We had a wonderful winter weekend here exploring Charlottesville and hiking Old Rag mountain. The house is great for a group with a big kitchen table to gather around and plenty and spacious rooms. Fiona made sure the house was nice and warm for our arrival and everything we could possibly need was available, she was really helpful and easily contactable for advice. The surrounding area is beautiful, the horses came over to say hello in the mornings which delighted our 2 year old! Thank you Fiona, we would definitely recommend your place!
Family and friends [ 8 of us ] stayed here while in the Charlottesville area for my son's wedding. We all had adequate privacy, along with a spacious kitchen dining area and living room. It was everything I desired: homey, spacious, and relaxing. We were here during a bitter 4 degree cold snap, and stayed warm and cozy. Fiona was a wonderful host making sure we had everything we needed.
The farmhouse and Fiona (owner) were both GREAT! Fiona was so helpful and answered my millions of questions extremely promptly. There were times when she responded within 5 minutes! The house was charming and beautiful. We had a great time! It was also great that we got to feed and pet her horses and walk all around her amazingly beautiful property. We went for our New Year's Eve celebration and couldn't have picked a better place. The kitchen had everything we needed, the bedrooms were comfortable and had plenty of blankets, and the chiminea was a great addition for us to use on the cold night! I can't say enough positive things about our experience.
We had a great family Christmas celebration at the farm. The house is 'lived in' which we loved, because it was very homey and inviting. The living room looks more formal in the photo than in person, and again we found it very comfortable with a great open feel between the kitchen, dining area and living room. The house is a true old farmhouse that has been added onto over its lifetime, and consequently has quirky charm like confusing stairways and secret bedrooms. Its not a pristine place, which is precisely what we liked about it, but if you want a 'perfect' place with mints on the pillow, this isn't the place for you. One member of our party complained about an uncomfortable bed, but the rest of us were very happy. And the property is great! It's a working farm with horses and cattle, but also with large hayfields you can walk across and gorgeous views. You really feel like you're in the heart of Virginia, and Fiona was very helpful and accommodating.
Looking for a place to go for the holidays, have a family reunion or take a vacation? We found it at March Hill Farm this Thanksgiving. 9 people (including 2 teen-agers) plus 2 children under the age of 3 and 1 small dog, all stayed comfortably in this charming, rustic farm house in the beautiful Virginia countryside. We baked pies, cooked a turkey with all the trimmings, and fed apples to the horses. Also took a family excursion into Charlottesville to see a movie. Fiona is a gracious host and very willing to provide assistance or answer any questions.
We loved our stay. Fiona is tremendously hospitable and generous. We picked figs off her tree and she personally introduced the girls to her horses. The grounds are beautiful and her home charming.
We spend a long weekend with thee aduts, two small kids, and a newborn. The place was perfect for us - comfortable and well-equipped. Fiona was eager to make us comfortable.
THIS IS THE ONLY PLACE FOR KIDS !!!!!!
They didn't want to leave the farm for cultural activities.
The farm house was a great place for our family reunion with 4 bedrooms and 2 baths. The house is older, so don't expect everything to be brand new, with that in mind, we were comfortable with all of the amenities that were provided: washer dryer, refrigerator, microwave, dishwasher etc. We enjoyed feeding carrots and apples to the horses and 3 week old colt. Fiona was kind enough to take our son horse back riding on Friday morning. The location is ideal to wineries, historical places or a trip to Washington DC. Be sure to visit Yoders Country store. The view of the mountains is beautiful, the stars at night shine so bright, with many fireflies to be seen. Would like to come and visit again soon.
Fiona was a fabulous host. She was eager to show us around the farm and show us all its wonderful features. From the raspberry bush to the hot tub to the beautiful horses, the farm was a delight for all the senses. The house was clean and homey; it accommodated all of us, including our five year-old daughter. Be sure to sit in the hammock at night and take in the amazing stars!
