A well-loved home; a charming space, full of colour & character. A well-travelled & experienced host who genuinely enjoys sharing her home with people from all walks of life. A comfortable, clean bed, & plenty of tea, toast & jam for breakfast...
Hi! Welcome to my profile! I have a simple and clean double-room to rent to either a single guest or a couple. I would describe my home as comfortable, colourful and just on the right side of cluttered! I live here with my cat, Ariettie (a lovely soul). The house is situated on a pretty, tree-lined and quiet avenue, not far from Manchester city centre. You can walk to the centre of town from here in about 40 minutes or you can take 1 of several local bus routes and jump off in Piccadilly in about 20 minutes. For those wishing to go in the other direction, there are also bus routes to Didsbury village and Withington a short walk away, and no matter which way you're going, you can always stop in at the Curry Mile for a plate of thali and a cup of chai before you go. Delicious! For those of you coming from the airport, I live about 6 miles away and a taxi ride will cost you between £15 - £20 to get to my door; there is also the Number 43 bus which leaves the airport and comes through my area, which you can jump on for a fraction of the cost of a taxi. There's plenty of room here for parking on the street outside the house if you come by car.
If the weather is nice then my colourful yard out the back is a great sun-trap and the perfect place for a cup of tea and toast with marmalade in the morning. Sometimes I even get to hear my neighbours singing in their showers before work! It's also the place where you are more than welcome to sit and have a cigarette or 2, if you are so inclined. If the weather is bad - as it often can be here - then I even have an umbrella you can borrow when you're out there!
I have a basic Virgin package with digital TV, and this includes Wifi, which guests are of course welcome to use. There is a small flat-screen TV in your room, plus several local guide books and a map of the city-centre, to help you find your way. I am also happy to provide clean bed linen and bath towels, so no need to worry about packing these things.
As a host, I always make the effort to make sure people have what they need when they stay in my home. I want people to feel welcome and comfortable. As a local Manchester lass, I have a great knowledge of the city's layout and all the neighbouring towns... from here you can go up into the hills of Derbyshire or The Lake District (both an hour away), you can go and catch a Manchester United football game at Old Trafford, or maybe visit the lights and coast of the classic British holiday resort of Blackpool. Manchester has an eclectic array of music venues, cinemas, restaurants, sporting venues, museums and galleries, and I will always be happy to point my guests towards the things they may enjoy. I want people to leave my home and my city having had a good time, with fond memories, but before then, I look forward to welcoming you...
Please may I just ask any potential guests to ensure that they have some sort of Airbnb profile up and running before making contact. We hosts need to be able to see who wants to come and stay in our homes! Please have a profile with photos and information, and ideally a few references from friends. This helps us to feel more confident about offering you the room, otherwise you are a complete stranger and it's not so easy to approve accommodation requests. Many thanks. x
Please may I also just strongly advise that if you are looking for the type of accommodation where it will be acceptable for you come and go in the middle of the night (i.e. after midnight) you read my profile NO further and look elsewhere for your accommodation. This is a small, private dwelling. Please do not come here if you intend to go out late and return much after midnight.
I would like my guests to treat my home as they would their own, and to respect me, my possessions and my place.
The house is relatively small, and the neighbourhood is quiet, and for this reason I suggest that any guests who may wish to stay out late (i.e. beyond midnight) and sleep during the day, look elsewhere for accommodation. My little home isn't run like a large city-centre hotel!!!
No additional overnight guests will be allowed to stay in my home unless it was part of the original arrangement.
Guests are welcome to use my washing machine and detergent, however, there will be a £3 charge per wash to cover costs... Cheaper than a launderette!
And no-smoking inside, please! Thank you very much.
Where to begin? From the moment I arrived I felt genuinely welcome. No sooner was I through the door than there was an offer of cup of tea and something to eat - very welcome after a long day. The accommodation is cosy and full of character - a true home from home. Laura is a lovely charming host and I look forward to staying again next time I'm visiting Manchester.
Laura was very welcoming, she has such a pretty house and all the details for a relaxed stay were there ie breakfast, towels etc
I was a little anxious at first as it was my first experience of this kind, but Laura was amazing. From the beginning she made me feel welcome. Her home was warm and cosy and I felt very safe. It was exactly as described on the website and I would encourage anyone to stay here.
Laura was unfortunately ill during our stay, but nevertheless managed to be a wonderful host. The house is absolutely gorgeous and comfortable, a hearty breakfast is available each morning and it's easy to reach by public transport. Having Laura's home to come back to really helped make our holiday memorable, I absolutely recomend it!
I have spend 4 wonderful weeks in Manchester on a placement, staying at Laura's place. She was a great host, very welcoming and helping with a sandwich buffet waiting for me on arrival and a few guides to Manchester in my room. I would book it again and again. The whole house is simply lovely.
Laura was unbelievably welcoming, friendly and always up for a chat. Her little house was equally lovely, in a perfect location just a minutes from the bus stop straight in to town, not only that but the house was cosy and homely. I am so glad I had the chance to stay with Laura who was the perfect host giving me advice on everything and always ensuring I was comfortable in her home.
I would 100% stay with Laura again if I return to Manchester.
Laura is a very nice person, she always gave us informations and advices enthusiastically. Her house is near the university, and have many buses to the city center. The room is clean and warm and sweet. If I would go to Manchester again, I still choose her house.
Just a little something to get us started... Things to love... travel, firstly. India is a particularly special destination for me and I returned there for the fifth time in November 2012; Cuba, Japan, and Hawaii are next on my list! My attitude to travelling is definitely pretty spontaneous... I'm not much of a planner and like to just figure things out as I go. My attitude to hosting is 'Minha casa é sua casa'... I want you to feel at home. I also love music and live gigs and summer festivals, camping, and taking photographs.
