Hotel Dunsmuir is the most haunted place in Northern California. And it's only 3.5 hrs from the Bay Area!

The hotel dates back to the gold rush days of the late 1800s, in the sleepy mountain railroad town from which it gets its name.
The hotel is host to numerous ghosts, and has been featured on the show "Ghost Finders". It's highlighted in "Ripley's Believe it or Not" as the famous "Upside Down Hotel".
It's so notorious in fact that a Hollywood film of the same name was recently filmed there.

The space
Find out why: It's the famous "Ripley's Believe It or Not" Upside Down Hotel - you enter the lobby and ...
A 2 minute walking distance from the Amtrak, downtown shops and restaurants, and the Sacramento River.
This old hotel offers a stay like no other! Built in the early 1920’s by Abner Weed, and originally called “The Weed Hotel,” Hotel Dunsmuir burned to the ground and was rebuilt in the 1940’s in traditional 40’s Art Deco Style. The post fire renovations were built around the building’s original brick skeleton. With the re-opening of the hotel in 1947 it again became known as “Dunsmuir’s finest”.
Once the largest city north of Sacramento, travelers visited Dunsmuir for its lively culture, pure healing water, and incredible natural beauty. Hotel Dunsmuir offered the most extravagant accommodations available in town and was once frequented by wealthy travelers and movie stars.
After almost 100 years, the building is in the process of being revived yet again. The rooms available are uniquely themed and feature a full kitchen, sitting room, bedroom and bathroom. Relax, explore the town’s rich history, soak up the incredible natural beauty and pure glacial drinking water, and support our efforts to restore The Hotel Dunsmuir.

Other things to note
We are located next to the Amtrak train station. And look out for the ghosts!

Location

Dunsmuir, California, United States

Located in the Shasta Cascade area of Northern California, Dunsmuir is a popular destination for tourists. Visitors come to fish trout in the Sacramento and McCloud Rivers, or to see and climb Mount Shasta, Castle Crags or the Trinity Alps. Visitors ski (both alpine and cross-country) and bicycle, or can hike to the waterfalls, streams and lakes in the area, including nearby Mossbrae Falls, Hedge Creek Falls, Lake Siskiyou, Castle Lake and Shasta Lake.

Dunsmuir is located on the Upper Sacramento River, a blue ribbon trout stream that attracts fishermen from all over the world. Wild rainbow trout abound in the river. Additionally, the City has a private stocking permit from the Department of Fish and Game. The City currently has a "Big Fish Program" and stocks the river within the city limits with trophy-sized rainbow trout up to 14 pounds (6.4 kg). These stockings take place during the summer months. Catch-and-Release fishing is permitted in the river during the off-season, so fly-fishing is available year round.

The town is also a destination for historical and cultural tourists, as the town has preserved an authentic 1920s and 1930s look and feel. Dunsmuir's long connection with the railroad draws railfans to enjoy the sights and sounds of the railroad in the steep Sacramento River canyon. Dunsmuir is officially a Union Pacific "Train Town" and enjoys many financial benefits because of its relationship with the railroad.

Dunsmuir has frequent events that draw people from far and wide. Dunsmuir has been described by many as an ideal venue. During the summer, the City hosts many local weekend festivals, including "State of Jefferson Brewfest", "Dogwood Daze", "Railroad Days" and the "Tribute to the Trees" al fresco dinner/concert along the river in the City's pristine park, home to Dunsmuir Botanical Gardens. These events, along with the wonderful work done by the volunteers of the Botanical Gardens, bring joy to those visiting Dunsmuir. The City also has another river's edge park, Tauhlindahli Park, over which passes Interstate Five, and several popular easy access fishing spots.
