Cottage Casa Tucán - fully equipped
Natural Estate, 100.000 m² with a small tropical river for bathing and relaxing
Offers ample space for families with children and a first hand experience of the abundant tropical nature of Costa Rica.

The space

Finca Pura Vida is situated in the middle of lush mountains and rainforest in the idyllic valley of the Armado River. The nearest village, La Suiza, is approximately 1.5 km away – far enough to enjoy the peace and quiet of unspoilt nature but close enough to meet your daily requirements even without having to use the car. The ten hectare ground of Finca Pura Vida offers ample space to swim in the river, to take walks, to sunbathe or to simply relax.

Your holiday home is built in a typically Costa-Rican style. There are two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, a bathroom and a spacious roofed patio. Both bedrooms are furnished with a queen-size bed and on open wardrobe. The bathroom offers a shower, a sink and a toilet. The kitchen is well equipped with china, glasses and cutlery, sauce pans and frying pans as well as a big fridge/freezer. Bed linen, towels and tea towels are there for you to use. Should you have further requirements, your hosts Flora and Joaquin will be very happy to help you.

Due to the pleasant temperatures, you will most likely spend most of your time outside. Hence, you will enjoy the 50m² roofed patio where you can eat, drink, relax or party. There are cooking facilities with a barbecue and a gas-cooker with two rings, a big table with benches and chairs as well as a hammock.

At Finca Pura Vida there are no direct neighbours. If you feel like socialising, take a stroll to La Suiza and you will find that the Ticos, as the Costa Rican people call themselves, are very open-minded, friendly and laid-back people who will readily have a chat with you even if your Spanish is less than perfect.

Feel free to use al facilities in the house and go everywhere at the Finca. Make yourself at home.

If you choose to stay here, you will not be disappointed. The location is perfect. Just far enough away from town to where you don't hear the noise of cars and trucks, yet close enough to make a quick trip to restock your supply of limes and Imperial (beer). The weather was perfect and I was there during the rainy season. Yeah it rained nearly everyday, but only for an hour or two. And afterwards the birds would come out from their shelter and it would be like a new morning, with fresh air and full of birdsong. I never felt as if I needed AC or a heater. Speaking of birds. If you are a birder like me, you will not be disappointed. On the property and the trails I was able to see over seventy species of birds. Including several species of parrots/parakeets, hummingbirds, and tanagers. And of course the iconic toucan. And I should mention that the yard is nicely landscaped with various flowers that attract the most amazing butterflies. Let me touch on things that might be important to you. Like a good shower. No problem here, plenty of water pressure and hot water (a little tip, showers in Costa Rica work better if you don't turn on the water full blast). The house is well stocked with everything you need to make your own meals. I stayed for a month and not once did I dine out. There is wi-fi and while the bandwidth is not what it is in cities, it was still possible for me to listen to NPR every morning while enjoying fresh fruits and the best coffee in the world. I was able to make travel arrangements via web and stream my favorite podcasts. The beds are comfortable, sheets and towels are clean. There is a washing machine and plenty of clothes line. The gas stove works perfect. The water is pure and delicious right out of the faucet. The hammocks on the porch are addicting. The area has all kinds of things to do like birding, hiking, rafting, canyoneering, and on and on. Last but not least, I have to mention Joaquin. He is the caretaker. He came by every morning to work on the property. He is such a pleasant friendly person who will take great care of you. While I was there, I was studying Spanish at a nearby immersion school and Joaquin and I had conversations almost every day. He was more than willing to help me learn the language. He also did the trail hike with me and he pointed out all the trees and history of the area, in Spanish of course, which was of great interest and help to me. You will definitely enjoy getting to know him and his wife Flora. I could go on and on about my stay at Finca Pura Vida, but I think you get the picture. If you are traveling to the area and you need a home...

If you're looking for a green getaway, you've found it. I stumbled across Karl's listing when my husband and I were looking to escape the large and noisy city that we live in ... we could not have found a better place. On top of a mountain and next to a creek, surrounded by coffee, banana trees, and the jungle, Karl's finca is not only the perfect place to enjoy some piece and quiet - lying in a hammock watching humming birds come by - but also, to explore the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Nearby are a few attractions, like the ruins of Guayabo, two volcanoes, and the national park boasting to be the wettest place in all of Costa Rica (and that's saying a lot). A paradise for bird watchers and adrenaline junkies (nearby whitewater rafting), you can avoid the masses drawn to the beaches of Costa Rica and instead enjoy a quieter, more distinctly local slice of the country. Make sure you go to Bar Poncho in town, a fun place where you'll be greeted by the very friendly, very fast talking owner (you better brush up on your Spanish). At Karl's finca, all your needs will be taken care of by Joaquin, who came almost every day to ensure we were happy all around. We stayed for 10 days - I had my first ever Christmas barbecue - and returned energized and refreshed to the city. One piece of advice, a 4x4 comes in handy, particularly in rainy season.

Finca Pura Vida is everything we were looking for! The house is clean, large and well cared for. We enjoyed the terrace and the BBQ everyday! Karl is an amazing host and made sure our stay would be perfect : he kindly answered all of our questions, was able to accommodate us when our travel plans changed and was very generous to us. Joaquin and Flora made us feel welcomed as soon as we set foot in La Suiza and were so kind to us. We will forever remember our stay in Finca Pura Vida!

Seit zwanzig Jahren besuche ich Costa Rica, um auf meiner Finca Urlaub zu machen und Freunde zu besuchen. Dieses Land ist für mich eine zweite Heimat geworden.
