  • Our stay was just lovely. Perfect location to explore Ortigia; Apollo Temple is just a few meters away, and equally the sea. (And other than expected, finding a parking space close by was not a hassle at all, we had the car close to Apollo temple, just a hundred meters from the apartment; parking within the white marks is free). The apartment itself is spacious and at the same time it felt very cozy. Great taste in furniture and everything. As it is on the rooftop, the view is amazing: over the sea, the city, and on clear days even Mount Etna. There is a terrace to look from and many windows - in the bedroom alone I counted three, one with direct view to Etna.
Flavia and Roberto were genuinely welcoming hosts and really made sure that we felt comfortable and had a good time. It felt like being invited to the place of dear friends.
Would stay there again any time.

  • Staying in this apartment felt just like home. Specially when having hosts like Flavia and Roberto. Flavia is such an elegant lady and Roberto is so nice, he insisted on carrying my bag all the way to the apartment. They were ready to help at any time.
It's very nicely decorated, warm, clean and cozy, they (email hidden) collection and books (if only I could read Italian!).
And it's a perfect place to cook your own meals, the kitchen is fully equipped, the market is a 5-minute walk and there's a grocery store right at the corner.
And when it comes to the terrace, there's only one thing I can say that sums it all: AWESOME!
Being in this apartment and in Ortygia was perfect. I will definitely stay here again. Just perfect!

  • Ortigia was one of our favorite places in Sicily. We very much enjoyed staying in Flavia Gioia's apartment - so charming with beautiful views from the terrace. So many details were attended to that we were quite at home. Loved the eclectic CD collection. And did I mention the view from the terrace! We're in our 60s so the only drawback was the third floor walk-up. If stairs don't bother you, I highly recommend this delightful place.

  • This apartment on Ortygia, the island part of Siracusa, is adorable; Flavia and Roberto are superb hosts. It's roomy, sweetly appointed, with a fabulous view of the harbor from the terrace. We did not use the kitchen, there were croissants, biscuits, marmalade, butter, corn flakes, coffee, tea, cold water bottles in the fridge as if old friends were staying as guests. Getting the key was easy. It was Christmas Day, Roberto still drove to a piazza to personally pick us up and guide us to the apartment! He insisted on carrying our bags upstairs. What a host! Flavia was there waiting for us. They explained everything, the little quirks of an apartment that is in an older building in a delightfully quaint part of the city. The apartment is located on a very quiet street; you hear nothing. It's very close to the pedestrian-only section, one minute away. The apartment was clean, bathroom fine, the shower worked. The bedroom is cozy-small, the bed is fine, we slept like logs. Flavia speaks some English, but Roberto is fluent. We had a bit of a problem figuring how to work the heating; it was rather cold in Siracusa at night in winter. So we called Roberto. No problem, he came personally in about five minutes and showed us how to work it. Whenever there was anything we couldn't figure out, we just called and Roberto was there to help in no time. He is fabulous, a native, knows everyone. He showed us around Ortygia, where to park for free, took us personally to restaurants -- there are several cafés and restaurants nearby -- where Roberto knew every owner -- of course -- and made sure we got royal treatment. When he walks down the street, he and residents greet each other as if he knows everyone in town and they know him. Remarkable! You could think he is the mayor. The living room is very sweet; Roberto and Flavia have lots of CDs which they invited us to use on their stereo. The bathroom is all you need; they had all sorts of shampoos, shower gels and soaps which guests could use. Internet was a bit of a problem. The person who used the apartment before us had apparently broken the WiFi router and, despite several enterprising efforts by Flavia to get a connection, it did not work....it was, after all, the Christmas holiday, so it was not easy to find someone to solve it...but she tried her best. We didn't really mind being without an Internet connection for a few days. I'm sure they will have it fixed by the time the next person arrives. And Roberto and Flavia are so nice, helpful and charming, who could care about not having an Internet connection. We were on vacation.... All in all, this apartment is very good value, especially because of the location, the view, and the charm and the hosts. If we go back to Siracusa -- and we would like...

    Response from Flavia Gioia:

Thanks Ken for your lovely review. Sorry if delay in responding, but I was sick 2 weeks. Roberto and I really hope you come back soon to Syracuse. Now everything works fine. We fixed the internet and wifi now works fine. Even the shower curtain was replaced as it was in a drawer but I forgot to change it. The days of Christmas are always full of engagements with the family ...
Check back soon for us it is a pleasure to host you.
    See you soon

  • What a great apartment! Ortygia is obviously the place to stay if you are going to be in Syracuse, and this apartment is the cherry on top. Quirky decor, roomy, fully equipped (no late night discovery that there is no corkscrew), lovely views. Flavia and her friend were wonderful hosts. (And if you want to eat somewhere really excellent -- Le Vin de l'Assassin.

  • Really great flat in the heart of Ortigia. Fully equipped - even umbrella for the beach. It leaves no wish open ; ) It was a wonderful stay. Thank you so much Flavia and Roberto!

  • Flavia's place is just perfect. Comfortable, full equipped kitchen, beautiful terrace with views, cosy bathroom, charming, nicely decorated ...
Flavia was just great: she offered to collect us at the train station, we could check in and out when we wanted, she explained us everyth, suggested places to go, brought us milk and croissants ....
An excellent place. I really recommend it.

  • busy, fascinating and tiring visit to Palermo.....then we arrived at Flavias apartment and the holiday began. Only 2 days in the lovely apartment with the fabulous terrace and great location, we would have loved to stay longer. Lots of extras to welcome us - provisions and utensils - allowing us to take advantage of the great fresh food markets by creating our own lunches, our own suppers while watching the sun set over the sea. An apartment with personality, fresh coffee and a warm welcome from Flavia. FANTASTIC. thank you. We will pass your details to our friends.

  • Flavia and Roberto's place is just great. Exactly as described and better than the pictures. They had left a welcome pack of breakfast stuff (cornflakes and tea as we were English!) oil, coffee and all sorts. Basically thus is just like staying at someone's house, everything is provided. Excellent views over the harbour and towards Etna, the balcony is also secluded enough for sunbathing and faces towards the setting sun, perfect for a sundowner before heading out for dinner.
Parking which could've been a nightmare in Ortigia was easy thanks to Roberto and Flavia who went out of their way to be helpful. We met Roberto at one of the restaurants he recommended too and he made sure the owner treated us well :) overall I would thoroughly recommend this place and the hosts, both superb. Do be aware that the flat is on the top floor and there's no lift, so it wouldn't be ideal for people who find a lot of stairs difficult.
