Cozy 8 X 15 North Oakland cottage. Just several steps away in the main house are your private full bathroom with sink, toilet, shower, fresh towels, and a lovely, large shared eat-in kitchen. There is complimentary tea and coffee for you in the kitchen. The cottage has a mounted flat screen tv, a very comfortable queen sized bed, internet and cable (December 2013 - installed a new router in the cottage, guests report the wireless connectivity is more than adequate), plenty of books and New Yorker magazines if you feel like reading, a comfy leather chair, and a full sized dresser for your clothes. Enjoy the sunny, plant filled backyard deck just outside your front door. There is a private entrance alongside the main house that leads back to the cottage.
Parking is easy on our tree-lined residential street, and we're within walking distance of 3 BART stations (MacArthur, Ashby, and Rockridge), multiple bus lines (18, 12, 1R, and 1) into Berkeley, downtown Oakland, San Francisco, etc. It's easy to get anywhere, whether you have a car or not. If you like community gardens, the lovely one acre Dover Street Park is just around the corner. You can also walk the few blocks to Temescal shopping, excellent restaurants and cafes, art spaces, public library, post office, etc.
We are working most days, very easy to get along with, enjoy meeting new people but also happy to respect our guest's privacy.
My stay was delightful,The cottage was comfortable and clean. Barbara was very helpful in guiding me in my search for a place to live.
The space is a backyard cottage with a comfortable bed and a couple bookshelves of wonderful fiction. The kitchen and bathroom are easily accessible across the patio, and both clean. Chris and Barbara are very gracious and kind.
Chris and Barbara offer a cute little cottage just behind their main house. It felt safe and private, but at the same time Chris and Barbara were warm and welcoming hosts. It was great to have a private bathroom, (which was very clean) and access to their spacious and well stocked kitchen. Very nice people that I would highly recommend you stay with.
My parents were visiting, and our apartment is just too small for overnight guests. Chris and Barbara's cute little cottage is only about a block away from our home, and my parents loved staying with them.
Location, location, location. Chris and Barbara's place was perfectly situated a few house down from my grandson and was just right for us. Cozy room adjoining a very pleasant deck. Chris and Barbara make you feel at home, and are very interesting people if you get a chance to talk with them -- very involved in the neighborhood. The collection of books in the room makes you want to hang there for months. For $50/night, I can't imagine a better value.
This place is $50 per night, and for that price it is a great place to stay. Do realize though that you must leave your 'room' and enter their home through the shared kitchen to get to your bathroom. Also, I'm an animal person so not a huge deal, but the bathroom smells like cat litter has been there in the past. Super gracious, friendly hosts though! Thank you!
Chris, Barbara, and their daughter were great hosts. The separate room was perfect for us as we were in and out late and didn't have to worry about disturbing them. It was cute and cozy, as was their shared kitchen. We didn't see much of the Vernons as we were very busy during our stay, but they were quite hospitable, and their pets were very sweet.
Chris and Barbara are very welcoming hosts whom are easy to talk to. I enjoyed my stay.
It was great to stay at Chris and Barbara's cottage. Very close to great food and easy to access transportation into the city. I'll definitely keep them in mind when coming back to the bay!
I loved staying with Chris and Barbara! The cottage was clean & well decorated. They were both friendly and easygoing. I definitely recommend this place if you are visiting the Bay Area. No stress...no issues.
