We'd love to host you, especially if you are here investigating whether Madison is a good place for you to go to school, live, or work! If you are only looking for a single room while visiting the UW-Madison campus, hospital, or downtown, our house is close to all and is pretty, cozy, bright and clean.
We're a 12-minute walk to the UW-Madison hospital, and a short bike ride, bus ride (7 minutes) or walk (30 minutes) to campus through a pretty neighborhood. We are two short blocks from a major bus route (University Ave.), which can take you to the Kohl Center, the Capitol Square, Monona Terrace (Ironman!), shopping at Hilldale, or at boutiques along Monroe Street, or just about anywhere else you want to go! Walk to Camp Randall in 20 minutes to see a UW-Madison football game along-side a designated bike route, Kendall Avenue. Bike to campus or bike paths that take you to the beautiful city trail.
Built in 1936, we're in quiet College Park, at the foot of historic University Heights. Your room has a cozy extra-long single bed with lots of pillows and a down comforter in the shared bedroom/office. When you're here, I'm not in the office. Our home is very special because it is decorated with art and antiques and maintained with lots of attention to detail. The screened in porch and patio are great for warm summer evening meals. The kitchen has everything within reach. Breakfast when you want to make it is composed of organic ingredients including fruit, bagels, breakfast beverages and French-press coffee or tea. Feel free to use the kitchen for your meals in (or carryout).
If you are looking for an entire house, check out our other listing (Cozy Artist's House)...our three bedrooms, one-and-a-quarter-bath home consists of one king bed, one extra-long twin in the office, and one extra-long twin in the third bedroom (all with down comforters). A full-sized sofa sleeper (with a feather-bed) in the living room can sleep two.
In the house, you'll find a great wi-fi connection, a flat-screen T.V. in the kitchen, iron/ironing board, and hair dryer upstairs. There is a stereo with iPod hook up in the living room (no T.V. there, for peace and quiet)! The Sunday NY Times is delivered to the house, so feel free to enjoy it. We will help you with your itinerary or restaurant recommendations (or just leave you alone!). You may even want to cook while you're here; we're very close to Whole Foods.
We're a busy family of three who love art, music, travel, and locally sourced food.
Footnote: the view from the (website hidden) map from the street is not Kendall Ave. Also, we are mandated to pay sales and lodging tax, with which we comply.
I have had a very charming stay at Samantha, she is really taking care of her guest and even if my stay has been short we have had time to meet and talk.
The bedroom was very confortable and calm.
Very nice place where to stay !
Sam and Bruce were very hospitable and helpful; their home is quiet, clean, warm, and charming. I would definitely recommend them to friends.
Sam and Bruce's lovely home was the perfect place for my one-night stay in Madison for a graduate school interview. Located conveniently near campus, public transportation, and great lunch and dinner spots (thanks for the recommends, Sam!), I really couldn't have had a more pleasant stay. Sam is the perfect hostess and all of my needs were 110% taken care of. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend their home to anyone who needs a place to stay in Madison!
Loved it here! Sam and Bruce's house is gorgeous, clean, and located in a beautiful neighborhood within easy walking distance of the hospital and driving distance of everything. Sam and Bruce were friendly, welcoming, and very easygoing about my late arrival due to travel snafus. The room is clean and cozy, there was even tea and dark chocolate! Would definitely stay here again. :)
Great stay, such a nice family and cozy home. Perfect for proximity to UW Hospital, also close to main campus. Highly recommend!
Samantha and Bruce (and Lily, their daughter) are the most wonderful hostess! They are such warm and interesting people and also very kind !. During my staying they offered me to join them for dinners (8$ per dinner) both great cookers and for me, as most of the time I came back late from the university, it was a great option. The meals were so healthy and tasty and we had great and interesting conversions ! A part of being such wonderful people, they have a beautiful, lovely, and very clean home in which I felt great staying in ! I really felt as part of the family !
I couldn't ask for a better place to stay and I"m so glad I met them ! I hope to see them again if not in Madison, maybe in Europe ? Israel ? ;)
Thank you Samantha and Bruce! They have a lovely house, great location, and couldn't have been more comfortable. Was peaceful and restful, couldn't have asked for anything better. Was great meeting you, and thanks so much!
I had a very nice stay at Sam's house. The guest room / office is nicely appointed, with everything I would need: twin bed, small sofa, desk area. There is a privacy screen that clearly separates the office from guest room space.
Sam welcomed me with a tour of the house, and offers dinner at an additional charge. I was tired, so did not take advantage of the offered hospitality.
The neighborhood feels very safe and is close to campus. Parking is limited to 2 hours during the day.
I was in town for a job interview and really only needed a place to sleep for the night. However, Samantha and Bruce were excellent hosts, very accommodating and super nice. The place was clean and quiet. I would definitely return.
I was in town for an interview at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and had a wonderful stay with Sam and Bruce! The house was within walking distance to the school and the room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast consisted of hard-boiled eggs, homemade granola, fruits, orange juice, milk, soymilk, among many other options! I would definitely recommend staying here!
