Halfway between the Bahia Palace and Jemaa El Fna square (4 minutes walking), near Palais Moulay Driss square (car access at 75 meters), our Riad welcomes all hedonism enthusiasts.
Entirely renovated, our Riad kept the dimensions and the most beautiful elements of the house which had been built several centuries ago on the premises. However, the house was the subject of an architectural revision which is resolutely contemporary.
The riad's spirit is to transcribe in the modernity all which makes the charm of the old Arabian-Andalusian palaces (patio, terraces, pond and fountain, menzeh and craft materials) while bringing volumes and lighting effects which gives a particular soul to the house. The decoration is voluntarily plain and gets away from all ideas of pastiche.
The house is composed of a large lounge and dining room, a patio around which a Moorish type lounge, an outdoor lounge and a splash pool are based on.
Upstairs, in the two wings of the house, 3 double rooms and a Junior Suite. Each one with private bathroom and air-conditioner.
And two solarium terraces overlooking the Koutoubia.
What a haven from the madness of the Medina. Elsa's Riad Wo is a masterful balance of traditional Marrakesh courtyard living, updated with contemporary architecture and elegant handcrafted furniture and fabrics. The result is a Zen-like respite from the over-the-top sensory overload elsewhere in Marrakesh.
My wife, 3-year-old daughter and I stayed at Riad Wo for seven nights and it quickly became home. Elsa was away, but her staff, led by the wonderful Hayet, were warm and kind and made us feel like family. They are loving with children, and took genuine delight in sharing the courtyard and deliciously cool plunge pool with her. The dinners of tagines, followed by home-baked deserts, were all rustled up effortlessly in the tiny kitchen and were all better than we had at highly recommended restaurants. Breakfast is small and fresh and tasty and the complimentary mint tea and homemade biscuits throughout the day is light and refreshing.
Listen to the call to prayer from the terrace. Lie there in the evenings and listen to the drum beats coming from Jemaa El Fna. Smoke and lights from this medieval square give the night sky a surreal glow. The riad is within easy walking distance of the square. You'll quickly find your way around. Be sure to visit one of the recommended hammams. Hayet, for whom nothing is impossible, made a reservation for my wife who came back beaming and gleaming.
And, when you leave, Hayet can also organise someone to take your luggage by trolley, or book a taxi.
Riad très agréable : la décoration est chic et sobre à la fois, un savant mélange de styles entre architecture contemporaine et design d'époque.
Le personnel est très accueillant, les repas sont succulents : à recommander vivement.
This is a lovely place to stay for a special treat - tucked behind a nondescript door this is a treasure of very high quality. The staff are very kind and friendly. The rooms are beautiful, with air conditioning if it's just too hot, the plunge pool and courtyard seating area are very enjoyable, and there's also a lovely rooftop terrace with sun loungers. The breakfast was delicious - fresh orange juice, fruit salad, yoghurt and pancakes. The location is very central, close to some interesting museums. Once you have mastered the short walk to the Jma el Fnaa you can't go wrong.
