A well-loved home; a charming space, full of colour & character. A well-travelled & experienced host who genuinely enjoys sharing her home with people from all walks of life. A comfortable, clean bed, & plenty of tea, toast & jam for breakfast...
Hi! Welcome to my profile! I have a simple and clean double-room to rent to either a single guest or a couple. I would describe my home as comfortable, colourful and just on the right side of cluttered! I live here with my cat, Ariettie (a lovely soul). The house is situated on a pretty, tree-lined and quiet avenue, not far from Manchester city centre. You can walk to the centre of town from here in about 40 minutes or you can take 1 of several local bus routes and jump off in Piccadilly in about 20 minutes. For those wishing to go in the other direction, there are also bus routes to Didsbury village and Withington a short walk away, and no matter which way you're going, you can always stop in at the Curry Mile for a plate of thali and a cup of chai before you go. Delicious! For those of you coming from the airport, I live about 6 miles away and a taxi ride will cost you between £15 - £20 to get to my door; there is also the Number 43 bus which leaves the airport and comes through my area, which you can jump on for a fraction of the cost of a taxi. There's plenty of room here for parking on the street outside the house if you come by car.
If the weather is nice then my colourful yard out the back is a great sun-trap and the perfect place for a cup of tea and toast with marmalade in the morning. Sometimes I even get to hear my neighbours singing in their showers before work! It's also the place where you are more than welcome to sit and have a cigarette or 2, if you are so inclined. If the weather is bad - as it often can be here - then I even have an umbrella you can borrow when you're out there!
I have a basic Virgin package with digital TV, and this includes Wifi, which guests are of course welcome to use. There is a small flat-screen TV in your room, plus several local guide books and a map of the city-centre, to help you find your way. I am also happy to provide clean bed linen and bath towels, so no need to worry about packing these things.
As a host, I always make the effort to make sure people have what they need when they stay in my home. I want people to feel welcome and comfortable. As a local Manchester lass, I have a great knowledge of the city's layout and all the neighbouring towns... from here you can go up into the hills of Derbyshire or The Lake District (both an hour away), you can go and catch a Manchester United football game at Old Trafford, or maybe visit the lights and coast of the classic British holiday resort of Blackpool. Manchester has an eclectic array of music venues, cinemas, restaurants, sporting venues, museums and galleries, and I will always be happy to point my guests towards the things they may enjoy. I want people to leave my home and my city having had a good time, with fond memories, but before then, I look forward to welcoming you...
Please may I just ask any potential guests to ensure that they have some sort of Airbnb profile up and running before making contact. We hosts need to be able to see who wants to come and stay in our homes! Please have a profile with photos and information, and ideally a few references from friends. This helps us to feel more confident about offering you the room, otherwise you are a complete stranger and it's not so easy to approve accommodation requests. Many thanks. x
Please may I also just strongly advise that if you are looking for the type of accommodation where it will be acceptable for you come and go in the middle of the night (i.e. after midnight) you read my profile NO further and look elsewhere for your accommodation. This is a small, private dwelling. Please do not come here if you intend to go out late and return much after midnight.
I would like my guests to treat my home as they would their own, and to respect me, my possessions and my place.
The house is relatively small, and the neighbourhood is quiet, and for this reason I suggest that any guests who may wish to stay out late (i.e. beyond midnight) and sleep during the day, look elsewhere for accommodation. My little home isn't run like a large city-centre hotel!!!
No additional overnight guests will be allowed to stay in my home unless it was part of the original arrangement.
Guests are welcome to use my washing machine and detergent, however, there will be a £3 charge per wash to cover costs... Cheaper than a launderette!
And no-smoking inside, please! Thank you very much.
Perfectly as described, very welcoming. In a convenient location, just a minute from the nearest bus stops with busses coming every ten minutes throughout the day.
Laura was a very good host. I was a little nervous having never used Airbnb before but she made me feel completely welcome. The house is nice and warm, and due to being down a small culdesac on a side-street there is never any traffic noise.
My only small complaint would be that the bed was extremely creaky and pillows firm. If I was sensitive to noise it could have been annoying, although I still had a good nights sleep. I sleep on my side so the pillows were not an issue, but the pillows did make lying down flat uncomfortable. Although I'm sure if I'd asked softer pillows would have been supplied.
Yes Joseph, if you'd have asked for softer pillows I would have been only too happy to have sorted something out for you. It's a shame you didn't mention this while you were actually here with me, while I could have done something about it, and instead, waited until you'd left to write a comment on my profile, especially seeing as I asked how you'd slept on your first morning! It's also a shame for me that you have chosen to focus on this and have neglected to mention some of the more helpful and friendly things I maybe did for you, like make you and your girlfriend banana smoothies for breakfast, like lend you my hair-dryer, like take the time to show interest in your girlfriend's art work... Oh well.
Absolutely wonderful stay with Laura. She is the best Air BnB host ever and I ended my stay wanted to move in with her and her pretty little cat Ariette. Her home is beautiful, comfortable and well located and Laura did everything in her power to make me feel at home. We had some lovely chats (I prefered taking to Laura than going to my conference!) and I'd definitely stay with Laura again and recommend anyone else visiting Laura to do so too.
Laura is amazing host! The hose is lovely and she helped every time we asked something. The house is very cosy and pretty
Really enjoyed my stay. Laura is a brilliant host, the house is lovely, the bed was comfy, the shower was great and the bread was perfectly toasted. Worth noting that the morning bus into Manchester centre and the uni is really regular and only two minutes walk from the front door. Highly recommended!
Where to begin? From the moment I arrived I felt genuinely welcome. No sooner was I through the door than there was an offer of cup of tea and something to eat - very welcome after a long day. The accommodation is cosy and full of character - a true home from home. Laura is a lovely charming host and I look forward to staying again next time I'm visiting Manchester.
Laura was very welcoming, she has such a pretty house and all the details for a relaxed stay were there ie breakfast, towels etc
I was a little anxious at first as it was my first experience of this kind, but Laura was amazing. From the beginning she made me feel welcome. Her home was warm and cosy and I felt very safe. It was exactly as described on the website and I would encourage anyone to stay here.
Just a little something to get us started... Things to love... travel, firstly. India is a particularly special destination for me and I returned there for the fifth time in November 2012; Cuba, Japan, and Hawaii are next on my list! My attitude to travelling is definitely pretty spontaneous... I'm not much of a planner and like to just figure things out as I go. My attitude to hosting is 'Minha casa é sua casa'... I want you to feel at home. I also love music and live gigs and summer festivals, camping, and taking photographs.
