The space

The flat is in the 3th floor of a 18th century building with stone and wood staircases, and 19th century tiles in the walls.

The building façades are facing North and South. It has a magnificent old city view towards the North. (Bairro Alto, São Bento, Estrela and Príncipe Real).
The area and the building are residential and quite peaceful.

The flat has been recently renovated (September 2012). In the renovation, carefully done under the supervision of an architect, the apartment was entirely rehabilitated.
All materials used in the construction are 100% natural/ ecological: wooden structure and boarding, natural stone floors, and traditional lime mortar in the walls. All together they greatly enhance the quality of the inner environment, guaranteeing you the difference in your stay.
Despite the big remodelling, the spirit of the traditional Pombaline architecture remains intact and prevails in such elements as the fireplace, the tiled walls, the peach pine doors, and door and windows massive oak shutters.

The apartment is, so to say, a 80 square meters space.
The entry hall, with wooden flooring and traditional wooden ceiling communicates with the living, the dinning-room, master bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.
There are two separated bedrooms:
the master bedroom equipped with a double bed; (window toward the city view - North)
and the secondary bedroom also equipped with a double bed (window toward the main façade - South)
In each bedroom two sliding panels (a wooden one and glass one) separate them from the dinning-room. This configuration allow you to create more or less intimacy, more open or closed spaces, and to make light cross the 3 rooms.

The living room is a quite cosy place. The large acacia floor boards are unique! Then, over a large carpet, you find the sofa, two armchairs, a couple of chairs and all accessories (TV set, DVD player, Hi-Fi set and a few DVDs). There are cultivated flower pots outside the windows.

The dinning room, was designed, inspired by a bistro ambiance. There are two wood and grey marble tables and chairs, and above them, a very dim light coming from two industrial 70's lamps suspended by the ceiling. For a breakfast or a luncheon in family you can open completely the sliding panels and get all the light in.

In the kitchen, the main piece is the old chimney. You will be cooking in its interior! The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, refrigerator (no freezer though), microwave-grill, and electrical hob. In the drawers and cabinets you will find everything that you will be needing. Everything pretty tidy and clean! By the window you'll see a beautiful 'jacarandá tree' with its violet flower mass just in front of it and the Northern Hills (Bairro Alto, São Bento, Estrela and Príncipe Real)

The bathroom is designed both in white marble and Portuguese traditional tiles. A wall mirror brings lisbon's light and views into the room. The marble shower has an incredible view to the North side of the city!

In the interior, the 6 existing windows allow a lot of natural light to come in. By night, the lighting design is simple, subtle and thus comfortable.
There is cable TV and wi-fi internet free of charge.
In each bedroom, living, dinning room and bathroom, there are electric heaters at your disposal.

Santa Catarina

The flat is located in the Bairro of Santa Catarina, in the historical centre of Lisbon.
Santa Catarina is an old quarter which blends both magnificent palaces and 18th and 19th century housing. It has a wonderful location on the top of a hill facing the Tagus River and its margins. Due to constrained traffic access, it has a very peaceful neighbourhood. Organized alongside a small garden is the sightseeing place "Miradouro de Santa Catarina", from where you would want to enjoy the astonishing view of the city and river.
A 3 minutes walk brings you either to Bairro Alto or to Chiado, where you can experience the Portuguese gastronomy and have a feel of the Bairro Alto's night life in its bars and discos.
A 10 minutes walk brings you to Baixa - down town, one of Lisbon's best shopping areas, an exquisite association of modern stores and old boutiques. Baixa is also one of the oldest districts of the capital, its streets converging to the famous Praça do Comércio, historical door from where all the spices, gold, silk and other various unknown treasures entered Europe during the splendorous years of the great discoveries.

