Cosy bright one bed flat in Oval

Apartment - Entire home/apt · Clapham Rd, London, SW9 0JQ, United Kingdom

My flat is a small but bright and comfortable place. It's clean and in good working order and does everything you need for a short or medium stay in London on your own or with your partner whether to see the sights or as a base for work. Come stay!

The Space

Cosy and well located one bedroom flat with everything you need for a short or longer stay in London.
The best thing about the flat is its location. 2 minute walk to Oval tube station which means you're about 15 minutes away from Soho, the Tower of London, the City (financial centre) and only 10 minutes from Victoria Station (which serves Gatwick airport) and Waterloo Station.
Great spot to explore London from.
The area has some nice bars, restaurants and all the shops you could need (a 24 hour corner shop with nearly everything you're likely to need is two doors down from the flat - very convenient).
The Flat is a comfortable size for two people and is freshly decorated. You'll have fresh clean towels when you arrive. It has a TV and DVD player if you fancy a quiet night in but is best used as a base to go and explore London by day and night. It is also Wifi enabled.
If I had be be critical, the only down side is the entrance area which you share with a small lawyers office and is a bit on the dark and dingy side. It's totally safe but it gets a lot of people coming and going during the day so isn't as fresh as I would like but that's just to get in. Once you're in, it's a lovely bright little place and I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here.
If you have any questions about restaurants, bars in the area, either I or my friends who will be helping me manage the place will be delighted to help you out. If you stay I'll also share a very well kept secret (the phone number of the best little Indian restaurant in London - 10 minute walk away or they'll even deliver it to your door - it's a telephone number worth its weight in gold :)).
Looking forward to welcoming you to London.

Guest Access

The flat is all yours. You have to come through the slightly dingy common hallway but, once you're past the front door of the flat itself, it's your pad...nobody else get's in unless you want them to :)

Interaction with Guests

I am actually often overseas so the likelihood is that you'll be interacting with my friends Valentina and Andrew. They will be there when you arrive to show you around an answer any questions. Then they'll get out of your hair and leave you to enjoy London however you want to. Nobody will be around during your stay unless you want them to be (we are always available should there be a problem or if you have any questions).

The Neighborhood

The neighbourhood is my neighbourhood. I'm probably a bit biased but I really like it. It's a real cross section of London. There are film stars and members of parliament who live there but there is also a fair amount of social housing.
There are cool little pubs, some nice cafes and everything you need very close by to the flat but it's not one of the nerve centres of London. People won't often go out of their way to go to the area unless they live/work there or are visiting someone who does. So not so many tourists. It's 'real' London for me. Beautiful in parts, ugly in parts. If you want 'picture postcard' London, better to stay in Notting Hill or Chelsea or Westminster or Primrose Hill (the more swanky parts of town :)).

Getting around

The tube is about 100m away which for London, is fantastic. It means that in a very short walk, you have access to the best way to get around London. There are also lots of bus routes but, to be honest, I rarely used them. The Tube gets you everywhere you want to go much faster (no traffic underground!).

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Alex's Flat is very well situated with the Oval station so close and buses passing the door. The flat was clean and tidy even though it may be a little tired in the view of many. Valentina met us as we arrived and carefully explained all we needed to know.
We would gladly return there at any time and recommend it as a very good base for London.

  • Alex was a great host, very prompt and helpful. I had no problems with the flat and really enjoyed my stay. The place is well equipped, conveniently located, and worked perfectly for me.

  • The apartment is like advertised. Perfect location to explore London, clean and tidy and the communication with the host was good.

For the light sleeper; you're fairly close to a tube station/line with the obvious noise from that, but that's what you get in London at a location like this.

The entrance might be a bit weird in the beginning, but Alex has mentioned it very clearly at Air bnb so this shouldn't be a surprise.

The only minor downside I could think of is the mattress, it's on the soft side so not ideal but I'm being picky here.

  • I have not met Alex in person but everything was greatly arranged via mail. a big thanks has to go to Valentina who helped me with check in/out

    very recommended to stay here

  • I stayed for a week on business and enjoyed the easy 15 minute walk to my office. The corridor wasn't really an issue for me and I found the apartment had everything I needed for my visit. Thank you!

  • Alex's flat was great. The location is very convenient to the Northern Line (short walk to Oval station) and not too far from the Victoria Line (Stockwell station). The walk from Oval is well-lit and safety was not a question. There are many small shops on the way and several good restaurants, plus a lovely park across the street from the Oval and a farmer's market in the nearby churchyard every Saturday. It's also not a bad walk to the Thames, around the Oval, toward Vauxhall station. The flat is perfect for one person or a couple. It's situated in the back of a building that houses a law office. The public hallway is a bit shabby, but once inside Alex's flat, it is clean and quiet and a terrific hideaway from the hubbub of London. All the basic amenities are included (dishwasher, washer, tv, fast wifi). Definitely recommended.

  • I'm a solo traveler and I stayed at Alex's flat at the end of November. I arrived early in the day and Alex's friend Valentina met me at the flat even earlier than the agreed upon time. The Flat was perfect for my stay and it was exactly as presented in the pictures and commentary and had everything I could want to make holiday great. Very close to the Oval metro station and the bus stops out the front door. When I had thought I lost the keys coming back one night Alex was very understanding and got me in contact with his friend Andrew who was also sympathetic to my situation set up a place to meet him to get a spare set of keys. They tried so hard to make me feel better. Well I found the keys before we met but they bent over backwards to accommodate me. This was my second stay with airbnb and it couldn't have gone smoother thanks to all involved. Everyone was just a phone call or text away. I will not hesitate to stay there again on my next visit to London nor would I hesitate to give Alex, Valentina, Andrew and Alex's flat a must stay recommendation.
Thanks for making my London stay great Alex.

  • Clean, cozy, and comfortable flat in good location. Fantastic communication from Alex and easy meetup upon arrival. Definitely recommend and would stay there again.

    November 2013
  • Convenient and Acceptable flat

    November 2013
  • Good locality, close to the tube. The appartment is very well equipped with appliances. But the house itself was so-so. The neighbours are loud and there was a strange water-dripping sound in the bedroom at night. But nothing too bad.

My name's Alex. Half of me is Hungarian, the other half from Yorkshire but I was born and raised in Belgium. What that makes me is anybody's guess. I am married to a Belgian who treats me far too well and have three adorable children; Maya (2 years old), Misha (1 year old) and Zoltan (10 days old). Although I used to be a Londoner, I am now based mainly out of Brussels. The things I miss most about London...good Indian food (the best in town just five minutes from my flat in Oval), bacon sandwiches and my UK friends (not necessarily in that order). Family are in Brussels so when I was in London, they were what I missed most about Belgium. That's me in a very small nutshell. Alex
