House - Private room · Aileen St, Oakland, CA 94609, United States

The Space

Cozy 8 X 15 North Oakland cottage. Just several steps away in the main house are your private full bathroom with sink, toilet, shower, fresh towels, and a lovely, large shared eat-in kitchen. There is complimentary tea and coffee for you in the kitchen. The cottage has a mounted flat screen tv, a very comfortable queen sized bed, internet and cable (December 2013 - installed a new router in the cottage, guests report the wireless connectivity is more than adequate), plenty of books and New Yorker magazines if you feel like reading, a comfy leather chair, and a full sized dresser for your clothes. Enjoy the sunny, plant filled backyard deck just outside your front door. There is a private entrance alongside the main house that leads back to the cottage.

If you like community gardens, the lovely one acre Dover Street Park is just around the corner. You can also walk the few blocks to Temescal shopping, excellent restaurants and cafes, art spaces, public library, post office, etc.

Guest Access

Guests have access to their cottage, their own private full bathroom in the main house, a shared kitchen and laundry room.

Interaction with Guests

Whatever seems natural. Sometimes quite a lot, other times not nearly as much. This is often dictated by how much our guests are even here at the house. They generally spend a great deal of time enjoying the Bay Area.

We are working most days, very easy to get along with, enjoy meeting new people, but also happy to respect our guest's privacy.

The Neighborhood

Easy access to everything in the Bay Area, great neighbors, excellent restaurants, coffee houses nearby. Easy to walk, bicycle and enjoy our usually great weather.

Getting around

Parking is easy on our tree-lined residential street, and we're within walking distance of 3 BART stations (MacArthur, Ashby, and Rockridge), multiple bus lines (18, 12, 1R, and 1) into Berkeley, downtown Oakland, San Francisco, etc. The transbay bus line (F) takes 20 minutes to arrive in San Francisco from the stop 3 blocks from our house. This line runs every 30 minutes from about 5 am to 12 pm. It's easy to get anywhere, whether you have a car or not.

Overall Guest Satisfaction

Check In
  • Chris and Barbara are exceptionally kind people. I suffered a bit of misfortune while in Oakland, and they were both so wonderful in their concern and help.

As far as the lodgings are concerned, you would be hard-pressed to find a more appealingly priced, well-located, and comfortable room. The private access ensures that you can come and go as you please, without concern for waking up others or being woken up yourself. The bathroom is immaculate, stocked with a generous array of towels. Also, you're given access to the kitchen, which is well-equipped and communally accessible.

If you're trying to make a decision on where to stay, you've found the right place.

  • We had an absolutely wonderful stay at Chris and Barbara's cottage. It is a lovely space that has everything you need, and goes out to a beautiful patio with beautiful plants and a lemon tree! The bed was very comfortable and it is nice to have your own separate entrance where you can come and go as you please. The street the house is on is very quaint as well and feels very safe.

The location is amazing as well. Only a 5 minute drive to whole foods, and right by the bay bridge that takes you into San Francisco.

Barbara and Chris were extremely nice and accommodating. You can just tell they are really good people. It was an absolute pleasure to stay in their cottage and we'd highly recommend it to anyone!

  • Chris and Barbara were very kind and considerate. They aim to keep a private place for their guests and that was our experience exactly. They were informative and chatty. We had everything the listing promised. Though the bathroom is separate from the cottage, I was not bothered- it was just a little chilly scampering inside in the middle of the night!

The cottage is equip with direct tv and wifi. The bed is comfortable and room enough for two. A space heater is also provided which was nice on the chillier nights.

Overall, we would absolutely stay with them again!

  • Chris and Barbara offer a cute little cottage just behind their main house. It felt safe and private, but at the same time Chris and Barbara were warm and welcoming hosts. It was great to have a private bathroom, (which was very clean) and access to their spacious and well stocked kitchen. Very nice people that I would highly recommend you stay with.
