The Space

Farm Stay and Bed & Breakfast at Stone & Thistle Farm in the Catskills. Guests enjoy the first-floor suite in the 1863 Greek Revival farmhouse. The suite includes a guest bedroom with a double bed, private bath and library with a private entrance. Additional sleeping facilities can be arranged in the library suite to accommodate families. After enjoying a bountiful farm breakfast, guests may opt, for a fee, to participate in a guided tour of the farm and lend a hand with farm chores (Tours & Chores 1 1/2 to 2 hours). Chores, depending on the season, may include collecting eggs, bottle feeding kid goats, feeding and watering chickens, rabbits and pigs, moving the sheep or dairy goats with the border collies and planting, weeding or harvesting in the kitchen gardens. We need 24 hours notice if you would like to participate in this program.

Dine at our on-farm restaurant Fable = farm + table on Saturday evenings and Sunday for farm tour/brunch from May to October. Experience on farm workshops such as Farmer for a Day or Rabbit to Roaster - butchering, cooking and eating adventures.

Enjoy the countryside and visit other farms, farmers markets, book and antique shops. Hike or ski the mountains. Swim in nearby lakes or explore the many state and local parks. Shop in the farm's store for fresh dairy, produce, and meat or dine in the farm's restaurant Fable from May to October. Reservations are required.

Guest Access

Wander the farm and talk to the animals. Splash in the stream, swing on the hammock, bike the country roads. Swimming, fishing, hiking and picnicing at Hartwick College's Pine Lake environmental center - 5 minute car ride from farm.

Interaction with Guests

We are available to our guests to answer questions, make recommendations for off farm activities and help make the farm stay safe and fun.

The Neighborhood

Quiet country road with three working farms. Nestled in a valley surrounded by mountain pastures. The farm is located approximately a 20 minute drive to the towns of Delhi and Oneonta, and about a 35 minute drive to Cooperstown.

Getting Around

Guests need wheels (bike or car) or a horse to get around.

Other Things to Note

Unplug. Very limited cell phone reception. No television reception. Two-night stay required on holiday weekends. Guests are invited to dine in the on farm restaurant Fable=farm+table on Saturday nights and/or participate in the Sunday farm tour and brunch. Reservations required. (May through October) Farm programs include Tours & Chores, Farmer for a Day. Advance notice needed for these programs. Picnic basket lunch or dinners served upon request.

We've gotten great press - most recently from Thrillist "10 Insanely Awesome Farm Activities You can Drive To" ; Bon Appetit's Food Traveler as Top 25 Foods Farms & Flavors Tourism Destination ; NOFA's summer newsletter; and a wonderful blog post from NewYorkCityFamily.

Google maps and other GPS often bring you to us in obscure and hard to drive routes, especially after dark. Please ask us to send you driving instructions.

House Rules

You are guests on a working farm with cattle, pigs, lambs, goats, ducks, geese, chickens, guinea hens, rabbits, border collies and livestock guardian dogs AND all the sights, sounds and aromas that go with a working farm.

No pets allowed on the farm. We love dogs (we have 10) but because the livestock guardian dogs work hard day and night to protect our livestock, your pet would be considered a threat to them and is not safe on our farm.