At 100 meters from the flat, you can catch the famous tramway #28 that covers the sightseeing tour of Lisbon's hills.
Just beside the flat, Bica tramway railway takes you down to Cais-do-Sodré where you will find the tramways to Belém and the trains to Cascais. If you'd rather walk note that you can enjoy a 5 minutes walk aside the tramway rail line and down the Bica quarter.
Cais do Sodré also has a port of embarkation to cross the Tagus River. The back trip is an amazing journey that helps understanding the city's growth along its' seven hills.
In between Chiado, Baixa and Cais-do-Sodré you have access to diverse public transportation (bus, train, tram and subway) which can deliver you directly to any point in the city.
Due to the flat's central location and the proximity of many of Lisbon's interest points, a few minutes walk will be a delight and surely another point of view of the city's landscape.

Pedro's place is absolutely beautiful. The most clean and stunning place we have stayed in Portugal. The shower and the views are so beautiful at night. We were so worried about sleeping without air conditioner, as Lisboa is very hot during the day, but with his very modern windows and the cool Lisboa nights, we were comfortable all night. Although we didn't meet Pedro, he was easily accessible and super helpful with all of our questions. Pedro has such beautiful things in his apartment, some of which are very delicate! I would be wary of young bringing children into his place. For example, there were glass doors that we were too scared to open, in fear of causing damage. But to people who are not accident prone like we are, it's such a stunning touch. I was doing laundry and knocked over a ceramic holder for the clothes pins, which broke in half. I felt awful and quickly messaged Pedro that I wanted to replace it. He was so awesome about it and told me not to worry. Being that I respect the airbnb community, I felt it was important to replace it, so I did. I mean if it were my place, it's something I would appreciate and he was thankful. Something important to note, when you get into the apartment there is a house guest manual of rules including quiet hours, dishwashing preferences, window management, washing makeup off before using linens and so on. It is easy to see how he maintains such a pristine place with these specific sets of rules. If you follow them, you'll make the following guests stay just as amazing as your own! With that, some of our group felt scared to ruin anything in the apartment, it is that beautiful! One night we were walking up the stairs after dinner, and perhaps walking up a bit too loudly and we were met by an unhappy neighbor in the staircase. Not sure if it was us or she was expected someone, but we felt awful. The next morning she was super nice and wished us a good morning so we hope we didn't make too bad of an impression! Pedro's place is super close to night life! So if you're looking to travel with a young group of friends to party and come home without worry, I'm not sure that this is the place for you. We found the building itself to be super quiet, but the nightlife carried over into the street. If you sleep with the windows open and you're in the front room, it can be a bit noisy. Overall the place is the most clean and stunning place I have been to. If you don't mind some rules, quiet hours and so on this place will exceed your expectations in Lisboa!!

Pedro blew it out of the water! Pictures do NOT do this place justice - it's gorgeous on the inside, both architecturally and designed. Pedro was a great host, greeting us when we arrived after a long day of traveling with a tour and a bottle of wine to settle in. The apartment is located in the best possible place - right in the heart of Lisbon. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and can't wait to return!

Pedro was great with instructions about check in, check out, and generally friendly. The apartment was very modern, renovated in an older building. We eat in, and the kitchen was very handy. The location, 2 blocks from Sta Catalina viewpoint and 2 blocks from the 28 E tramline, was excellent.

Pedro's place was perfect for our weekend stay in Lisbon. It is in a great location close to all attractions, transportation, restaurants and nightlife. The building is beautiful and the apartment itself is just amazing. The design is very creative and authentic. The kitchen is large and bathroom is also great with a nice view of the city. In addition, it was very easy to get in touch with Pedro about everything we needed before and during the stay. Overall, it is a beautiful and very comfortable place in a great location for exploring and enjoying Lisbon.

We were very pleased to spend a weekend in Lisbon at Pedro's apartment near the Miradouro de Santa Catarina. Friends who live in Lisbon told us they wished they had apartments as nice as this one! The home was stylish, comfortable, and convenient to the city's most visited neighborhoods. While we were not able to meet Pedro personally due to some scheduling conflicts, he was quite responsive regarding the check-in process and clearly wanted us to enjoy our stay, which we did.

I live in lisbon, in the historical center. I often say that this city is one of the best cities for living in the world! I am an architect and passionate for ancient building rehabilitation. I love French bistrôts, dinning out with friends and an interesting conversation. love…
