Well situated near commuter rail and bus into Boston (10-15 min.), quiet neighborhood, bedroom(s) and bath, close to the colleges -- short walk to Boston College, short drive to B.U., Harvard, Brandeis, Bapson, Bentley, can sleep 2-3 in one room, 2 in another, 140 year old restored Victorian, with lovely yard, deck and outdoor hot tub. Kitchen and comfortable living room with fireplace. You can't get much better than being a stones throw from Boston without the noise of being in the middle of everything.
Note that reservation is listed for one room. An additional room, also pictured, is available for an additional $100 per night. The bathroom is shared for these two rooms. The pricing on the website states an additional charge of $50 per person for more than 2 people. This means an additional $100 for two people in the additional bedroom. The web site does not make it so easy if you have two bedrooms.
Light use of the kitchen as well as the deck and yard.
Interaction with Guests
We love visiting with guests but are also on the move ourselves. While we are happy to provide guidance and ideas for visitors, we do not hover and encourage our guests to come and go as they please. Our guests usually have their own busy itineraries.
Our Neighbor has lots of trees and open space and is filled with a great variety of unique houses. Within 10 minutes walk is one of the boroughs of Newton - Newtonville Center which offers a bread shop, several coffee shops, some restaurants and shops - and a family-run pet store.
The Commuter rail into Fenway, Back Bay and South Station is a 5-8 minute walk. Also 5-8 minutes away are buses that will take you right into Boston as well as Watertown.
Late evening arrivals are fine if you are very quiet, no smoking, must be ok with dog - cockapoo, who is friendly and does not shed. Request no perfume if possible. Check-out is on the morning of your check-out day - but let me know if you need a different arrangement. Dependent upon the day I can be very flexible.
Alice and I emailed back and forth before we arrived, getting all our questions answered and making finding her home easy. The neighborhood is quiet and in a great location, just off 90, close to the T and restaurants and a Whole Foods.
The room and bath worked out perfectly. It was a large room, very comfortable with a sense of privacy.
Alice was lovely; very welcoming and interesting. We thoroughly enjoyed visiting with her. Because my husband can't walk far with his new hip she also offered to drive us into Newton center to catch the T into town. We highly recommend Alice's home as a comfortable and enjoyable place to stay in the Boston area.
The 2-day stay with Alice was wonderful! She's such a nice and cool person and made every thing so easy. I absolutely love her and this great experience. The neighborhood is lovely, and there's commuter rail that sends you to downtown.
The bedroom is large and comfortable, and I had my own bathroom. There is also a nice desk that I actually did lots of work with. I'm positive that I'll come back in the future!
The description of the home, location and host does not do this posting justice. Alice was not only the epitome of a gracious host, but her home was also large and welcoming. The rooms we stayed in were spacious and comfortable. One room was large enough to fit three, and the second room was the perfect size for two. Upon arrival, Alice even provided us with an additional air mattress so that we could be even more comfortable. The area is a peaceful and quiet neighborhood, not far from Newton Centre or BC's Newton Campus, which was ideal for us. There was even space to park. All in all, it was great.
Wonderful host, beautiful and homey house, and a cute dog to top it off - my colleagues and I couldn't have asked for a better place to stay during our work trip! The rooms are bright and spacious and the house is in a great location. I can't wait to stay here again during my next trip to the Boston area!
Lovely, large room in Newton with separate, non-shared bathroom. Alice and Dave were gracious hosts and accommodating in terms of arrival and departure timing. Great location walkable to public transportation.
What a charming and spacious home. Alice made us feel welcome from the start. We had a nice, big bed in our room, plus a couch and a desk. The large windows let in a nice breeze. Alice was helpful in recommendations around town and how to get around. She was also great to chat with in general. She made bread for us to enjoy each morning. Their dog started out barking but let us pet him soon enough. Very gentle. Would love to visit again! Thanks, Alice! P.S. Cabot's Ice Cream Parlor was a great recommendation within walking distance. We had dessert there every night. ;o)
