SUMMER 2015 Update
There is a construction project on the building that just started so if you are out during the day you won't be affected. They start working around 8am or so, folks who like to sleep in won't be pleased.
I live and work from home but from the Reviews, you can see it feels like your own NYC Apartment. The bathroom, kitchen and bedroom are exclusively yours to use during your stay. Its important for me to know a bit about you.
Although I live and work from home but you may actually never see me.
2 Queen Size Convertible Futons!. 5 to 7 minutes from the subway.
Before Airbnb, we have welcomed artists, performers, missionaries etc. See our references from others.
Air conditioned 1500 square feet apartment includes furnished one bedroom/living space, private fully equipped kitchen, private bathroom, 1 spacious closet, microwave, television, wireless, refrigerator and nearby laundry access, subway and restaurants (they deliver!). Dishes and toiletries available.Child-friendly. I love pets but I am allergic so no pets.
There is latex in the futons and the pillows have plastic covers, so if you are averse to plastic or have an allergy to latex the space is not best for you.
The building has a great history of notable Harlem Residents. There is usually great heat, hot water and a working elevator. And this is New York, so there may even be a movie crew around the building some days. It's a real New York experience.
Did I say its *like your own apartment? It is. The Reviews confirm.
Different people have different needs and styles. The apartment is made clean and ready for you. On the rare occasion, guests have additional needs they are able to self clean, a pantry full of cleaning products are supplied. It is my apartment, I do live there and I work there. Most folks rarely see me because of my schedule and theirs.
Guests have made the kitchen their own. There are condiments and things left over from previous stays - as well as a wok, a microwave, a coffee pot, filtered water, a dishwasher ( only used to drain clean dishes) and lots of menus. :-)

Sonya is a very kind person and a great host, sha has been very helpful duting our stay in New York. The flat is quite big and very practical!
We had a great stay here, Sonya was a warm, welcoming host and after a long journey it felt like we were arriving at a homely place. Transport to central Manhattan is good with a couple of subway lines stopping nearby. The apartment is in an interesting historic block with a porter, near the river and a short walk away from superb views of the Hudson. It is a surprisingly quiet street given how close you are to Broadway. Not many places to eat out nearby but we took out pizza. The futons were much more comfortable than we thought they might be from the picture and with kids sharing all six of us slept well. It's a simple apartment not a palace but it is very nicely decorated and suited us perfectly. I would recommend this place and Sonya to anyone who wants a bolthole in upper Harlem as a base for exploring the city. We hope to return, it will be our first choice when we do.
Sonya's place is a terrific place to stay! The room is really big, for anywhere - not just New York - and gets lots of light. It's an easy walk to many different trains. Comfy futons, tons of clean sheets and towels.
Sonya's a responsive and friendly host. She was flexible on check-in and check-out, and was as available as we needed her to be. I would absolutely stay here again.
There's not much sit-down food nearby, but there are plenty of take out options, and it's really easy to get to good food/drink on MTA.
Very nice apartment with a beautiful open space. Our kids and we slept very well in this place. Sonya was very friendly and helpful and helped us call a taxi on our departure when the rain poured down.
Only one remark: The kitchen was not very comfortable for small kids. the chairs were very low and the table too high, so even the 4 yr old ate standing on the chair to reach the table. also: we thought it was strange that our small one (18 months) counted as a additional guest, eventhough kids below 2 normally never count (on flights, in hotels etc)...
All in all, it was still a good experience!
Aww .. sorry Daphna. Wish I had known that the kids weren't comfortable. My mom ( who lives next door) some chairs and tables for children. This is good to know for the future. Other families had not mentioned but thank you for sharing it. We didn't really talk much about the age of the little one...but that is a good point that could have been discussed. All in all, I was glad you all felt welcomed and had a great time.
