About This Listing
A well-loved home; a charming space, full of colour & character. A well-travelled & experienced host who genuinely enjoys sharing her home with people from all walks of life. A comfortable, clean bed, & plenty of tea, toast & jam for breakfast...
Hi! Welcome to my profile! I have a simple and clean double-room to rent to either a single guest or a couple. I would describe my home as comfortable, colourful and just on the right side of cluttered! I live here with my cat, Ariettie (a lovely soul). The house is situated on a pretty, tree-lined and quiet avenue, not far from Manchester city centre. You can walk to the centre of town from here in about 40 minutes or you can take 1 of several local bus routes and jump off in Piccadilly in about 20 minutes. For those wishing to go in the other direction, there are also bus routes to Didsbury village and Withington a short walk away, and no matter which way you're going, you can always stop in at the Curry Mile for a plate of thali and a cup of chai before you go. Delicious! For those of you coming from the airport, I live about 6 miles away and a taxi ride will cost you between £15 - £20 to get to my door; there is also the Number 43 bus which leaves the airport and comes through my area, which you can jump on for a fraction of the cost of a taxi. There's plenty of room here for parking on the street outside the house if you come by car.
If the weather is nice then my colourful yard out the back is a great sun-trap and the perfect place for a cup of tea and toast with marmalade in the morning. Sometimes I even get to hear my neighbours singing in their showers before work! It's also the place where you are more than welcome to sit and have a cigarette or 2, if you are so inclined. If the weather is bad - as it often can be here - then I even have an umbrella you can borrow when you're out there!
I have a basic Virgin package with digital TV, and this includes Wifi, which guests are of course welcome to use. There is a small flat-screen TV in your room, plus several local guide books and a map of the city-centre, to help you find your way. I am also happy to provide clean bed linen and bath towels, so no need to worry about packing these things.
As a host, I always make the effort to make sure people have what they need when they stay in my home. I want people to feel welcome and comfortable. As a local Manchester lass, I have a great knowledge of the city's layout and all the neighbouring towns... from here you can go up into the hills of Derbyshire or The Lake District (both an hour away), you can go and catch a Manchester United football game at Old Trafford, or maybe visit the lights and coast of the classic British holiday resort of Blackpool. Manchester has an eclectic array of music venues, cinemas, restaurants, sporting venues, museums and galleries, and I will always be happy to point my guests towards the things they may enjoy. I want people to leave my home and my city having had a good time, with fond memories, but before then, I look forward to welcoming you...
Please may I just ask any potential guests to ensure that they have some sort of Airbnb profile up and running before making contact. We hosts need to be able to see who wants to come and stay in our homes! Please have a profile with photos and information, and ideally a few references from friends. This helps us to feel more confident about offering you the room, otherwise you are a complete stranger and it's not so easy to approve accommodation requests. Many thanks. x
Please may I also just strongly advise that if you are looking for the type of accommodation where it will be acceptable for you come and go in the middle of the night (i.e. after midnight) you read my profile NO further and look elsewhere for your accommodation. This is a small, private dwelling. Please do not come here if you intend to go out late and return much after midnight.
I would like my guests to treat my home as they would their own, and to respect me, my possessions and my place.
The house is relatively small, and the neighbourhood is quiet, and for this reason I suggest that any guests who may wish to stay out late (i.e. beyond midnight) and sleep during the day, look elsewhere for accommodation. My little home isn't run like a large city-centre hotel!!!
No additional overnight guests will be allowed to stay in my home unless it was part of the original arrangement.
Guests are welcome to use my washing machine and detergent, however, there will be a £3 charge per wash to cover costs... Cheaper than a launderette!
And no-smoking inside, please! Thank you very much.
Laura made us feel very welcome from the moment we booked! Her place is really lovely and homely and in a great spot for easy access into town. Despite a good location, the neighbourhood is also quiet which is great for a good night's sleep. Her house is a real reflection of her personality - warm, welcoming and lovely. I would definitely recommend staying here!
Laura is lovely and she's got a great place, that was ideal for our needs - nice place to rest your head, in a quiet neighbourhood, away from the crowds, with easy access to centre. We had a couple of nights at Laura's as a base for a brief weekend away, exploring Manchester and seeing a band - being in Laura's company was probably best part of the weekend.
Main problem was that it was difficult to drag yourself away, because the crack (conversation) was so good - we felt like long-lost friends by the time we left.
We'd be delighted if she would have us back again sometime in the future...
It was a perfect week in the laura's house for our arrival in Manchester. we couldn't imagine a better to start our new life in UK. Laura is a welcoming and helpful person. Her House is beautiful and very clean. the room is really ideal for two person ( the bed and the pillows are very comfty). Laura is willing to give good advices about the town. Now, that we are set up in Manchester, i can't imagine no to invite her to thank her. If you pick her house up , you won't regret it!!!!!

Laura is a fantastic host, who owns a wonderful tiny little house!
The house is very clean, good 2-person bed and a brand new bathroom. And look at the pics...there is a real wooden fire! Makes you feel like at home :-).
Location is perfect. On walking distance to the curry mile and very easy to reach the centre by bus.
Next time when we will visit Manchester, we will definitely return here.
I stayed at Laura's for four nights while I started a new job in the city and was hunting for a permanent place to stay. I felt completely comfortable and welcome from the start and it was great to be able to feel so relaxed during an otherwise stressful time.
Laura's place is charming and she couldn't have done more to make me feel at home. The room was really cosy and the area is nice and quiet. Travel was really easy as well, there are stacks of buses only a short walk away. I'd recommend it to anyone.
I had a great weekend in Laura's lovely home. Laura was very welcoming and a wonderful host, very helpful with lots of information and ideas which made getting round Manchester easy and hassle free. Great house, lovely room and wonderful company. Very happy to recommend Laura's house.
About the Host, Laura
Just a little something to get us started... Things to love... travel, firstly. India is a particularly special destination for me and I returned there for the fifth time in November 2012; Cuba, Japan, and Hawaii are next on my list! My attitude to travelling is definitely pretty spontaneous... I'm not much of a planner and like to just figure things out as I go. My attitude to hosting is 'Minha casa é sua casa'... I want you to feel at home. I also love music and live gigs and summer festivals, camping, and taking photographs.
