The Space

March Hill Farm
Come and stay in my spacious farmhouse with 2000 acres of farmland surrounding. Huge mountain views and sunsets. I love this home and feel sure you will too. Close to all the famous vineyards, hiking in the Nat Park, riding on the farm, antique shops, fine dining. Charlottesville, Orange, Culpeper are close by. Washington DC 1hr 45 min. House comes equipped with everything you will need to cook indoors or outside on the terrace.

Enjoy wonderful sunsets over the rolling farmland to the majestic Blue Ridge mountains. Lots of space with 2 living rooms, enclosed porch, 4 bedrooms, dining room, laundry and 2 full baths. Hot tub.

Located in the area of the historic Jacks Shop Civil War battle, close to Montpelier and many other historic homes and museums. Opportunities for hot air ballooning, skeet shooting, golf, polo, fox hunting, kayaking, hiking trails, riding lessons (at the farm) and of course the local music festival. Hunt for Civil War treasures. Lots of vineyards with tasting rooms nearby. Great antique shops just minutes away.

The Shenandoah National Park is minutes away and the hiking trails are great, all the way up to the Skyline Drive if you have the energy!
House sleeps 9. Washer, Dryer, dishwasher, 2 tvs, fire pit, hammocks etc!
If you are coming from overseas you can fly into Dulles (Washington DC) or to CHO (Charlottesville Airport) which is only 15 minutes away. I love the opportunity to show you this beautiful part of the world.
Additional note: SWIM in the famous clear waters of the Rapidan River, just 5 min from the house and completely private.

Guest Access

House, garden, fresh raspberries, figs, and whatever else is in the garden! Walk or play in the fields. Swimming in the Rapidan is just down the road.

Interaction with Guests

No, I will not be present - but am not far away if anything is needed and I go to the barn to feed the horses.

The Neighborhood

Love it for the wide open spaces, the views of the mountains, the proximity to the vineyards, historic sites and Charlottesville. Grocery store is just minutes away. Skyline Drive is just 20 minutes from here as well. Fantastic hiking in the Shenandoah Nat Park.

Getting around

15 minutes to CHO airport. Taxis available there.

  • We had a lovely time in the beautiful farmhouse - though we spent little time at the residence itself. Our time was busy and filled with UVA Graduation festivities - but we truly appreciated the close location and the change of pace.

  • The scenery here tells the story...beautiful, pastoral, rustic. It's a classic old farmhouse filled with treasures from times gone by. You will feel like you have stepped right in to your grandmother's farm house.
Fiona came and went - we saw her a few times. There are the normal things you would find in a rural setting - you might have to shoo away a stink bug or two. If you are a city-slicker this is not the place for you.

  • Our family group of 7 (2 adults, 3 senior citizens, 2 children) had a great time at this property! Fiona was extremely helpful and generous with her time, sharing local knowledge and providing the kids with riding lessons. Very pretty location, easy access to Charlottesville, Monticello and Shenandoah. The kids made s'mores while the grandparents chatted outside after dinner. Overall, a very relaxing and easy stay. Thanks again!

  • We had a great stay at Fiona's Antique Farmhouse. The house comfortably slept 9 people and had all of the appliances and dishes we needed to cook a few meals. The shower wasn't the hottest, but that's what comes with 9 girls showering in a row! The house is close to Charlottesville but the route we took had a lot of stop lights and took us about 40 minutes. Very close to Early Mountain Vineyard, which we really enjoyed.

    Thanks, Fiona!

  • We had a wonderful winter weekend here exploring Charlottesville and hiking Old Rag mountain. The house is great for a group with a big kitchen table to gather around and plenty and spacious rooms. Fiona made sure the house was nice and warm for our arrival and everything we could possibly need was available, she was really helpful and easily contactable for advice. The surrounding area is beautiful, the horses came over to say hello in the mornings which delighted our 2 year old! Thank you Fiona, we would definitely recommend your place!

  • Family and friends [ 8 of us ] stayed here while in the Charlottesville area for my son's wedding. We all had adequate privacy, along with a spacious kitchen dining area and living room. It was everything I desired: homey, spacious, and relaxing. We were here during a bitter 4 degree cold snap, and stayed warm and cozy. Fiona was a wonderful host making sure we had everything we needed.

  • The farmhouse and Fiona (owner) were both GREAT! Fiona was so helpful and answered my millions of questions extremely promptly. There were times when she responded within 5 minutes! The house was charming and beautiful. We had a great time! It was also great that we got to feed and pet her horses and walk all around her amazingly beautiful property. We went for our New Year's Eve celebration and couldn't have picked a better place. The kitchen had everything we needed, the bedrooms were comfortable and had plenty of blankets, and the chiminea was a great addition for us to use on the cold night! I can't say enough positive things about our experience.

  • We had a great family Christmas celebration at the farm. The house is 'lived in' which we loved, because it was very homey and inviting. The living room looks more formal in the photo than in person, and again we found it very comfortable with a great open feel between the kitchen, dining area and living room. The house is a true old farmhouse that has been added onto over its lifetime, and consequently has quirky charm like confusing stairways and secret bedrooms. Its not a pristine place, which is precisely what we liked about it, but if you want a 'perfect' place with mints on the pillow, this isn't the place for you. One member of our party complained about an uncomfortable bed, but the rest of us were very happy. And the property is great! It's a working farm with horses and cattle, but also with large hayfields you can walk across and gorgeous views. You really feel like you're in the heart of Virginia, and Fiona was very helpful and accommodating.

  • Looking for a place to go for the holidays, have a family reunion or take a vacation? We found it at March Hill Farm this Thanksgiving. 9 people (including 2 teen-agers) plus 2 children under the age of 3 and 1 small dog, all stayed comfortably in this charming, rustic farm house in the beautiful Virginia countryside. We baked pies, cooked a turkey with all the trimmings, and fed apples to the horses. Also took a family excursion into Charlottesville to see a movie. Fiona is a gracious host and very willing to provide assistance or answer any questions.

I have travelled all over and know how I would love to just be "at home" when I arrive. No beds to make, no major unpacking of groceries - there is a shop nearby - and a cool drink on the terrace to relax and plan my tomorrows. Maybe a ride, maybe some golf, a hike by the water or take those water colors I see on the porch and get those creative juices flowing! Sometimes it is wonderful to look at the flower beds overflowing with every color - and know that you do not have to do the weeding! Come and enjoy, come and stay.
