The room has a king size bed, with a comfortable chair and lamp for reading, and a table and chair for computer or other needs.
A lovely older Berkeley Home on a quiet, tree lined street; 3 blocks from the Ashby Bart Station; AC bus close by; one mile from UC Berkeley Campus; walking distance from Elmwood Shopping District with a wide variety of restaurants and coffee and tea shops; book stores, clothing stores, art boutiques, and a movie theatre. 3 blocks from the Berkeley Bowl and Whole Foods.
Quiet restful room to return to after sightseeing or studying.
Great for Cal Football Game weekend
No kitchen use or laundry
Expect to eat in wonderful restaurants and cafes in the area.
No microwave or tv.
Movie theater, boutiques, cafes, book stores within 8 block, lovely walking distance and closer.
What makes my place unique is that it is a quiet, peaceful place to return to after a busy day touring, studying, or attending a social event, or performance.
I have three other rooms listed at the same location on airbnb; feel free to check them out, Cozy Comfortable, Simple Sleeping Space, and Garden View Studio
I offer individual sessions in T'ai Chi Chih and counseling using the Enneagram as a tool for understanding. This can be done in my garden or living room. Price can be negotiated.
Interaction with Guests
Depending on my academic schedule, very little during the Fall and Spring Semesters, more so in the summer time when I am home a lot more
Ashby Bart station is 3 blocks from my house; bus lines are about the same. My house is pretty centrally located, walking distance from downtown Berkeley and UCBerkeley.
Other Things to Note
Parking on the street is 2 hour parking Monday through Friday from 10 am until 7 pm. Unrestricted parking on weekends, holidays and all night from 7 pm until 10 am. I have a longish driveway in which people have parked, also, a limited number of all day parking permits.
There are a number of units in my house so I expect guests to be relatively quiet after 10 pm in consideration of others and me; speaking in lower tones, coming in as quietly as possible, closing doors carefully.
no kitchen use
If possible, I would like to meet the guests the 1st day and go over the general schedules, just so we're on the same page.
No other guests in the house than the ones booking the room; unless we have discussed it ahead of time, and come to agreement
So far, for the most part, things have worked out very well, it's a relaxed and flexible atmosphere.
The room is nice and clean in a little old house. However, its just a bedroom with a table. Please keep in mind that you don't have access to the living room or kitchen. Plus the bathroom is shared between 3 rooms (so up to several people which can be annoying in the morning). You also cannot have a shower after 10pm. I like to have a night shower so this annoys me. I didn't read the description thoroughly so was very disappointed when we arrived.
If you're looking for a place to stay for a couple of nights, it's fine. But longer than that, it could be annoying with no laundry, no TV, and no kitchen.
I was staying in the area to be near my daughter after her surgery, and had to stay longer than planned; so Judith was kind enough to accommodate me for 2 nights when my other airbnb room was unavailable. I never met my hostess, but the room was clean, spacious and comfortable. The neighborhood is convenient and worked well for my purposes. There are three rooms to let that share a very small landing and bathroom. The first night, I was all alone, so it was super quiet. The second night, all 3 rooms were full, and every bathroom visit during the night by my fellow lodgers was a rude awakening. You can hear everything that goes on in the bathroom from my room - everything. I don't mind sharing a bathroom, but don't really want to feel like I'm actually IN the bathroom with someone else. I would suggest installing a light/fan combination (separate from the expensive-to-run heat lamp that exists now). It also didn't help that one of my fellow lodgers liked to use the bathroom without closing the door - come on.
I think next time I would prefer to stay in my previous location - $20 less per night, AND a private bath, AND kitchen privileges. This situation will be fine for some, but now I know it wasn't my cup of tea.
Judith was a wonderful host. She knows her neighborhood and had great local recommendations. I loved being walking distance to both Whole Foods and Starbucks! On the way to Starbucks, i noticed a darling cafe and ended up having coffee there instead.
the accomodations were comfortable, the wireless worked great, and the neighborhood was quiet for great sleeping. She also rents other rooms to other guests, I never saw them, it was like I had the shared bathroom to myself. It was clean and spotless!
I was greeted by Judith who is quite gracious. She showed me my room and reviewed the house rules. The room is exactly as depicted, everything was very clean and the neighborhood is safe. The BART is a quick walk which was a big plus.
There were other people in the house but I rarely heard them nor did we overlap in using the facilities. I appreciated that each room had sturdy locks, I felt my personal space was safe as well. I can recommend. Simple, safe, affordable.
Enjoyed my stay here :) Comfortable bed. Room is as depicted in the pictures. Judith is very prompt with here replies and attentive to my needs which i'm appreciative of. The house is located in a quiet and peaceful and clean neighbourhood about 10 min walk from Ashby Bart . Would certainly recommend this place to anyone looking for a comfy stay in Berkeley :)
This is a really large room, really comfortable for one or two people, there is plenty of space for belongings. The neighborhood is really convenient located, easy access to the Bart in order to head to the city. Highly recommended if you are visiting Berkeley or even San Francisco.

I am a College Professor, teaching at City College, S.F., in the Older Adults Department. I teach T'ai Chi Chih and Mind/Body/Spirit Health. I have a Private Counseling Practice in Berkeley, out of my home, where I counsel people with an emphasis on Holism. I teach a system called the Enneagram which describes 9 different personality types. It is a wonderful tool for deepening ones understanding of oneself. I conduct groups with this orientation.
I love gardening and spend many hours in my luscious garden, meditating, doing T'ai Chi Chih and teaching classes, as well as pulling up the perennial little weeds which want to overwhelm my sunflowers, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, rose, cosmos, etc plants. I am basically, but not strictly, a vegetarian enjoying eating food from my garden, as well as the organic boxes of food delivered by FarmFreshToYou.
I am working on a book and find the garden the perfect place to be writing.
I am a Mother and a Grandmother, spending time with my very large extended family less than before. Everyone is growing up and very involved in their own wonderful lives! I'm grateful for the abundance of family.
I have traveled extensively, Europe; from Turkey to India by land, when that was possible; Africa; Israel; Mexico, almost all of the 50 States. I love different cultures and meeting people and learning about their lives. My three favorite cities in the world are San Francisco, Istanbul, and New Orleans.
I am an avid reader, as well as an amateur musician, picking up the clarinet and sitting at the piano periodically.
I enjoy watching dvds from Netflex, my favorites so far have been West Wing and Treme. I don't watch tv. Dislike the commercials. I listen to NPR, KQED, KALW, KPFA, and KCSM, the 24 hour jazz station. I also enjoy the classical station.
