SE Portland's Best Neighborhood

Apartment - Entire home/apt · SE 31st Ave, Portland, OR 97202, United States

The Space

I have a 1 year old cat who needs to be cared for while I am out of town.

For this listing May - mid-June 2014, I strongly prefer long-term stays. The longer your stay, the nicer your discount.

I live in the heart of SE Portland's restaurant and food cart scene, near Division/Clinton/30th.

My home is a great 1 bdrm apartment on the ground floor. It is part of a large, impressive house, divided into 3 apartments. Awesome neighbors, no hassle, no noise. The place is comfortable, well set up for shared meals, socializing and work. Full kitchen. Garden patio, seats 2, great for morning coffee. The living room and kitchen are one large room, the bedroom faces the back of the house with a nice, big window, and the bathroom is small but sufficient. My boyfriend calls it the best shower he has ever had in his life. There's a regular size tub.

Internet: wireless

TV: I have no TV; everything I watch is on the intertubes. There is a pair of computer speakers in the apartment for your use.

Cable: nope

Parking: ample, free street parking. It's a quite neighborhood in between bustling streets of signature independent businesses (Clinton/Division) and a busy thoroughfare (Powell Blvd).

Public transportation: close to the 4 and 9, both frequent service buses that run late. ((website hidden))

Laundry: shared laundry in the basement. Key entrance. $1 in quarters for the dryer.

  • Melissa was such a good host, my first air b&b experience was great! Her place is close to everything and near so many restaurants and cool shops. She left really good recommendations of places to go in the area which was really helpful. And her cat Pee Wee was such a good hostess as well, we had a ton of fun with her. I will definitely try to book with her again for my next trip to Portland!

  • Melissa is very considerate in offering her home to us, she even let us use her camping gear for a visit into the mountains. The apartment was very tidy and we felt most welcome and comfortable during our stay. The rate is very reasonable and it was lovely to stay in such a beautiful residential area within walking distance to restaurants and shops. I would highly recommend staying here if you are a cat lover and are looking for a place that feels like home.

  • Melissa was a great hostess even though we never met. She made it very easy to find her place. Her place was in a very quiet neighborhood but convenient to every place we wanted to go. the bed was wonderful and the place was very clean. We had access to everything we needed. Pee wee the kitten was a pleasure to see. we loved him and he was very well behaved. She loved attention and we were very happy to give it. We had a wonderful time at Melissa's. I would highly recommend this place for anyone visiting Portland area. I will look forward to staying at Melissa's next time I come to Portland. I can not say enough positive things about our experience. This was my friends first time visiting the Portland area and she was highly impressed with Melissa's place and they way we were treated. I had a hard time convincing her that it was time to leave. She stated she felt very comfortable and really well treated. She would also like to return. Many many thanks to Melissa and the Portland area for making out trip pleasant and memorable. We will return.

  • This place is homy and very comfortable. She had local beer in the fridge with a big sign saying "DRINK ME". The bed is comfortable and everything is quite clean. Also, the shower had amazing pressure and ultra-hot water.

Parking was extremely convenient and the location is nice because it's so easy to get to any part of Portland and quickly. We had no problem driving to downtown Portland and never spent more than 15 minutes going to any one place.

One last thing - her cafe recommendation could not have been better. Little T Bakery is quite close to her place and has amazing everything. Coffee? Delicious. Pastries? Scrumptious. Bread? Out of this world.

  • Melissa was great in communicating and being flexible with us as our dates changed. The apartment was comfortably laid out, it was warm, and the location was perfect for us. It is hard for us to recommend however. Probably because Melissa is currently an "absent landlord" the place was not as clean as perhaps even she would have expected it to be. In addition, on a good night you can readily hear the neighbors upstairs walking around into the night. On Thanksgiving night, when we had returned late from our own family gathering, their very loud party continued into the wee morning hours with loud stomping and boisterous cheers and it was difficult to sleep through. This was also a bit higher priced than other places we've stayed in the same vicinity.

  • Really enjoyed Melissa's apartment -- my boyfriend and I both remarked on how homey and welcoming the place felt. The location was ideal for us to explore the fantastic restaurants throughout Portland, including Melissa's recommendations. Melissa was an excellent hostess, easy to work with and very willing to accommodate our schedule. I would certainly recommend Melissa, and would stay in her apartment again. Thank you!!

  • The house is very comfortable with natural light and a nice living area. It's right off a couple major bus lines that make it super simple to get in and out of downtown Portland. Also the shower is pretty awesome!

  • Melissas place in Portland is situated nicely for public transport travels into town and quite comfortable. Note the absence of a TV, though, I wasn't aware of that and actually would have liked one. And if you're a basket baller, you probably get bruised, as the ceiling is so low that I at 5'8'' could touch it with the palm of my hand. And it's so thin that you hear the neighbors' every cough. That said, I did enjoy Melissa's spot-on restaurant tips and the easy dealings with her.

  • My girl and I had the distinct honor of being Melissa's very first airbnb guests, and it seemed to us like Melissa had been hosting for ages. Her apartment is exceptionally charming, and her decorative taste drew our compliments on several occasions. The place is private, and is really close to lots of cool stuff, especially the Swedish breakfast spot we walked to on Melissa's recommendation (Broder). Amazing! Besides the super cozy accommodations, Melissa could not have been better at communicating, and made the check-in process an absolute breeze. Highly recommended.
