The Panabode was the perfect little cabin for a two day "get away from it all" trip. There is a cute little kitchen for coffee, tea, and a light breakfast. Unfortunately we did not get to meet Bette, but she left fruit, yogurt, and chocolate for us. We also used the larger cook house to make full meals. We drove into Waterton Lakes Park and took a boat ride and a hike. Beautiful day! Then came back to sit on the deck with a glass of wine to take in the view. Lovely!
The Panabode is a cute and cozy cabin in a beautiful area. Though we didn't get to meet Bette, she left us a very thoughtful bottle of champagne and chocolate. We had a wonderful weekend.
Canada saved the best 'til last for us in the shape of our cabin at Flint Rock Ranch. We arrived on a dismal rainy day, but Bette had made sure that the cabin was warm and cosy - and had even put Champagne on ice as we were on our honeymoon! By the time we had settled in, the clouds had cleared to reveal the most amazing view across the ranch towards the Rockies. There is a small kitchen where we prepared breakfast, and a well equipped cookhouse where we made our evening meals. Little touches such as some Canadian foods (jam, cheese, balsamic vinegar) and white robes were really appreciated - as well being able to use the hot tub one evening. The cabin is fairly remote (25 mins from the nearest shop/restaurant) but to be honest, we wanted to spend all our time on the deck outside the cabin, listening to the birds and taking in the view. We had to drag ourselves away to the many attractions in the area (guided fly fishing, buffalo jump, Waterton Park). We highly recommend the cabin, and only wish it were nearer so that we could come back again and again.
We spent a total of seven nights at The Panabode near Pincher Creek and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Our accommodations included a nicely decorated two bedroom cabin with a full bathroom and a small kitchen with a fridge, sink and hot plate. The cookhouse was a short walk away and it provided everything we needed for cooking, food storage and clean-up.
Our hosts were absolutely wonderful to us and welcomed us with open arms. We enjoyed using all of the facilities as well as spending time together to socialize.
The best part of our stay was sitting on the decks of the cabin and watching the wildlife and the beautiful views of the ranch and mountains in the distance. The cattle and horses were grazing in the fields, mule deer were constantly crossing through the area, mountain bluebirds were teaching their young to catch insects and we even saw two elk and a sow bear with cubs when we hiked a distance from the main compound.
The purpose of our trip was to hike in Waterton National Park and we thoroughly enjoyed doing so. To our surprise, we equally enjoyed staying in ranch country and driving to the park each day.
I would definitely recommend staying at The Panabode to anyone who is looking for beautiful views and a time of quiet reflection. Our hosts were wonderful and it was a memorable and pleasant experience.
The Panabode was everything that we expected and more - cozy, with all the amenities you would need for a restful vacation. Bette and Phil are the perfect hosts and even stocked the cabin with little essentials for us to use during our stay. Their property is gorgeous, with amazing views of the countryside and the beautiful night sky. It felt just like visiting family, warm, welcoming and lovely surroundings. Thanks for an amazing few days!

About the Host, Bette
Along with my husband and 4 sons, we want to share the beauty of the foothills of Southern Alberta with guests from around the world and from our own back yard.
Flintrock Ranch (named after the small Flintrock creek that runs through the property) is home to 5 horses and 160 cattle at the moment.
We live and work in Calgary but spend our weekends at the ranch.
We are just getting started in the hosting business but have done our fair share of travelling over the years.
We love our beautiful ranch, and welcome guests to enjoy it with us or take in the peace and tranquility on your own.
