breakfast was cooked and served in our villa, which we appreciated very much. It seemed little strange that our kitchen was also used to cook the breakfast for the other villas. A small downside from being in the middle of the nature are the ants, which were all over also in our morning tea.
The villas are situated outside from Ubud. We walked twice in to the city. But the way along the main street is not advisable due to the traffic. The second time we went through the rice fields accompagnied by Trixi the dog from the villa, which was really peaceful and enjoyable.
A good advice is to take a taxi - the owner of the warong close to the villa has taken us for only 5$.
We enjoyed our time at Harmony Villas very much and we can highly recommend it!

I've created Harmony Villas with my Balinese friend Wayan Nama in a modern tropical minimalist style to reflect our joint passions - connection with the land, no clutter, beauty and a wonderful environment.
