I will be out of town the following dates and you will have the place all to yourself:
Dear traveler...you can stay in your own private room in a cute little house in walking distance to Alberta Arts District hotspots. Amenities include tempur-pedic king size bed, garden veggie abundance, farmer's market, bicycles in all shapes and sizes (with locks and lights!), dog and cat love, nearby parks/bike paths, wifi, flat screen tv/dvd/Apple TV/Netflix, friendly neighborhood bars, farm to market restaurant and butcher shop, trendy shops, and a local roaster coffee shop.
Conveniently located just 10 minutes from the PDX airport and an easy 35 minute jaunt to downtown via the bus/max line. In addition to being walking distance to Alberta Arts district, it is easily accessible to the quaint Beaumont and Hollywood neighborhoods.
For dog lovers, there is a fenced in dog park directly across the street from my house at Meeker Technical School and my back yard is fenced in as well.
I leave town often...so I may or may not be around, but if I am...would be into making a meal or two. Very close to main public transit lines to take you all over town. My favorite neighborhood hotspots are New Seasons Market, Old Salt Deli and Restaurant, Miss Zumstein's Bakery and Coffee Shop with locally roasted Extracto Coffee (both just opened!), Common Grounds Wellness Center for hot tubs and saunas ((website hidden)) and the Kennedy School for more hot tubs, food, and movies. I have a collection of Portland and Oregon travel guide books and maps to help plan your adventures.
Whether it's an overnight stay or a month long sublet, you will find many amenities in one of the best neighborhoods in Portland.
My house is your house--you are welcome to share my home and take advantage of all the perks in the house.
Interaction with Guests
Our interactions will vary depending on my work schedule and travels. You might not see me for a couple days, or we could end up hanging out and having dinner together. I am really flexible and open to whatever interactions if I am around and not busy working.
The best part of the Alberta Arts district is the internationally recognized amazing food (it's a foodies paradise) and walkability of my neighborhood!
Yes--the number 75 & 72 bus are very close by! Just a block away. The 75 will take you to the max in the Hollywood district and you can make it downtown no problem in 25-30 minutes if you time it right.
Street or off street parking is available.
Other Things to Note
The bedroom is basically designed for sleeping and not much else. The bed is comfy and amazing, but you can't do somersaults in it! It's a small house. :)
I live in a quiet residential neighborhood, so mellow times after 11pm.
I would be happy to host a friendly and well-trained 4 legged dog traveler friend. There are many off leash dog parks in close vicinity to my house, including right across the street!
Your dog needs to be well behaved with adequate supervision--no jumping on furniture, digging in the yard...etc.
I am a light drinker, a beer or glass of wine or two here or there. If you like to get sloshed and come home drunk/wasted...this is not the air bnb house for you. I have had a couple air bnb guests with heavy drinking times and that is energy I prefer not to have in my personal space since we are sharing the house.
LGTBTQ friendly please.
Must like dogs and cats, or at least tolerate their presence.
No smoking on the premises.
It's a shoe free home...I am trying to maintain my hardwood floors as long as I can. I will provide slippers if you forgot to pack them. :)
I can't think of any other major rules. I hope you find my home a warm, cozy, and comforting space to return to from your days exploring the city.
We enjoyed our short stay with Debbie, Tiny (dog), and Shed (cat): this family's definitely our speed! Debbie's warm, considerate, and easy-going; she's there to answer your questions and give you what you need, but otherwise goes on with her life and simply makes you feel temporarily part of it.
We felt right at home in Debbie's house. We also enjoyed the company of her dog and cat. The bedroom has a huge Tempur-pedic bed that you sink right into. We also loved the super fast WiFi. We only got to meet Debbie for a quick moment but she was very sweet. This is a great location close to the Alberta arts district.
We very much enjoyed our stay. Debbie was kind and welcoming, while also giving us space. The vibe was relaxed and progressive and the nice books and records collection was a nice addition. The rooms are close to each as it is a small house (as mentionned in the description) and so noise did travel a bit. However, Debbie was careful in accommodating to our schedule. The house is located in a nice area and the bikes we're a major perk!
We only stayed for a couple of nights and met Debbie briefly but she was very friendly (and so was her dog Tiny). But like others have said, I would recommend staying only if you like dogs because Tiny's presence isn't so tiny :) (he is a total sweetheart, though). The neighborhood is cute and the house is super close to a bus stop, which is nice. As for the room, it is as advertised, and the bed is huge and super comfortable. The house is as advertised, too, meaning it is very small and you can hear everything (so maybe not the best if you want to sleep in). But you definitely get that Portland vibe staying here and Debbie seemed really cool.
Debbie made us feel very welcome. We only got to chat with her for a few minutes but she seems super nice. The room met our needs and the bed was very comfortable. We knew that there was a large dog (Tiny) and we love big dogs so it wasn't an issue. Guests should know that he likes to "mouth" your hands, and growls on occasion. Debbie said that he's very vocal and I've read nothing but positive things about him, but he did make my daughter and I feel uncomfortable. We arrived when Debbie wasn't there and it was unnerving to be greeted by a loose large dog (in his territory). The house itself is cute but definitely lived in. It's a perfect fit for someone that's a little less type A than myself. :)
Dear Cheryl, I am sorry to hear that Tiny made you super uncomfortable and that you felt that way. I was not under that impression when I returned home post work/dinner and you said it was not a big deal at all that he was mouthy/playful. And yes, he greets people when they arrive and has always been welcoming when people show up and that has never been an issue. It is true, I do live in my house and it has Portland charm. I provide a laid back welcoming environment and encourage the same vibe from guests.
I stayed w/ Debbie for 3 nights. Let me first say that you must be a pet/animal lover of you are going to stay here. Shed the cat is a total Love and a total Clingon! And Tiny the dog is a sweetie as well. I loved having them around and they were never a bother.
Debbie's place is small and quaint and exactly what I wanted. Located in a really cool neighborhood. A quick walk to the Alberta Arts District. Awesome street with no shortage of great restaurants, pubs and shops. After meandering down there it's easy to hop on the #8 bus right into downtown. There is also public transport close by Debbie's house as well.
Got to meet Debbie for a few minutes the last night as well. Very nice and very accommodating. I really enjoyed my stay there!
Debbies house was great awesome spot and super friendly cat. Was everything she said it would be and more. I had the place all to myself, a real quaint quiet place to recharge. Thanks Debbie
I am really excited to host guests from Airbnb! I travel extensively stateside, but haven't had much of a chance to travel internationally lately. I have been the recipient of many a kind stranger providing me hospitality during my world travels and I am looking forward to offering the same to others.
